John Steinbeck is one of my favoutite authors, and East Of Eden was one of his best...but the ones I like best was with Doc and the boys on Cannery Road.

I've read Cannery row & loved that too. Recently re read The grapes of wrath, & hope to re read East of Eden fairly soon.

I was devoted to Steinbeck's writing when I was a teenager (a million years ago) and along with the folk singing that arose from the American civil rights movement my politics were formed and haven't changed much.

Indeed - we had a teacher at high school who introduced us to his writing as well as others, & i've read most of his books. I wonder whether they still read his books in high schools these days.
