New school lunches don't give kids enough energy - Lilith7 - 31-03-2025

New school lunches fail nutritution standards &  give kids only half the energy they require.
"Given that 27% of children now live in homes where food runs out often or sometimes, the low energy content of meaks is especially worrying"

Dodgy Angry

Well given that most of the lunches get thrown out, those poor kids cant be too hungry and must be well fed at home or else they would be eating the whole thing.
The media are just clutching at straws at this point.

Show us where it says most are thrown out. The crack about the media just exposes your biases...

you seem to be missing the point.  The suppliers are contractually obliged to provide certain nutritional and energy requirements in the meals, and aren't...

Well, of course they aren't. Every household shopper knows providing lunches for less than $3 a portion is simply not possible unless you compromise quality and nutritional value. Doing it commercially, as a profit driven business, is even more difficult, as one supplier has already discovered.

Try buying a balanced lunch in a cafe for under ten dollars, let alone three...

Stupid boys.

Interesting that there's absolutely NO WAY in hell that even our idiot politicians could not know that - & yet, they try.  Dodgy

Which says everything about the type of people they are. Angry

My regular go to lunch is cheese and crackers with fruit. Even that would be hard pressed to come out under $3...

Mind you, the cheese might be plastic New World 1 kg Edam, but the crackers are top shelf.

Did you not watch the story on 1news where the kids were throwing them out in the bin and feeding them to the pigs?
If those kids were truly starving, they would be eating them up quite happily and asking for seconds.

Yeah but says who exactly? We are just hearing criticism from one so called expert on the TV, what studies and lab results show the daily intake from these meals?

RE: New school lunches don't give kids enough energy - Lilith7 - 02-04-2025

There's a simple way to fix it; supply exactly the same lunches to both schoolkids & all sitting MP's (compulsory apart from genuine food allergies) & we'll see what happens to the quaity of school lunches then...

I think the whole lunch program should be scrapped anyway, lots of kids get them that don't require it.
It's the parents responsibility to feed their kids anyway.
A better option would be to supply schools with food and let the kids make sandwiches as they please.
Some schools appeared to be doing something similar to this prior.

Close, but Ive never really had any desire for a partner. Perhaps that might change someday.
Many guys in the jehovah's witnesses are sexually oppressed, just take a look at pillowgate.
Perhaps that was part of my problem, but ironically they want all their followers to make babies to boost numbers, but many are waiting to have kids after Armageddon nowadays, they are going to be waiting until they are dead.

RE: New school lunches don't give kids enough energy - Oh_hunnihunni - 06-04-2025

I think there's way too much social focus on sexual identity, and no real acknowledgement of the way that single identity changes over a lifetime. We can be many, or just one, depends on so many things, a stable emotional connection to another being a major factor.

Some of us get that blessing, others never do. But judging someone, or ourself for that state of affairs is a waste of time.

We are more than our sexuality. And I say that as a long time solitary.

Edited to add - being a parent though, that changes us in ways we never could imagine.

Sounds like sexuality is considered a spectrum these days.
I've been questioning whether I'm Asexual, which turns out is now a letter of the rainbow flag these days.
I caught up with an old school friend recently and got talking about things, he said I could be demisexual.
I had to Google that to find out what that even meant.
I guess the only way to find out is to try out dating?
Nonetheless I feel content being single.
