Winnie threatens funding cuts for RNZ - Lilith7 - 23-04-2025

He's just about due to throw a massive wobbly, surely. Hopefully in time to prevent David Seymour becoming deputy PM.

Labour wants Luxon to step in...yeah, sure, that'll happen... Rolleyes Big Grin

He was being interviewed by RNZ about his comments wanting a law to define a man & a woman.

Perhaps he doesn't remember Georgina Beyer. Dodgy

It's interesting that the stupids seem to think that what makes a human male or female is mostly the shape of the atoms that go to make up their bodies (penis - vagina) when surely it is obvious that a human is mostly their mind and whether it is male or female in it's makeup which only the person concerned knows.

If you have a penis then you are male, vagina then female seems over-simplified to me.

So where does Klinefelter syndrome (XXY chromosome) fit into your logic? Or XYY for that matter?

RE: Winnie threatens funding cuts for RNZ - Lilith7 - 23-04-2025

While most are born either male or female, there are variations. People can be & are, born into a body which has for them, the wrong gender.
Remedying that with operations can make a massive difference to those people.

RE: Winnie threatens funding cuts for RNZ - Oh_hunnihunni - 23-04-2025

Genetics are incredible things, mama nature is always experimenting. I am a straight female, I do not feel threatened by any gender other than straight males, simply because life experience has taught me some of them are a threat. But gays? Trans? Middlesex? Nah...

I just wish they too like me, had the security, the confidence that comes from knowing who they were and who they were meant to be in our community. However that might express.

And idiot politicians, especially those less talented in the empathy department, perhaps even more threatened in their own gender identity, ought to stay out of the gender lives of others. Especially those they were elected to represent in our democracy.

There's an old thing on instagram, pointing out the songs out the 60s, 70s, and 80s... and the way some of the best of them celebrated the topsy turvy world of human sexuality. The Beatles, the Kinks, Queen...

I'm sure you sang along to many of them.

Gender identity variations have always been with us. And always a focus for bullies, and other small minded people, sadly. Nasty stuff.

I believe the point being made is that like a lot of things in life, it is not simply black and white -  there is a whole bunch of grey in between...

Why are you assuming that chromosomal abnormality results in 'trans'? And what percentage of the population are gender diverse in general for that matter?

RE: Winnie threatens funding cuts for RNZ - Lilith7 - 24-04-2025

According to the 2023 census, 0.7% of our population is trans gender.

Perhaps those who tend to be anti trans or gay pople might want to look at the contributions they've made to our society & the world, both historically & in present times.

And in other societies. Fa'afa ine & Fa' Afatama.

"In Samoan culture, "fa'afafine" refers to males assigned at birth who embody feminine characteristics, while "fa'afatama" refers to females assigned at birth who embody masculine characteristics. Both terms describe a recognized third and fourth gender identity, respectively, within Samoan society. These individuals often take on roles traditionally associated with the opposite gender and are well-respected in their communities. "

Does the proportion of the population really matter when the people we are talking about are human beings with the same needs and drives and rights and dreams as our own? It's just another way for weak people, insecure people, to plump themselves up by pretending they are better than people with a difference to themselves. Skin colour, intelligence, religion, genetics, values, height, disability, geographical location, eye shape, gender, age, hair colour, weight, accent - whatever!

But hey, it is so much easier than actually looking in a mirror, eh?

Speaking of insecure right wing men:

Independent journalist Vera Papisova dated right-wing men in New York for a magazine feature.

It all smacks of 'othering' a group of people simply because they happen to be different, & that's never going to be healthy in the long term.

I'm not sure I get your drift.   Who are these people?   Can you list some names?   Do you mean older women with lavender hair who attend lots of committee meetings and therefore carry agendas around?

Your earlier derogatory comments on Georgina Beyer would indicate that isn't the case.

Why? I get purple streaks sometimes when my coloured conditioner grabs in my white hair, and yes, I probably have an agenda - or rather, a wish list. I'd quite like a universal basic income to share the wealth and eliminate poverty based on a much fairer tax system, and I'd also like to see guaranteed affordable housing - we could do that too with a bit more effort and better budgeting. And I'd really like to see more colour and fun in our communities, it might reduce the widespread stress and mental health problems we have out there.

And if it wasn't for activism we wouldn't have things like DoC, and public health, and forty hour weeks, and holidays, and freedom from child labour. Parental leave is down to activists, better sports facilities and libraries came from activism. Charities. Our nuke free status...

Activists are people prepared to put their energy where their mouths are. I think we need more of them, not fewer. Of course, that doesn't include folk like the Destiny thugs, or the mass shooters, or suicide bombers, or the incel nutters. Or drunk drivers, drug users, or sexual predators. Or billionaires. Those activist types we can do without, I agree. I guess we each have a few favourites when it comes to social improvements, lol...  Big Grin

was born male

RE: Winnie threatens funding cuts for RNZ - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-04-2025

I was born with an appendix. And two bone hips. And brown hair. And smooth skin.

So what? Shit happens, but life is good.
