Tough times for most, but rich listers doing very nicely - Lilith7 - 09-06-2025

According to the National business review,we now have 18 billionaires - & our PM says 'that shoulld be celebrated'.

Ah yes, never mind the homeless people in ths streets, just step over them & look away. Dodgy Angry

Unbelievable, that any PM in these times could say:" Isn't it fantastic that we've got people with  ambition, aspiration & positivity & we should be celebrating success. I know how hard people work in NZ, & there are some pretty inspirational stories."  Dodgy

Oh really? How about the people - also hard workers who now have no job? How about the people - mostly women - who were in the process of attempting to get fair pay which your govt prevented so that you could balance your (clearly faulty) budget?

I'd imagine that most working people & people on benefirts might also have some 'inspirational stories' - granted, mostly about how to (more or less) survive on a shoe string, but inspirational all the same.
I wonder how many of those people are likely to vote for you delightful people next time round...?

Bottom feeders don't count...

I think billionaires should receive mental health treatment. Hoarding money is exactly the same as hoarding anything else. It's an illness.

And if we can cure them, then we should tax them to pay for the damage they cause.

Jealousy will get you nowhere

Except books, obviously...

Definitely agree; having far too much money is as bad for humans as is having too little.  And I've yet to understand just why anyone wants more money than they need.

Nah - fairly sure that the day any of us is 'jealous' of that lot has yet to dawn...

Yep, that would be their attitude in a nutshell.

I have been very well off, freehold property, good income, independent, all that stuff. And I have been at the other end, facing homelessness with serious health concerns and no support.

You know what's good about a small fixed guaranteed income, few assets, and a safe tenancy?

A lot fewer worries.

Everyone should have that security.   Tongue

That might not be a bad idea, it would make a massive difference to so many people. So much so that every govt around the world should set it up; the side effects just from that would surely be worthwhile. The crime rate would go down for starters, & probably more people might look at education of all kinds.

But if the crime rate drops, what will politicians use to frighten people?

That's a good point...stir up feeling against all foreigners perhaps...they'd find something.
