A friend who had a plumbing business in the LA area for over 20 years is under no doubt that the construction sector and horticultural harvesting and processing are heavily dominated by 'informal' employees and those workforces will stall if immigrant workers are removed. The situation is typical of many Western countries in that unskilled and menial jobs are shunned by home populations so immigrants fill those positions, often from former colonies of those countries e.g Indonesians in Holland, - Indians, Pakistanis and other Asians in the UK, - Turks in Germany, - Pacific Islands in NZ. Yes, I think the US is in for a shock once reality hits home. It could perhaps get really bad there but I hope they manage to come to their senses in time. We really are a strange species. |
