When political parties limit the ability to vote, they do it because they fear the choices of that demographic.
And so this lot jolly well should.

Traditionally prison time is viewed as 'time out', you don't get to participate in the society you have wronged for a while. Though it is probably more to do with it being too much hassle for the prison system to organise.
