Is housework 'real' work? - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-09-2025

A Spanish court has awarded a divorced wife backpay compensation and an ongoing pension for her housewifely contribution to the marriage after she was left without funds or assets by her marriage under a separation of property regime 25 years ago finally broke down.

Domestic labour as an economic contribution? Now there's a thought...  Big Grin

Nah - real work is only done by guys - usually really heavy stuff, like renting out houses, moving money around, and selling soap...

Of course it's real work.
If you hired a maid to do the same job you'd be paying them.

Well. Anyone who thinks it isn't real work should be compelled to do it. For a year.

Okay. So that means I should be paid for doing my laundry, and washing the dishes I ate from?

Right?

The dictionary definition of work:

Quote:work
noun
Physical or mental effort or activity directed toward the production or accomplishment of something.

The only way any work would not be considered real work, is if you're not actually doing it.

The question of being paid for it in any given situation, is another matter altogether.

In my view, the outcome from work done for oneself is the payment.

But if you're in a marriage and your partner is lazy and contributes nothing, while you do everything, I can see why someone may deserve monetary recompense for such work.

I feel that way about building my home. It is an extension of myself. But ovens, especially cheap thin skinned busted thermostat beasts, they are inventions of the devil. And supplied by the meanest of landlords. So they get zero respect seeing as soon as a third element goes I know they'll simply swap it out for another one, and we start all over again...
