Simeon Brown accuses Drs of 'crossing an ethical line' - Lilith7 - 16-10-2025

Really Simeon, an 'ethical line?'

And what about your own ethics; y'know, stopping pay equity, unleashing possible havoc on the environment, running down our health system to the extent that nurses beetle off eleswhere in order to be able to survive while working?

What IS 'hurting patients' is the deliberate lack of funding - is that not also a lack of ethics? Dodgy Angry

Seeing nurses are still waiting to receive their last pay raise, I cannot blame them for not trusting this government.

Typically around $55K, dependent on region, OT and placement. Piss poor for a high stress skilled profession with antisocial OT demands.

My step son's partner is a nurse with close to 5 years experience who is working outside of the public health system because better pay and hours. That approach by many nurses is the prime reason public hospitals are struggling to attract and keep staff.

My sister is a nurse with a degree and close to 50 years experience working in an Auckland hospital in a specialist day clinic role. She is very scathing of the state of the health system, low pay rates and work difficulties caused by communication with immigrant nurses whose English is poor. A couple of years away from retirement and looking forward to it but feels for the workmates who will be responsible once she's gone.

Insufficient.

I have a friend who was a theatre nurse, here and in London. I asked her if she would ever consider going back, but she says she makes more money with her team of domestic cleaners than she would on a senior nurses salary.

And it's a lot less stressful.

I have recently seen both sides of the medical system. I had surgery in Braemar Hospital, what a great place, well equipped, nice rooms, fantastic nurses and of course the best doctors. I woke up...and then as a public patient, I was transferred across the road to Waikato hospital, during the nurses strike. Oh boy, literally a rude awakening, I can't complain of course, I am very grateful for this whole experience, but the Waikato Hospital is a factory, with factory workers pumping out products as fast as they can.
