RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 22-10-2022

Good morning.

Lovely day in store, after a cool start.

I did wonder at first where I was in here! Lol, I've "personalised" my page by making the header green  Big Grin

Love asparagus ... will include in diet as long as the price is ok.

No plan for the day but expect to see family at some stage. Time will be spent in the garden.

I've finished knitting a wee ghost (with a ball and chain) and a witch. I have her broom to do plus a pumpkin. Need to sew them up. Can't say I'm into Halloween myself, lol. Before we know it,  fireworks will be disturbing the peace again!

Cuppa finished,  time for dog walk.

Enjoy the day all.

Morning everyone

They all enjoyed the treats I took in.. It was funny tho cos a bloke that was visiting Jean took her in some asparagus rolls too lol.. She will be going well today lol.. Its was like a little party and we all enjoyed it.

Music was a little pathetic tho, and they only sang for an hour so I think they were over it too.

Got there to discover Colleen had a massive Black eye, she fell beside the bed and hit her face on the bedside cabinet. It must have hurt and will hurt for a while Im sure. So it was show and tell with my massive one I found too.

MrP said last night he was still soo full.. It was the most I had seen him eat in ages.

It was soo funny Irenes Daughter Dianne said to me that my face looks way different now.. and we realized it was the first time she has ever seen me without a mask lol. I found out Irene loves Lemon meringue Pie so I will make one for her when I do a Christmas cake and fruit mince pies for them. Havent made one for ages but I like Jo Saegers Mile High Lemon Meringue pie recipe.

Needless to say it had been a long day and my pain was massive. But as I said to Jean who said to me you love doing this dont you, I said yes it makes me Happy when I can make food for people... it was worth every bit of pain.

It was soo nice when MrP joined the ladies in the dining room. Ive told him they dont bite lol

A quiet one here although if the pills work I might move MrPs bed into the spare room. At least his mattress is really light and not going to attack me lol.

Have a fab day everyone

Madame Le Dog isn't speaking to me.

The mean evil (& cruel) human gave her a bath first thing this morning.
And apparently, taking her for a walk to dry off doesn't make any difference, even if she did find some especially interesting scents along the way. I expect she'll come round near her tea time.
Hoping to get more weeding done later in the day, its still a little cold but warming up sop might manage it.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 22-10-2022

We're back from the hospital appointment and boy the traffic! At least it's flowing freely and everyone seemed to be behaving.

I've burnt all the paper rubbish and some garden waste. When it is cool enough, I'll shovel it into the compost bin.

The chap who bought the garden ornament the other day will be here this afternoon. He's on his way back from Palmerston North. A very long trip for him.

Lunch is calling, we were given some honey by a bee keeper (now retired) and I fancy honey on toast. Not the healthiest but the bread is wholegrain and that has to count for something Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 22-10-2022

Honey is extremely healthy for us. Antibacterial, immune system strengthening, contains all kinds of good minerals - we should eat it regularly.

Especially on crumpets every long weekend breakfast, in bed...

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 22-10-2022

Exactly OHH. I miss the days I was given large quantities of it.  Used it instead of sugar in recipes. Enjoy your honey on toast KM  Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 22-10-2022

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 23-10-2022

morning ladies Smile Another gorgeous day coming up! No traffic this morning, I guess everyone is where they want to be for the long weekend.

There is one last small garden to weed. It has cooch/twitch in it and a real PITA to weed. And I still need to move those couple of plants that aren't doing so well and a couple of roses that need tying back. I've covered the polyanthus the rabbits have found to be delicious and hopefully they can recover now. I suspect MrK may want the cover for his bok choy seedlings though. An easy day really, I look forward to many more like this now the worst is over.

I plan to work on the kotare/kingfisher and hopefully can start on the second wing. Trouble is, I start it and two or three hours later...oopps lol

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 23-10-2022

Good morning.

Another sunny day ahead. Might plan a walk elsewhere while the roads are quietish. Always 'stuff' to do in the garden if at a loose end!

Dogsat last afternoon/evening while her 'parents' went out while they can before baby arrives. It's nice to be able to spend time outside now the days are longer. Only problem being, no bird is allowed within cooee of said dog's space, so plenty of energy used running up and down the lawn. Lucky for the birds our place normally easy to visit with elderly 4 legged (and 3 legged) occupants!

Cuppa finished,  better get 1st of several loads of washing out.

Enjoy the day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 23-10-2022

Morning all
Overcast today

We had a lovely time with friends who came to dinner last night. Good conversation and the wine was pretty good too.

Just need to empty the dishwasher and hand wash the wine glasses and the decks will be cleared. Will be doing more quilting today some time was spent frog stitching yesterday let's hope there is none of that today..

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-10-2022

Morning everyone

Looks like we have another stunner of a day ahead too.

As typical for me I did too much yesterday. And Im still suffering for it. Can't wear the strapping now it annoys the hand sized bruise on the same leg.

At least MrP's bed didn't attack me like the other one did lol. And its heaps lighter lol.

I plan on emptying some drawers today. Not moving them just emptying them into a couple of crates. (Fabric) and then I can get rid of the drawers. I'll have 3 bedside tables and a low boy and dressing table by the time I finish. And drawers always go around here. Cheap and easy to get rid of. I just dont need to keep the rooms full with furniture I won't be able to move in the future. And none of them are new.

I must look for a white zip too. I found 9 crochet squares the other day and I joined them up for a cushion. Just need to find a zip and Ill put a fabric back on it. Someone might like it for a Christmas present.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 23-10-2022

It is going to be a stunner I think...

Spent an hour or so yesterday with my ailing friend who tells me she is getting to the point where a rest home would be her best bet so she has applied for assessment to begin the process. She is letting me know because as her executor I will be sorting out her flat and doing all those final things for her, easier though popeye, than your tasks, because she has been easing into it for sometime. That is the benefit of a terminal diagnosis, having that advance warning so we can stop frittering and get serious about needs and wants. With that in mind her initial plan was to donate everything, but as I pointed out with a bit of time and good luck I will be able to get her a bit extra for her personal savings if we try a few TM listings first, so she has agreed to that.

She is the second friend I have watched go through this process, and I have learned such a lot from both of these ladies. No doom and gloom, just a quiet acceptance and a determination - different in each case - to make good decisions that suit themselves and those around them. I hope when my turn comes I have that same courage. Interesting though those differences. Ali had husband and family close by, but really had to manage them as well as herself, their grief putting an unimaginable stress on her, whilst Jean has a distant uninvolved daughter and a few not too close friends, so she is free to focus on her own needs and not worry about how others respond. Sometimes being a solitary has distinct benefits...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 23-10-2022

That's got to be hard for you though, Hunni - regardless of how well your friend copes with it.

Must have overdone it a bit yesterday in finally finishing weeding the biggest garden as my back isn't friends with me this morning. Very annoying as I'd intended digging in some compost today, but perhaps later. On the bright side I found three garlic plants among the weeds so moved them along & will plant cauli next to them, with perhaps a few more cloves on the other side.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 23-10-2022

It's a different journey for each of us, OHH Heart I hope I also have the courage to face this sort of thing if a terminal illness ever happens to me. Mum was terrified which added to our grief but somehow, we all muddled through. Hospice was amazing and is our most supported charity.

The small garden is weeded, and I noticed some of the dahlias are sprouting. Big Grin Five azalea plants have been transplanted into a better spot and two big clumps of hellebores moved to make way for the azaleas. And MrK has the first of three wires up along the mended fence to support the roses. I think this may be the last 'big' thing he does for me in the garden as he is having trouble with fiddly stuff. Thank goodness for traffic noise lol as the air was pretty blue.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 23-10-2022

Such a hard thing to do OHH.. but knowing you are doing it with love and making things easier for friends is what will bring you peace too.

I am lucky that I am pretty much pleasing myself. To avoid arguments I dont tell MrP everything I am doing. he doesn't know he no longer has a bedroom here. There is a room with some of his stuff in. But that's it. And he doesn't pay the rent I do lol

Ive got the fabric drawers emptied and taken photos will put on FB shortly. They should go very quickly.

I know what you mean Kiwimade , in knowing that the last job has or is happening. But Im also thankful for MrP teaching me how to be independent too.

We talked for 40 minutes this morning. No tense stuff either so it was a pleasure. I never know what it will be like but getting used to not letting it get me down.

Ive noticed one of the houses over the back has stripped and replanted their little raised garden. They had plenty from their little patch too.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 23-10-2022

Must be catching! I am rearranging my deck plantings. I have one of those wrought iron corner shelving things which I have opened out and placed against the railing as a wind break privacy barrier. It had succulent pots tied to it, but I realised it could support the iron window box baskets I also have, and once planted up could be even more effective for privacy from all my neighbours decks. So that's today's job, making little wire fastenings to fix the baskets in place, then I can think about the plantings., and choose between edibles or pretties. Or both!

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 23-10-2022

I think there may be a few people either starting or extending veg gardens this year, in view of the rising prices. I suppose too, some could grow quite a bit in big pots if they haven't much room.
I managed to dig in some compost after all & as its supposed to rain tomorrow that should help to some extent.

RE: You can never have enough... - Venetian1 - 23-10-2022

OHH - must be hard for your friend but as you say she is making her own decisions which will make the process a bit easier. I really feel for those who, for whatever reasons, aren’t given the chance to decide such a huge change in their life, makes it so much harder for them.  Great that you are there to support your friend.

Yes Lilith home gardening seems to be more popular again. Apart from the cost of growing your own veg. I find there is so much satisfaction seeing things I’ve planted growing and especially being able to have really fresh produce - maybe not the associated slugs though  Big Grin

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 24-10-2022

morning ladies Smile Another gorgeous day today with rain on the way tomorrow.

Popeye, Dad and MrK have both taught me 'survival' skills lol, how to change a tyre, fix a fuse and so on. But there are things MrK prefers to do while he can. He feels useless at times with his hands and doing things like putting the wire up makes him feel useful again. And he's also very possessive of his tools lol.

Great find with the garlic, Lilith Smile Friends have grown cauli but left it to go to seed and it ended up being fed to their steer. We couldn't believe it, all we could think of was a family who could have eaten it. I think you are right, there are more people growing their own veg. It makes sense when trying to reign in the budget.

Today will be a cruisey day for me, I think. I have some baking and ironing to do and then I'll spend some time on my kotare/kingfisher. Might even take it outside and do it in the sun. The light will be perfect.

Happy crafting Smile
