RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-02-2023 I signed up for a Wonky Box delivery this morning, in view of the weather. Be interesting to see what is in my veg and fruit box when it is delivered on Thursday. Seemed sensible to check it out and see if it is worth making it a regular thing seeing I eat a lot of fresh food and support the idea of 'rescued produce from local growers'. Just so long as it isn't filled with the leafies I grow in my own patch and pots! Can't see me going food shopping for a few days yet with what is going on outside my door... RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-02-2023 Morning everyone We are once again in a national State of Emergency. I have never shopped online but with a combination of free delivery and barely being able to walk I will do an order shortly. My thoughts to everyone with life, property damage and loss.. What a mess. I remember cyclone Bola, we lived on Ex Deputy Auckland Mayor Bill Cashmore's farm at the time. We couldn't get to town etc for days, and of course the water needed power. but thankfully the water tank was up high so gravity worked. Plus there was a good stream with beautiful water in it. Glad you found the cover etc OHH. There's quite a trickle coming down the back hill but it drops into the gully track within a meter of the fence. Just got a reminder for my smear.. Im like Nah not going there while the rest of the country is a mess. good enough excuse for me. I think my head needs to be in a better place for that. Stay safe and warm everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-02-2023 (14-02-2023, 08:45 AM)popeye333 Wrote: Morning everyone We lived in Taupo during Bola. Coming through the forests afterwards was an education... All I saw were the broken trunks. They couldn't believe how bad it was. Shopping online was horrendous, nothing could be delivered for days so I braved it and went down. No cat litter of course. Rang MrP to say I was going down, he had a hissy cos I wasnt going up there. His words when I called to say i got home was Is the Car ok?. I told him it was fine, dont worry about me, Im mentally unwell but dont let that Bother him, he said he had to go they were eating in the dining room... So I dont matter unless its to deliver him goodies and the safety of the car is more important. Im signing off after checking the local stuff. Just cant deal with it all RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 14-02-2023 Hope all up north are not having things too bad, despite the wild weather as shown on the news; going through horrible natural events aren't much fun. Heavy rain predicted for us today so made sure to be booted & raincoated before venturing out to do dreaded groceries, & it did rain very slightly just as I arrived so covered bike seat & headed in to brave the supermarket. Yay. More price rises, yet despite very close checking nothing apparently, is plated with gold. Even the lovely checkout woman said its too much these days. Damned if I know how people with kids are managing, it must be even harder now than it was years ago. Came out - no rain, the ground almost dry & the sun proceeded to come out & get almost hot again so biking back in boots & raincoat must have looked interesting. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-02-2023 We've been dry all day, I even have the washing out! I went supermarketing today, New World's eggs $20 for a tray of 20. Our local vegie place, a tray of 30, $17.99. The Furry One thinks I'm extra special as I found his smackos treats today This afternoon I dropped some bits and bobs off to the op shop and they were trying to work out what to do with a huge pile of embroidery threads. I bought them for $5 (they wanted $4) and there were 110 bobbins wound with DMC thread. Couldn't believe my luck, this sort of thing happens to others, not me I'll post a pic when I've uploaded it. I also called into Spotlight and they have dress lace for $35 a meter so I think I'll price the lace fabric I have at around $20 per meter and sell it as a bulk lot. Hopefully someone will fall in love with it and buy it. Stay safe RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-02-2023 morning ladies We can quite literally see the end of Cyclone Gabrielle. She's tucked in along the Kaimai Ranges and the very end of it looks like it is over Te Aroha. It's still windy though. Our son text me last evening to check we had power. He had been keeping an eye on us from a far lol. One of the small perks of having a son work for a power company. He could see we did but still wanted to check. Today I take our friend to Waikato Hospital for a small procedure so that's pretty much my day. I measured the lace fabric last evening and there is 2.5m of useable, uncut lace, 1.5 meters still attached to the lace but has been cut and a square just over half a meter still attached to the end of it all. So, a pretty hefty amount of dress lace that someone may have a use for. The garden seems to have survived the wind. 'Planting' those old fence posts to tie the dahlias and taller plants too has paid off. They rattle around in the wind but are still standing. We found what caused the loud bang in the middle of the night. It was a massive branch falling off the willow tree on the farm across the road. The tree looks very lopsided now and luckily the cows were in another paddock for the night as they had been grazing there during the day. Take care, there is still a bit of sting in Gabrielle's tail for some of us. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 15-02-2023 Good morning. We have sunshine! It blew quite strongly all night but it has mostly gone this morning. Now for the drying out everywhere else. The devastation is massive and it is hard to imagine having to deal with the aftermath for so many If we think food prices are high currently there's only one way for them to go after the cyclone! Follow up dentist today and will do a few jobs while out. Catch up day at home after an unplanned afternoon gc minding yesterday. Some more craft time later. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 15-02-2023 Morning everyone What a wild old time. Its sunny and calm here. I've decided to allow myself a teenage tantrum. Mr.P didn't like the fact that I wasn't going up yesterday after I went to the supermarket. I rang and let him know I got home safe and his concerns were for the car and Missy. Not once has he asked how I am. So I didn't ring him last night and wont today either. Yes petty and sinking to his level. But if he doesn't care then he doesn't need to talk to me. Glad everyone is ok. The corner of the fence section on our shared driveway fell down. I thought I heard something crash. Its propped up but I guess they will be checking the rest, or at least hope they do. Not going to drive the "Precious" car down in case it gets hit.. Thats my reply if he bothers to ask why Im not going up. He will have to get them to ring me. Good haul Kiwimade.. These things are happening cos you always help others too. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 15-02-2023 Morning all Damp and a bit of a breeze here. Not a tantrum Popeye its preserving your mental health which is your first priority. So give yourself a hug and have a comfy day at home. Bought wrong body wash scented argh...! Couldn't wash it off so I have itchy eyes and tingling tongue and lips going to be a great day. Did quick shop this morning for fruit and milk lots of empty shelves Whipped up a couple cot quilt tops yesterday so the plan is to sandwich them today and set up to quilt them. Hope everyone is keeping safe RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 15-02-2023 That seems fair enough Popeye, take a day off now & then. Wet all day here so no chance to do anything outside so did a bit of baking instead & a bit of painting & reading. Youngest grandson called in to drop off petrol for the mower so got him to look at a painting I did a while back, to see if he could spot all the 'hidden' things I'd put in - not so much hidden as not immediately obvious - it took him a while, & he missed one altogether so quite pleased. He's going to do another thing at Uni this year 6 months & then decide on whether or not to do another year. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 15-02-2023 We just had a big earth fart aka earthquake a 6 real,y upset the male k9s. So much for a quiet night RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-02-2023 Our daughter in Whanganui phoned and told us they had just had the quake! 6.1M It's never ending, isn't it. RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 15-02-2023 Son's partner has 2 sisters in Wgn ... got a big fright! What next! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-02-2023 morning ladies It's calm here with fog so far. Another death with more to come, this cyclone is devastating in more ways than one. I'm hoping with everything crossed that JanW, Venetian and Sunflowers (who doesn't post here) are OK. Not sure what we are up to today, but I know we won't be going far. Might spend some time working on the embroidery for the four corners of the quilt I have planned. But the lawn needs mowing, and the recycling needs to be taken to the transfer station. Always something to do. Trivial compared to what's happening around the country. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 16-02-2023 Morning everyone Thats a big shake thats for sure.. Hope only property is damaged not people. Hope all our East coast people are ok. I've been ok until I saw people crying and that set me off. I knew it would come. Makes my troubles seen trivial but it's just how life is for me I guess. The odd thing, my life changed Just after Bola. And it's going to change again after Gabrielle. Thats more than enough for me. I dont know how MrP is. Im sure he will be fine and not thinking of me, but being annoyed cos I haven't called. but Until I rate higher than the Car or Missy it will remain that way. I have to go do my bloods this morning and get a couple of things at the supermarket. I'll wait till the school craziness is over first tho. The Med Center is opposite the college and just around the corner from the supermarket. I noticed yesterday that the weed spraying was successful. First time I have done it. I hate yellow edges but it will make the lawn an easier job to do. Especially with the dammed Kikuyu grass. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 16-02-2023 Good morning. Calm and overcast so far. The devastation we are seeing and reading about is immense, with deaths and people unaccounted for adding a whole new dimension. Extended family have heard nothing from family in Wairoa yet due to no communication. So worrying. All the best to those who post in here. A few jobs to do out, some more photo sorting for my mum's memorial next month and maybe time for craft later. Have a good day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-02-2023 (16-02-2023, 07:01 AM)Roma Wrote: Good morning. Yup, I'm doing a quiet worry about some lovely cousins I have in Wairoa too. I'm sure they are fine, but they have a huge extended family down there so who knows what they are enduring. It does drive home just how lucky those of us unaffected really are. Library today, and a drop off to the op shop. I am doing another declutter... RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 16-02-2023 Morning all Wet and windy cool day Volunteer day today, hope to get some quilting done this afternoon, nothing done yesterday DD and DGD1 turned up K9s not even asking for a walk so DH off the hook Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 16-02-2023 I think recovery from the mess the cyclone's left us with will take far longer to repair than is understood yet, & is likely to be a very lengthy process with lots of frustration for all. It may even be that checks on land quality may mean that, for some it may be unsafe to rebuild where they were. It might perhaps mean that some areas may be left much as they are if that's the case & if so then that's likely to be very difficult for most to come to terms with. I hope its all cleared up & sorted with a minimum of that, & as many as possible can remain where they were. And that the insurance companies don't behave badly towards anyone. It started out rainy & overcast & has now come out sunny so managed a bit outside. The tradies working in our street somehow managed to park one of their vans in front of my green bin yesterday, didn't realise until it was too late dammit. |
