RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 05-03-2023

Cloudy day today but the thunderstorms and rain didn’t arrive so that’s a bonus
Thinking about towels - can remember attending Dramorne parties and buying probably very expensive linen for my glory box - I still have one tartan towel must be 50 years old and been to Ozzie and back .We lost a great big box of linen when we returned home lucky it wasn’t in that box
Yes Popeye people used to be able to use the slash - the kids rugby club rooms were built with fundraising selling firewood back in the day .My son has the capacity to process as much as they send them he chomps it all up and sends it out by the truckload to people with horse stables and garden centres - he also shaves the rubbish wood that isn’t any good for structural timber thin and it is used for wine boxes or cheese boxes - it’s really trendy at the moment for gift baskets - the boxes don’t have to last - there are a lot of small industries who have set up to use it - he can’t keep them supplied - the greedy overseas owners are going to have to bring the slash down off the hill sides and sell it for processing - we used to import wine and cheese boxes
I haven’t started my car for a while - fingers crossed it goes - the spiders have taken liberties again and the back looks live a bridal veil -have some spray but really don’t like killing them .Birds are still not back in the reserve hope they didn’t all perish

Tipping down here - we went for an early & very short walk down past Grumpy Dog's house since we know he's not daft enough to be outside when it rains so Madame Le Dog enjoyed some new stuff to snuffle at, if not the actual rain.
Well, at least the road works finished when they said they would.

Very cute.. and Im sure his owner will be chuffed to have it back Jan.

Done all the planned jobs, haven't taken the rubbish down to the road yet. Might pop it into the car and leave down there, and go and get some fish and chips for tea.  Craving fish again.

Found the last of the missing Christmas dinners so now I have 26 meals put away for later.

It's such a pleasure to be talking to MrP in a good mood and he's always telling me to be careful and rest, which is a nice change.

So I've taken photos of some of my annuals and Im going to put them in some retro groups on FB and then on trade Me in a few days if they dont sell. I have quite a few and just want them moved on to someone who collects them.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 05-03-2023

I agree Popeye let your albums go to somebody who collects them if you feel comfortable with that - we have just lost so much of Mums craft stuff and patterns etc that should have gone to collectors - my sister had it all in plastic bins that all went - collectors would have loved the old patterns etc - to be honest none of the grandchildren live lives that include any clutter .Ne box had two of those twin dolls and all their costumes she had knitted them and all the magazines the patterns were printed in - can’t think of the name of the little magazine - I have contacted a lady about a box of vintage braids and ribbons I have of Mums - we are just trying to organise getting them to her - she dresses antique dolls so it’s better people see them than they sit in a box in my craft room .There are some things though I just can’t let go of like my fathers first cash book when he started his trucking business and how many times he wrote he had been paid with half a side of mutton or a box of preserves -

Social history Jan, offer them to your local or the national museums or libraries...

morning ladies Smile It looks like a mixed bag kind of day today.

Not sure what we are going to do today but I'm having a day off from the garden Smile I am still deciding what to stitch next. I need some inspiration lol.

The other evening we had the most amazing sunset and to top it off, a rainbow appeared. It was like colour on top of more colour. We are so lucky to live rurally and get to see this stuff.

I might see if MrK wants to get out and about today and we take the cameras. I might find something that sparks the creative juices. Even if he doesn't want to come with me, I think I'll still go.

happy crafting Smile

Other than scheming, the most creative thing I did this weekend was to slop timber sealer stain over an ancient coffee table to make a resting place for mugs and wine glasses for the bench in our courtyard. I just need to refurb the table top now and it will pass inspection, so long as no one looks closely.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 06-03-2023

Morning everyone

Looks clear so far, but I think we are getting rain later.

I learnt last night that Id totally overdone things. And that was after a lazy afternoon. I am proud that I got to the end of the drive for the rubbish tho. Handy being able to sit it on the walker and go down with support. But on return the B**** door opener wouldn't work again.

So I sent an email telling them they need to have someone to check it over. Its a part of the reasons why we got this house. And they can damwell make it work properly. And I want it done before my surgery thats for sure.

Had a very upsetting call with MrP last night. Ken the younger guy across from him had been having a bad dream and woke up very upset, he swiped everything off his table and was crying. MrP seems to think he is in his 20s Id say older than that tho. But he had a massive stroke and cant use his right side I think it is and not terribly strong in the left either. MrP called out and asked did he need help, I said to him, go over and talk to him. Man to Man and just keep him company for a while. I got off the phone and bawled, as I am now.
I would be lining up for euthanasia in Kens case, I would never want to live like that. His wife visits twice a week, I dont know her circumstances, and maybe thats all she can do but it feels minimal to say the least. Just so sad.

Im off to see MrP and then the Girls afterwards, so other than the walking it will be a quiet rest time. Bobbie is wrapped I managed to get her her lip balm, I am too cos I always use more in the winter than summer.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 06-03-2023

Good morning.

Very wet underfoot after torrential rain, thunder and lightning overnight.  Almost 100 mm! Some people who put their bins out last night have strewn rubbish to pick up after the bins were swept over in the running water! At least, I hope it gets picked up.

Busy over the weekend with family. Son and his little family have sold their home and moving down country where his job is based.  He has been working from home since Covid. They will be missed,  we'll just have to make the effort to visit!

I have 3yo GD here today,  both of us nursing colds, mine more recent so don't intend to overexert myself!

My cross stitch is more than half way completed ... I hope to get it done before 3 mo baby moves away with her parents.

Time to move.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 06-03-2023

Have a good day

This made me smile hope you all enjoy it too - the little girl whose toys they are was told by her Mum when they thought they may have to evacuate to put her favourite toys in one bag - unfortunately when they left they couldn’t take anything as the water rose so suddenly - thankfully the man who found them washed and dried them and the little girl has her favourite toys back - fantastic - still can remember when I was a little girl loving a rubber doll whose face had perished - she went everywhere with me -unfortunately she grew some sort of ugly mould which my mother blamed for giving me polio so she was buried and replaced with a Pedigree walkie talkie which I swapped with a girl down the road for a plastic head band - my mother was not amused

What a kind thing to do for that child, & she's likely to remember that all her life. Smile

There really are still Wonderful people in the world.

And Lilith I agree , she will hopefully remember this for the rest of her life.

Had a ward of grumpy men this morning, Ken vacated and went to the lounge, he wants to go to the Gold coast to see his mates.
MrP was snappy in general, but not really at me
Ralph looked like they had all been out partying all night and was even a little short with his Niece.

On the other hand the Ladies were wonderful and I was so pleased to catch up with them all. Although Irene was very tired, so I told her she must have been at the same party with the blokes.. she giggled at at. Nearly 97 is a little old for partying she reckons.
Bobbie was very pleased with her lip Balm.. And colleen was in a cheeky funny mood.

The staff were good and leaving us to it. We were talking about cats and dogs mainly then on our way out a guy came in with the wee puppy in his hands, Get this a Border collie crossed with a brindle Pitbull. Very sweet face, and its like it has an undercoat of the brindle , otherwise very collie like.

Came home and mowed the back part of the lawn. Only took 30 minutes cos it was fairly short, but I wanted to get it done before it rained, and before the fence comes down. I dont want to mow with an audience.

Bobbie said she would come home and look after me, but she cant cook lol.. Finally she admitted that lol. She still desperately wants to leave poor thing

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 07-03-2023

morning ladies Smile Lots of rain overnight so no need to water the garden Big Grin

That's a lovely story, Jan Heart There are some great people out there, that's for sure.

Yesterday we were at Mt Maunganui enjoying the beach. The surfers were out but the tide was pretty erratic. You get one great set of waves after another, then nothing. The water is lovely and warm Tongue

My sister-in-law bought one of those phones that fold in half, so I scored her old (one year old) phone and MrK is going to have my old smart phone. He's finally given in and decided to use a smart phone. We tend to recycle phones throughout our family lol. Last evening I switched my phone over to the 'new' phone and I will do MrK's today. I just need to be with my sister-in-law when I sort the security out as I can't delete her e mail without an e mail being sent to her with a code. I did a complete factory reset but even that didn't delete it.

happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 07-03-2023

Morning everyone

A very clear sky here. A degree or two cooler too.

Not a lot on my agenda today, I have washing on, and will need to pop up to New World but that will be about it.

MrP was still snappy last night. He leant over to pick something up and got stuck, and a nurse had to get the lifter to pick him up, but kept saying he had fallen. I said Just ignore it, it doesn't matter. She rang as they have to do and I said to her that he hadn't fallen but did need the help. She said he's not pleased with me, I said I not to worry he had been snappy all day lol.

Sad that Georgina Bayer passed away yesterday, she really was an inspiration. And Im sure long remembered too. We have some pretty strong women in our country that's for sure.

Have a fab day everyone

I was also sorry to hear that Georgina Beyer had died; she certainly managed to pack a huge amount into one life & wasn't lacking guts.

Did dreaded groceries this morning, took Madame Le Dog for an early walk & still had some energy so decided to head over to Northlands mall to get body shop lip balm & wandered into pak n save while I was over that way. Found some vegan pies so got one to try out tonight since I'm now too knackered to cook. Should be interesting.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-03-2023

morning ladies Smile It must be autum, the mornings are quite chilly now. At least yesterday afternoon felt like summer!

Yesterday I caught up with a friend for lunch, but our favourite cafe had closed due to not enough workers Sad We found another lovely cafe to eat at but not far from it was another closed cafe, closed for the same reason. My friend has asked MrK to make two jewelry boxes like mine so he will be kept busy soon. He has an old mahogany bed headboard being recycled and plans to make them out of that. It's a gorgeous timber with a lovely grain and colour.

MrK has 'closed' the compost bins so he can empty one and turn the other into the empty bin. Just in time too as we have used all the useable compost. I can't start pruning until I have somewhere to put the prunings. It's a tad early anyway as the dahlias have finally come into their own.

Not sure what plans we have for the day, it might just be a pottering about type of day. Tomorrow will be busy as I will at Waikato Hospital for most of it with our elderly friend. I might even find something to stitch for while I wait for him.

Happy crafting Smile
