RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-03-2023 If you could just pop round here afterwards km, I noticed a few annoying fly marks on my pristine ceiling a while back and the ratbag things have not faded since. I think it would be wise of this shortarse to stay off the second level of the stepladder in view of the wobblies I seem to have developed lately! Funny how the little things we cannot do any longer seem to outweigh the much bigger things in importance. I am pleased though by my progress in restoring deck and garden storage area to rights. And it seems to be contagious with one of my nicer but messier neighbours deciding to attack hers too. It might be the cooler clear days, it does make lugging things around a whole lot easier! I have built a wee flatpack plant storage rack thing under one of the deck windows in the hope her feline self will adopt it as a winter route in and out on demand. She ventured out the window for the first time yesterday but bypassed the new construction and leapt straight off the sill to the deck, then refused to climb the 'steps' so creatively and thoughtfully placed for her comfort preferring to stand at the door and loudly demand re entry. Bloody cats. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 25-03-2023 Morning all Wild wind here Just wrote up post and managed to delete it grr... Quiet day yesterday did food hunt, and tidied up my patterns tracing and drafting creates a bit of bulk to store I need a serious cull but that an wait for a cold rainy day. Just having a sit down after cleaning up kitchen and vacuuming next job k9 walks we will get blown away. Agree KM nippy I notice that the downstairs heat source is coming on only know because cat is using her nest next to it No real plans for today other than help DH move melamine shelving to DD house. Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 25-03-2023 Morning everyone Another Stunning Day here. Lol OHH yep Heparin is good but not the serious Bruising that can come with it. Mind you that only happens if you dont do it properly lol. OHH if you have any baby wipes or any other wipes, tie them around your mop or broom they are apparently good for getting fly pooh off ceilings. I did a lot of photos yesterday, so will be listing things today on FB and TM. I've got the bug now which is a good thing. NOTE TO SELF... Stop having Men visit while hubby is away. 3-36 am this morning one of the new in October smoke alarms went off in my bedroom.. Deconstructed myself off the chair, took the fly swat and fanned it off.... Back to Bed, back to alarm, Back to bed, Back to alarm.. Rang 111 2 burley guys in Uniform arrived, checked everything out, but also said they had never seen those particular types of smoke alarms. They called in a third, cos he has a few inches on him, that they didn't and they took both down. Told me to contact the property manager and get a more normal type in.... Yes they work but there wasn't any smoke or fire to be found. One must stop having all these men around.. and at 3-36am is looking a bit shady lol. Woke up with Missy in my arms, the temp is dropping. Ill swap the towel out for a blanket today. While I love the cold, I think I'll notice it even more this winter, I usually only use the heater for Missy not me. She doesn't do going under blankets unless I manage to just drape one over her butt. Have a fab day everyone. NZ vs Sri Lanka later on Duke.. Woohoo its years since I saw a full one day cricket match RE: You can never have enough... - zqwerty - 25-03-2023 In my experience with battery powered fire alarms it is the battery going flat that is the problem, is it peeping or going off with full blown alarm? The colder weather always brings a spate of on the verge flat battery alarms in household battery powered fire/smoke alarms. The sealed ones which are supposed to last for three years or more often exhibit this behaviour. The whole unit has to be replaced as the batteries are not able to be replaced in the sealed units. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-03-2023 Ahhh but those weird smoke alarm events are a blessing in disguise. Some of us get a visit from the local firemen when that happens, so it is worth the irritant value! Cool weather and batteries though is a damned nuisance. My scoot is especially sensitive to that issue. And thanks popeye, what a good idea. And I have a new pack of Tuffy wipes on the shopping list, I shall dedicate a few to my ceiling and feel deeply satisfied by the restoration of the white expanse, lol.. The colder weather always brings a spate of on the verge flat battery alarms in household battery powered fire/smoke alarms. These were only put up in October... and it was full blown alarm not the annoying beeping when going flat. Thats why I rang the fire dept. otherwise id have just shut the door and left it to itself (25-03-2023, 10:14 AM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: Ahhh but those weird smoke alarm events are a blessing in disguise. Your Welcome OHH. Could barely see the faces this morning and they had their full gear ion.. Unlike the one that came and checked the alarms in October, but his opinion wasnt "Approved of" by the property manager she got a company in. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-03-2023 Our LL tells us to call them about alarm issues, but if we do they take weeks to deal with it. So the local volunteer firies just let us call them and they show up within hours depending on workload. Lovely guys... RE: You can never have enough... - Praktica - 25-03-2023 One thing to watch out for with smoke alarms, is an expiry date on the alarm itself. I noticed this on ours, when I was checking the batteries, and found that both were past their expiry - I had to replace them. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-03-2023 See, if you were ancient and decrepit you too could get this service with a smile! RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 25-03-2023 (25-03-2023, 01:25 PM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: See, if you were ancient and decrepit you too could get this service with a smile! Ah, but wait till they hear about the ones you've got stashed in the cellar of doom, Hunni! Odd weather here, sunny then rain but warmish so haven't done much outside. Had visitors yesterday; eldest granddaughter & her partner & their two lovely boys. Who incidentally are now experts at extracting a milo & biscuit from great gran, having learnt that a smile & please work wonders, because apparently I'm now a pushover! They're such lovely kids, & the youngest has decided he wants his hair long so clearly a bit of an unconventional soul & good for him. Have done some bits of work on a painting of a house each for all of them, (including for the two expected later this year) with some quirky little thing in each - one has a tower attached, another a treehouse & another a slide etc. etc. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 25-03-2023 Gardening in the cool weather, now watching weird SF as my back recovers. Moved the three blueberries I had to stash for the painters, one has suffered badly, might not be able to save it, but we will see. A hard prune might work. Meantime planted one of my cutting grown hibiscus, and a hydrangea and emptied the climbing lily pot. Lots of new tubers to sell off during winter, to pay for my TM frivolities, I do like it when gardening pays its way! Mates rates if anyone wants some. RE: You can never have enough... - Venetian1 - 26-03-2023 The mornings are certainly darker at the moment but will change again next week. Not cold though this am. Have been having fun turning the ex-hot water cupboard into a new pantry/storage cupboard. Measured the width and it was 900mm just right for pre-made shelves. Ummm no - the top one fitted with a bit of a push then no way would any more. Being a bit older place obviously the cupboard is a bit warped. Had to borrow BiL jigsaw and sister and I cut off a thin slice from the other 4 shelves and a good fit now. A variety of hooks and baskets later and it is looking good and has freed up space in other cupboards. Have cleared all the old tomato plants and now planing what to plant for over winter. I’ve started harvesting my bonus peas that have grown from the pea straw that I used as mulch. There are pea plants in odd places all around the garden. Haven’t actually cooked any peas yet as they are young and sweet straight from the pod while I’m pottering in the garden RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 26-03-2023 My sugar peas suffered the same indignity, lol... Never hit the plate! RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 26-03-2023 morning ladies The fog is clearing and the sun is coming out. MrK is building me a box to store my machine sewing thread in. Apparently the shoe box I'm using isn't good enough lol. I'm itching to get out and start cutting back in the garden but the dahlias haven't finished flowering and the bees need them. Success with the swan plant I planted a couple of weeks ago when I spotted a monarch flying around the garden. We have two baby caterpillars and I just hope they are not too late in the season. Our peas very rarely made it to the pot as well lol. Especially if the kids were picking them. We would find a trail of empty pods from the garden to the house. Not that we cared, they were there for the eating MrK has asked for the 'winter' sheets to be put on the bed. I prefer it to be a bit later, but he feels the cold more now. And I will toss the blankets off if need be. I think I'll put the kettle on and decide what to do today happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 26-03-2023 Morning all Overcast today Mmm.... yummy fresh peas. My afternoon activity was interrupted by DD and DGD1 calling in early afternoon they stayed for early dinner. I will catch up this afternoon. Need to do a bit of a tidy up this morning might need to walk the k9s will see how DH is after morning tea. The old girl balked yesterday while coming up the hill to our place 9kg is very heavy to carry I think I will take a backpack next time just in case she pulls the same stunt. I usually take them in car to off leash areas when I walk them but avoid those on weekends. Gotta move Enjoy your day and your peas RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 26-03-2023 Morning everyone We slept in, I think it was the wool blanket that made the difference. Only put it on about 4am cos the temp had dropped a bit. Def Autumn, I have two tops for the day, changing with the temp lol. I put a lot of crafty stuff on my FB page yesterday, then a friend pointed out I hadn't put the prices on... I blame that on the cricket lol.. But done now. And I've sold some. Haven't looked this morning yet. Fresh peas from the pod are the only way I eat peas. Dont like them cooked or canned. but MrP cant have them, for some odd reason they give his asthma. So I just dont buy them. Although I have some in the freezer for when my Sister friend stays. Probably do some more listings today. But it will be a quiet one Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 26-03-2023 Good morning. Gorgeous day ... it's like summer still at the beach with lots of people swimming, playing and surfing Busy times here with family and one lot coming to stay until they find somewhere to live. It will take my mind off the wayward family member acting up over my mum's will ... this time SO often brings out the worst in (so many) people It's not like there's a lot to dispute over ... idiot! Lawyers the only winners. Not much handcraft getting done even though cardi and cross stitch near the finish line. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 27-03-2023 Morning everyone, Still a little dark out there. Woke up with pain and decided to throw some bread on while I was up lol.. So it will be cooked about morning tea time lol.. Speaking of bread I found a kneed free loaf on FB yesterday that Im going to have a shot at too. Its only flour, salt and yeast. And you let it rise for 8-24 hours. Heat up a Dutch oven or casserole you can cover, you can use tinfoil as well. It looked scone-ish but I figure its worth a shot. I will add some sugar tho cos yeast needs sugar. I gave in and phoned MrP. He was ok. He asked why I hadn't called. He doesn't remember telling me not to. But he does believe me. Hes been seeing mental health which is great. I told him about my stumble and he offered to come home and look after me. I said the best thing he can do is stay there and be looked after... He will never stop wanting to come home.. Thats finally through my thick head and I just have to try and ignore it. Im not going up today tho... Im beginning to wonder if I did some damage when I stumbled into the lift. The lady who brought the cook books messaged me last night. Asking if the payment had gone through.. Turns out she has also had a heart valve replacement so I think we will probably stay in touch. I had a look online last night about getting some grass for Missy. Originally thinking about using a big plastic tray and growing some grass seed, then discovered you can buy Cat grass and catnip of course in pots. So Im going to ring MItre10 on Wednesday and ask if they could put one of each in the reception, so I dont have to hobble right out the back to the gardening section. I have some rectangle planters so Ill plant them up and sit them under the breakfast bar, on the kitchen tiles, on a tray and she will absolutely love them. $5-29 each or two for $9. So a good buy to make my girl happy.. Ill call it a late birthday present lol Kiwimade I was telling MrP about the round abouts and barriers for Highway 29, I wont tell you the language he used lol.. but he too reckons they have probably never driven the road either lol. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 27-03-2023 morning ladies Another foggy start to the day, typical Waikato weather this time of the year. The roundabouts we can live with, popeye, we have even been asking for them as the intersections are where the most accidents happen. But the barriers... *rolls eyes*... Blimmen family, eh, roma. There seems to be at least one in every family that gives grief for no reason other than to stir the pot. We have one at the moment too. I think we are the last in the family she is talking too. We have some roast chicken left over so this morning I'll turn it into chicken pie for dinner. The chook was bigger than I thought when I bought it So that will be the first thing to get on with this morning. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 27-03-2023 It was a huge load off my mind when I backed off from all family stuff. The drama quotient dropped away to almost zero, and I had time to sort out my own life instead of worrying about what was going on in others. It was probably a relief for them too, lol, one less personality in the mix, because even if unintentional, sometimes our presence is as much a match to the fire as anyone else's. I have got to the point with my friends estate matters where I can bring it all to a close, and while no one else will be happy, I will be. Some roles are both privilege and burden, but I have learnt a great deal from this exercise. And I will put that new knowledge to work redoing my own Will and Advanced Care Directive so the person tasked with sorting that out has a clear path before them. Well, as clear as I can make it. One thing though, that little funeral cover policy I took out was an excellent decision, I do wish J had done that too. That little bit of extra money will help a lot with last expenses. Yesterday I split up a clump of my special agapanthus. The stems are really tall, bearing glorious heads of slow opening navy blue flowers that do not spread by seed, so it is not a nuisance in the garden, but boy, a clump is hard work to split. I finally gave up playing nice with a big kitchen knife and got vicious with a spade which sorted them, and I have seven good pieces to pop into the back of my two perennial gardens. With luck they'll not need tending for another five years, lol. I will just have to remember to snail bait them regularly, they are snail farms in whatever hybrid form they come. Might have an indoor day today to recover from all this energetic garden stuff... |
