RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 30-03-2023

Entrelac is gorgeous! It frustrates me though with the way each bit is knitted individually.

I've finished stitching the blackberries and have started on the leaves. Outlines are all done and now I need to dig out my pliers to cut the wire. No doubt MrK will want to take over that bit lol.

Lawns are mowed and a teeny bit of weeding done. I stopped weeding as I've had an idea for this part of the garden and it's going to mean some digging. Will start it tomorrow. I was planning to 'do' this garden next summer but seem to be on a roll at the moment. I'll have some hellebores going spare if anyone wants some.

OHH this is an entrelac beret I made for my Mum when I was living in Oz - she sent it back twice to make the band smaller - she was a tiny little woman very determined she liked a tight band but a loose hat - love doing entrelac - the pins from my circulars are perfect and the art of backwards knitting is a bonus

Wonder what happened to a lovely Vogue entrelac book I had - I made a couple of baby blankets using the patterns

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 30-03-2023

Entrelac Is lovely. mum never tried to do it tho I dont think. And she was a very good knitter.

Love the Hat Jan.. Im with your Mum I dont mind a loose hat but like bands to hold it on firmly.

I dug out a wrap this morning it was soo cool. But had the air con on in the car by the time I got home lol

Its lovely and warm at the mo. with the sun streaming in.

Lol Kiwimade, you and your added gardens hehe.. There's a house on the way into Pukekohe that has its full front fence lined with Dahlias, putting on a lovely show at the mo for sure. My stepfather had HEAPS of gardens, we inherited them, there was a mower width on the front yard and only a little more out the back. And he had some beautiful flowers.

Just had some tiny tatties with a wee bit of butter, salt and pepper and grated cheese. I would have had some crunchy bacon in there too if I had remembered to get some out of the freezer.

That’s great JanW.  I love it that older type patterns are getting a new life again.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 30-03-2023

Thank goodness the wind has beggared off but had a hurricane arrive on my doorstep - blardy family my sibling who we never see or hear from she lives up North and if only the Napier Taupo Road hadnt been open I would have been saved an earbashing and a half - I went to the community meeting with one cousin from the three families including hers to decide what we would do with their inheritance in the Esk Valley that is full of silt and worth maybe a dollar - the grandchildren of the man who Dad was shares with live on the land - they were willing to take the problem off our hands so its in the lawyers hands - but the hag from the North isn’t happy - so now my other two siblings have to go to the lawyer - we will spend more at the lawyers than it’s worth - tried to tell her Dad never owned a share in the land just a share in a wool scour that is full of silt - we haven’t spoken for five years it will be another 5 years before we speak again .My Dad would be turning over in his graves - there is still a little bit of money sitting in an account he left me trustee of that I am to give a grandkid who digs a hole they can’t dig themselves out of - one of my sisters boys borrowed it once when he was in a huge hole but he paid it back - she seems to have forgotten about that - I had a lovely piece of snapper for tea she made me so angry can’t remember what it tasted like !
Kiwimade entrelac is fun because you pick up stitches from the side of the block so there is no sewing - great for using up scraps - knitting backwards is easy and means you don’t have to turn at the end of the row and it still looks like stocking stitch - had forgotten how much I enjoyed it
Feel sorry for Nash in a roundabout way - my Mum would say he lived beyond his means - he should have listened crime was out of control - there was no street lighting in town - Robie was running on generators so lighting in the shop was dim - car loads of gang members and their hangers on arrived - when people walked out the gangs just grabbed their trolleys - or walked out of the supermarket with boxes of booze or anything they fancied - two staff had knives pulled on them one young girl was punched in the side of the head - they had to close at 7pm because of the generators and no street lighting - they banged on the doors and revved their vehicles up right against the windows - the staff slept on site they were too scared to go out - the police could not respond there just were not enough of them - the staff hid their cars around the back the next day so they could go home when they closed - he had to stay open beneficiaries live week to week they couldn’t stock up on the weekend before the cyclone hit - wasn’t the police on the ground they were searching for bodies - he kept saying at the meeting people should have reported the crime that his stats are saying there is no gang crime .The donations Nash received from the people he sent the email to were a lot of money one donor was giving him $5000 a month for a year - there were a lot of others giving thousands of dollars including Forestry Companies not included surprisingly in the enquiry into slash .He has restored a beautiful old fire engine which he used when he was on the re election cycle - interesting character with a rich family history - very well educated - sad actually .Overall it is very overwhelming

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 31-03-2023

morning ladies Smile The sun is coming up, we need to make the most of the 'autum' days as daylight saving finishes this weekend.

Mica, finding the boat neck pattern was a bonus! And you are right, this is why we keep these patterns.

I love the hat, Jan Smile I tried entrelac knitting but it just frustrated me. I think I may have had the book you mentioned too. No doubt due to the frustration, it was donated to the book fair. We have a shop in town that is slowly building up knitting and sewing supplies. She said she won't carry a lot, but enough to tide us over if we run out of thread etc. She does have some gorgeous fat quarters though which I am very tempted with.

I started the leaves last evening and shouldn't have as I was tired and mucked it up. I'm surprised I haven't unpicked anything up until now lol.

Today I'll start moving some hellebores to the big empty space at the back which will leave me with a more useable big empty space in the front of the garden. The tall blue salvias are also filling in spaces along the fence and around the tree which is hard to plant around thanks to the big root system. I'm a fan of letting things grow where they want when it is difficult ground to garden. I'll have a think about what to fill the space with over winter. I also have some cyclamen, lavender and pansies to plant under and around the bay tree. It was cheaper to buy lavender in a six pack punnet than to buy the three lavenders I wanted separately. I'll share the left over three lavenders with either a friend or my sister-in-law. And I like growing plants from when they are small Smile I had better dig out the chicken wire cylinders MrK made to put over the new plants. It's all about rabbit proofing!

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 31-03-2023

Morning everyone

Another chilly start.

Oh Jan you really are copping it from all sides. I hate family stuff when people die and estates have to be wound up. In one way for me doing mums was simple cos when she moved in she sold everything. So there wasn't anything left. My twin still thought she had heaps of money.

It also sounds like Robbie is a Wonderful Man. Looking after everyone else, caring for his staff and customers. You can feel proud you have raised a wonderful man. I hope they stay safe and get through this mess. Mother Nature has certainly been a tart, for causing soo many long going troubles.

Im up to see MrP earlier today. Need to be home for the alarm people to come and replace the faulty smoke alarm. Then Ill pop back up the road to post some buttons I sold over the weekend.

I got some lovely extra layers yesterday. Cos I have my "Arm Wings" or my grandmothers spares as I call them usually buying longer sleeve tops is hard. But while they are snug, they fit. They wouldn't have last year. Took ages to dig out 2 pair of trackies. But found them I did. I actually thought I did well. I got 2 pairs of trackies, 4 tops, 2 marked down tops, 2 pairs of slippers, 10 pairs of knickers and a dressing gown for the grand sum of $154.94. Thankfully Winz does clothing grants, which you pay back. So its like an interest free loan. And something I am extremely thankful for.

Have an awesome day everyone.... Im feeling good today

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 31-03-2023

Morning all
Mild and no wind

JanW seems like we all have a family member who behaves badly Confused
Good shopping Popeye you will be toasty this winter.

Off up the coast to visit the fabric shop that was closed last time we went . So I checked yesterday that they will be open tomorrow explaining about previous experience received a very passive aggressive reply to check hours on website yes we did that . Good thing their fabric is very nice. Will be a car load . I expect we will stop for lunch too  Cool

Need to do a food hunt when I get back so will be a full day.

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 31-03-2023

Good morning.

Another cool morning but we are in for another sunny day by the looks.

The wee family plus dog have gone out for the day, no doubt to relieve some stress of missing out on a house .... again. Also frees me up to catch up on a few things around here! Plenty of washing with a baby in the house!

I'm with you Jan for the acting up family member ... being in the same boat at the moment! I hope the lawlessness can be  got under control, as if the district needs the added pressure of having to watch over their shoulders for those 'types'.

I have learned something new with the entrelac style of knitting .... those berets are lovely examples.

Well done Popeye on your shopping score, I used to live in trackies during the winter when living in the cold South Waikato years ago.

Fabric shopping sounds like a fun outing Mica especially the 'eating out' part afterwards.

Nearly finished the cardi, will follow up with a needed baby beanie now the days are cooling down.

The washing machine has beeped and then time for coffee before a dog walk and decide what to do first.

Enjoy the day all.

The property we have maybe $6000 share in - so that’s divided up between 9 grandchildren is at the end of this silt road - we are all off to the lawyer this afternoon - absolute stupidity
https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/1949373205.jpg
I will politely tell her to get her wheelbarrow and shovel out!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 31-03-2023

lol I love that 'get your wheelbarrow and shovel out!' Blimmen family, you certainly find out what their true colours are when there is a death Sad

Most of the hellebores have been dug out and I've left some to fill in a corner. The cyclamen are in the ground Big Grin and look so pretty with the sun shining through the flowers. They catch the sun when it's a bit lower and not so hot. Tomorrow a dahlia that snapped off at the base will be moved and some lavender planted. Then all that needs to be done in that garden is cut back the salvias when they have finished flowering and prune the roses in July.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 31-03-2023

That doesn't sound like much fun, Jan. But it will pass, as everything does & one day you'll be on the other side of this & able to look back at it thankfully.

Managed to get the back lawn done & in just under an hour which is a miracle after all that rain. Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 31-03-2023

Oh it's a sea of mud..

Yep I'd be offering the wayward one some boots too.. I might even stretch to a bottle water.

Had a busy Day. Saw MrP all 3 gents were still in bed or their jammies. The physio came in and worked on Ken, then came back to MrP they are going to work on his Balance.

She saw me doing my leg exercises and MrP told her I was getting a new knee. She said I was doing the right thing. She wished a lot more people would work on their muscles, it helps for a better recovery.. She suggested that I hold my leg up, to the count of 5 for a couple of weeks then go longer if I can.. So Im wrapped that she helped, and that I was doing the right thing.

Popped in for my magnesium and I may have Accidentally come home with a stunning Rose Quartz and silver bracelet which has a Family tree. Enclosed in a circle. Which is what I have wanted for a very long time. The enclosing of the tree was what I've wanted cos then it won't catch on clothes etc.. It ended up on my account . As a reward for my weight loss and an early birthday present.

The girls all gathered around when I tried it on and one very quietly asked how much weight I had lost, cos they have all been watching. And they were blown away with the 52 kilos and said I had well and truly earnt my reward... And I have some earrings to match that MrP got me the day we brought my wedding ring.

Then I had the Alarm guy in. And I told him about the attitude of the property manager saying that the Cavius alarms were the best and that our firemen were basically useless.

He put the usual style alarms up. He said his company weren't using the Cavius ones now, they are too sensitive and too many people were complaining.. I can tell you I laughed my head off when he left.. lol.. I will email the PM over the weekend to tell her that lol

Had to go back up to post the buttons, and I had said to MrP I might go for a look in the oppy, cos there was something there for me... And yes there were two Tupperware bowls that I have wanted a couple of for a very long time, and they are retro. And getting very expensive on TM at the mo.. Got 4 more tops too oops.. One was a farmers brand and my friend thought the other is an Ezy buy brand..

So came home very sore but its been a good day.

Time to ring MrP and settle in for the weekend.

Was talking to my friend in Taranaki who also has bad knees and her physio suggested getting a skateboard to use when exercising. Which will make one of the exercises a lot smoother too do. So Im going to see if anyone has an old on Fb or I might have to pop up to the recycle center over the weekend

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-04-2023

morning ladies Smile Winter is in it's way, the morning has that feel to it.

You did well with your shopping, popeye Smile

My sister phoned yesterday, my first thought was, what do you want. And yep, sure enough she asked if we could have The Fluffy One over Easter. She only phones if she wants something. MrK also has a sister like that too. Wonder what she would have done if we were going away.

Housework for me this morning, then if the weather plays nice, I'll keep going with the garden. I got so much done yesterday I ended up with a pile that won't fit in the bins. It can't be composted thanks to convolvulus and now ivy. How on earth did we end up with ivy in the garden. MrK thinks it has come in with the mulch or birds. Either way, it will be gone Tongue The dahlias are looking like triffods and have gone nuts. We had a late start with them but boy, they are making up for it now.

No embroidery for me yesterday, hopefully today I get to tackle the leaves. I'll read the instructions properly this time. I've had an idea for my own stumpwork piece, just need to figure out how it will all fit and stay together. It should be both frustrating and fun Big Grin

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-04-2023

Morning everyone,

Not so chilly this morning, and very overcast and still.

Winter is on the way for sure, the crickets are heading in at night. So the snake goes across the door to the garage. No way of stopping them unless I make a very long snake for the double width door. And then I suspect Missy would pull it away anyway lol.

Yep there are always those that you only hear from when they want something. And if you dare to say no they have a hissy and sulk. Like how "Dare you say no to me.. do you know who I am"... Full of their own self-importance and we are simply there to be at their beck and call.

Going to have a tidy up today. The car looks like a Bomb of reusable bags and blown up. And with MrP being a car painter he likes cars to be clean and tidy..

I just brought My last spoil.. A set of Mini Tupperware tumblers which will complete my display, although I still need one colour. They are the old pastel coloured tumblers but are only 11cms tall. Very handy for left over cream or dressings etc. I will still have a couple for the kitchen.

Have a fab day all

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 01-04-2023

Had a lovely day out with my sewing friends yesterday - we all came home with fabric, I bought some nice navy merino hopefully it will be a dress this time next week. of course we had to stop for coffee and a snack too Big Grin

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 01-04-2023

Ahhhh, ladies! The more I hear about your family challenges the more confidence I build in my choice to just move away from my own. It is interesting the way we inherit a disparate group of people we call family, and become conditioned into accepting from them, the kind of behaviour that crosses our boundaries. We wouldn't accept such things from strangers and yet we fall in line because we grew up with these people, we know them inside and out, and we love them because they are part of us. Part of our histories, part of our lives.

We human beings are strange creatures!

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-04-2023

Strange creatures, indeed, OHH Tongue

One leaf done and one with the wire couched in place. There are so many different techniques I have never had the chance to use before so am quite chuffed Smile I'll find some beads to put on the blackberries later and stitch the stems they are to be attached too.

The temperature has dropped Sad but the rain we had was a good dose for the garden.
