RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 02-07-2023 My morning sewing was interrupted by the cat fossicking a wine box bl#@%dy witch had bought in a young rat argh... I am not good with rodents that can jump and run. Luckily we have terriers who once alerted were very interested DH rescued me and closed box and took outdoors and humanely dispatched . I live in fear of what the feline might bring indoors I take comfort that the k9s will alert me if there is something of interest RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 02-07-2023 Yikes Mica, mice are one thing in the house .... rats quite another! Glad it was taken care of without too much drama. I would be sunk ... 3 legged now disinterested dog plus almost toothless old feline .... once upon a time a formidable hunting team! RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 02-07-2023 A few weeks after my husband passed I rang Robie told him I could hear chewing in my bedroom wall - he convinced me it was the grapevine rubbing on the house - next night the chewing seemed right by my ear - rang him again and he arrived round with an arm full of rat poison and mouse traps - I th8nk he just scooped up the entire shelf at the supermarket - so he made 12 bait stations and put one behind my bedside table and the rest all over the house and set mouse traps everywhere all the time grinning - first night I thought I felt something jump on my bed thought it was either my imagination or the neighbours cat that used to come visit my husband but when I woke up the bait behind my bedside table was gone - had great delight in telling Robie - slept upstairs for about 3 nights until the bait stopped disappearing but we couldn’t find it until one of the neighbours said a rat had built a nest in her toddlers cot mattress - so Robie tipped my bed up and there he was https://trademe.tmcdn.co.nz/photoserver/full/2026765209.jpg My husband kept telling me not to leave the French doors in the bedroom open so late because of the creek I learned my lesson RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-07-2023 Oh Jan, that reminds me of a childhood trauma involving a petticoat dressing table, two large wetas, and two disbelieving parents woken at 3am by me screaming the house down. Until I opened the skirt on the dresser and there they were... Worse though is my sister's tale of popping into their first floor loo and being greeted by a huge grinning rat who disappeared via the sewer pipe. It was a long time before I could use that loo... Oh the horrors of everyday life!! I can't stand rats either & apparently there's a move to rid the entire country of them, which would be brilliant but I really can't see how it could possibly be done. How awful, to have it so close - horrible things. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 02-07-2023 Hunni the toilet rat would traumatise me for life - no wonder I thought the chewing was near my ear it was in the drawer of my cabinet - it was huge Cooling down quick here - haven’t seen my new neighbours yet - the curtains don’t open but Uber eats deliver twice a day - otherwise wouldn’t no anybody was there’s- must be running electric heaters they havent lit the fire RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 02-07-2023 Uber eats and heaters? They must be - that, or foolhardy spendthrifts. On that subject, I see that the $33 million winning lotto ticket was sold down here in Merivale, which is one of the more affluent suburbs. I'm hoping it was someone not well off who was passing through... RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 02-07-2023 They are refugees Hunni - I don’t want to know who is paying its so regular I wondered if they have a contract to feed them - our drives both come up off the pavement as one so I am not being nosy when a car comes up naturally you see if it’s coming here - I know the owner of the house has been getting $1000 a week since covid - it has a new kitchen so there is no reason why they can’t cook - it’s leased for emergency housing- a family should be in it and these two should have stayed in a motel - they are just waiting until they can go to Oz - but our lovely Ukrainian family had to go RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 03-07-2023 morning ladies It's cold outside but that's ok, it is winter The house is busy from the get-go and it's great. Our grandson doesn't stop talking lol, even when wearing headphones while playing a video game. And he's always on the go, even when sitting, he makes us dizzy just watching him lol We still have at least one more rat to trap. This one is a cunning buggar too. We knew we would have rats and mice when they planted the maize next door. We hadn't caught a rat for at least two years but now we're back to square one again. MrK tells the story when his sisters (twins) were about to have their 21st birthday party. He came home the night before after a few (maybe more ) beers, went to pee and a rat was in the loo. He went inside, grabbed his .22 and shot the rat and the loo to smithereens. His sisters were not impressed lol and nor were his parents lol. The day of the 21st my father-in-law was buying a new loo and plumbing it in. It's still a story that is brought up every now and then in the family lol. Our grandkids especially love it The Fluffy One spent most of the night going in and out, in and out. She can't go outside much at home so makes the most of it here. Our grandson pointed out her freshly groomed white fur now has a green streak on it from rolling on the grass And her lovely white muzzle is now black from burying something in the garden Today we're off to the library for 'space books' and we need a few little bits and pieces as well. I might see if I can buy the thread I need locally too. Now our grandson wants more breakast That boy has hollow legs lol Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 03-07-2023 Morning everyone Ohh Im glad Im not down south. Its cold enough here. Stay warm everyone Im off to see the grumpy one this morning.. He put his orders in for his birthday last night. Cos I haven't organized anything yet. Wants a radio and headphones.. Well he will be getting the alarm clock this morning that has a radio on, and they will have to tide him over until I can afford a better one. While Arthur is away he can have the radio on without disturbing anyone. Cos Ken goes to the lounge all day anyway. It could be a short visit if he starts being too bad. Even moaned cos I haven't looked for a knife he needs, I know where there is one and I can walk straight to it.But when he asks for something he expects me to get it straight away. Grrr. Apparently his legs have flared up again.. And he has decided not to have the camera down his throat on Wednesday. His choice. But Id say he has an infection on board again. Im not going to see the girls, I simply cant stand as much as I need to, even without making the toasted sammies today. So Ill wait till next week and I should be back to normal. Have a fab day everyone.. Stay warm and dry RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 03-07-2023 Morning all Very nippy outdoors Janw your rat story gave me the heebyjeeies, laughed about MrKs Started drafting a pinafore dress for DGD1 but neighbour and sewing buddy popped o er for 2nd opinion ion on her current project. Then kids turned up and stayed for BBQ chicken. I tried new recipe for me of honeyed yams decided to add carrots and parsnips to the mix. Very tasty so will add that to my repertoire. DH is currently prepping 2 lamb shanks for dinner tonight DGD1 has a cough so we are looking after her this afternoon so no sewing for me today Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 03-07-2023 Good morning. At last we have a nice, sunny day looming. The wind is more tolerable - great for the washing though. Have been out for groceries ... very quiet at the supermarket ... not that I'm complaining, perfect shopping conditions! Only buttons to find and attach to the cardigan and will have to think of next project ... the cross stitch needs finishing in the meantime. Niece now on maternity leave and wanting to keep occupied, is coming around later for some knitting lessons. We'll see how we go My coffee is finished ... had better tidy up. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 03-07-2023 Weird day here - sunshine to showers in a blink - very chilly Just read a bitter sweet story on Ozzie news - a house was broken into and along with the usual TVs etc the thieves took the 11 year old family cat - they posted on Facebook throwing it off the bridge into a reasonably big river - the family have been up and down the riverbank for 14 days and finally found him today - the cat took a wee while to come to them but as soon as it realised it was safe came bounding out - love good news stories like that RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-07-2023 People who do stuff like that are oxygen thieves. One of the reasons I still support the death penalty for that kind of creature. RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 03-07-2023 OMG Jan ... my heart was in my mouth as I read your post. I thought there would be a body ... poor cat, but he's alive ... utter lowlifes RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 03-07-2023 (03-07-2023, 03:03 PM)JanW Wrote: Weird day here - sunshine to showers in a blink - very chilly There's something very badly wrong with people who harm an animal, the poor little cat must have been terrified. So glad it turned out well. Freezing here, & a strong wind came up just as I set off to get one or two things & look for ideas for Xmas & birthdays so rather slow going on the bike. Coming back quite a bit better as it was a back wind rather than a head wind. Doing stuffed spuds with fish tonight, can't be bothered doing much else. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 03-07-2023 I did big flattish meatballs yesterday, so last night vaguely Italian, tonight one goes in a burger bun with salad, and tomorrow - who knows... Definitely not in the mood for bothering. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 03-07-2023 I did a green curry last night and doubled it so tonight it’s been great - a ping of the microwave Yes the cat story sure shows how sick some people are - our ginger cat that used to go camping with us was a string swimmer - lucky the Ozzie cat obviously was as well RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 04-07-2023 Morning everyone I read your post out to MrP last night Jan. It affected us both.. These things are oxygen thieves. Makes you wonder what their parents are like too.. And we both hope that the Karma Buss arrives well and truely. So pleased that the cat found his family. MrP has decided not to do the camera thingee tomorrow. He talked to the Dr yesterday, and with some of the staff and me, and we decided that its really asking for trouble. He was quite down when I got there.. He is scared that he is getting old and nearing the end. Oddly we were both stronger about this for a very long time. Now he is scared of dying. But one thing that did perk him up is the thought that if there is an afterlife he cant wait to see his Sister and Brother in law. He, well both of us were very close to them. Its his Birthday on Thursday so Ill be taking fish and chips in.. he will love that. Loves fish in bread lol. Arthur came back from Hospital, nothing changed so we are guessing that if he had been going for a hip, that an emergency one might have taken his place. My day off today. So housework lol.. maybe , At least I have plenty of clothes so I dont have to worry Too much lol. Have a fab day all |
