RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-07-2023

Morning everyone

Wet here too.. But I have to remind myself its winter nd at least I dont have to mow the lawn, which really would be a problem right now.lol

Yeah Kiwimade after many years of slopping around in Crocs its time to get something decent to wear. Trouble is I dont like the high bits behind you feet. and I dont wear shoes inside. And Im hoping that it will straighten the rest of my bones a bit too. A friend said last week that I used to be taller and she's right. I guess without the cartilage it adds up over the whole body lol.

I will get my clothes hung today. Its the only thing Ill do standing.. Tea is taken care of, in the form of left over potato bake.. And I need to shorten the Jammie pants. They are certainly making a huge difference to my sleeping that's for sure. Thank goodness lol.

Mica when I was at the recycle center yesterday they had 3-4 sewing machines.. They were old. But sad they were being dumped. I know one was a Bernina, but was only for parts. The others had been tested and workable. Im not a Bernina fan either.

I killed my mothers Metalick Green Huskvana many years ago. I was 11 and she had got a job doing piecework. She didn't like the boredom of doing it, but me being methodical took it over. But the poor old machine cooked. She was a neat sewer, Im bull at a gate, generally lol.. Piecework works for me, I go into a different place in my mind while the body does the repetitive work.

My Stepfather brought her a new machine very early on. I think she must have sold it in the end.

Have a fab day everyone... I think I've talked myself into sewing something lol.. Maybe Ill make a pinny too.

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 09-07-2023

Ha ha popeye I am not without machines lol I have 3 but the computerised one is the one with bigger harp space that I use for free motion quilting. My  old machine is 49 years old and still sews like a dream, my other is 20 years old smaller and light so more portable to take to sewing groups etc
Its sad to see the older  machines languishing waiting to be adopted to a new home. The old Swiss made machines were made to last.
DH just returned home and has made coffee Coolso now have lovely trim flat white beside me to enjoy Cool

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 09-07-2023

Good morning.

A miserable, cold and wet day.  Best for staying inside and staying warm!

My sis and niece have just gone home after staying the night.  We had other niece's baby shower here yesterday afternoon.  Lots of fun and yummy home made food down to the hummus and seed crackers.  Now we're waiting for  cousins to call in for a visit dependent on their cat returning home after jumping out the window  Undecided

My bernina still going strong 45 years later ... solid and weighs a ton but it does what I need it to!

Memorial for FIL tomorrow ... expect to be a large gathering of family and the weather to be typical Waikato winter.

Stay warm and dry all.

If you like Crocs, check out the Skechers versions. I find them to be extraordinarily comfy on my funny feet, and I can walk easily in them. I think Merrell make some too, another excellent brand for those who need a good footbed.

Not cheap, but worth it.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 09-07-2023

My friend in the States phoned and yep, it's 44 degrees Celsius there. Sigh...

I'm a Janome girl and love my little machine. Our daughter scored my older machine, but I think she got the better deal though. I'm hand quilting the placemats as the only colour I could find to match them was hand quilting thread. And I can't use it on the sewing machine thanks to the wax on the thread. But it does slip through the layers of fabric and wadding beautifully.

Might have a fossick in the fridge and see what is there for lunch. Hopefully there will be some pumpkin soup left over from the other day.

I’ll second Skechers.  They last for ages and I wear mine with a lot of walking. One pair is about 8 years old and still going strong. Makes a huge difference having well fitting and sensible footwear on back and leg joints.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 09-07-2023

I love mine, the flats and the croc type ones I use as garden shoes. I love that I can hose those down to clean, and scrub the others before popping into a pillowcase and machine washing, then into the dryer to finish off. No stinky shoes! So I use those for everyday, and my good leather pretties for going out last longer!

Memory foam in the footbed is so good...

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 09-07-2023

I was thinking about Skechers.. Luckily we have a shoe shop here. I did try my friends on years ago and they did feel comfy.
Ill get past the car warrant and battery first, then start looking.

I've cut out two cushions and I managed to eek 3 aprons out of the pretty strawberry fruit and flowers fabric for aprons. But the legs and foot was starting to complain, so I sat down and was barely in my chair when Madam arrived.

So here I sit lol.

TV is too good tonight. I saw Misery years ago but never saw the end, Id also like to see the Gloriavale Doco, then there is my building shows.. What does one dooo...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 10-07-2023

morning ladies Smile We have a lovely misty start to the day.

We watch Country Calendar, Sunday and then decide whether to stream or watch whatever movie is on.

The elusive mouse that has set the trap off four times without being caught, was finally caught this morning. Big Grin Over the last few evenings, MrK would see it run across the living room floor to the kitchen. Fingers crossed it's the last one for a while. I'll reset the trap soon after it has been emptied.

I have MrK's sore throat. He's been very generous sharing his bugs. He tested for Covid 'just in case' and was negative so it's a head cold.

It will be a quiet day today, perfect to do some more hand quilting.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 10-07-2023

Morning all
Another damp day here

KM hope your sore throat passes quickly good you have hand work to do.

I was laid low with migraine  yesterday so still a bit tired today so will have quiet time hand stitching the quilt binding.

Enjoy your day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 10-07-2023

Morning everyone

Wet here.. again lol.

Sore throats are my nemesis.. Cannot stand them. Had tonsilitis many times before they took the buggers out. Hope you improve soon Kiwimade.

Off to see MrP. Taking him a bacon buttie since I have some thick bacon. Yes I could slice it, but its something he never gets in there. and Ive had it twice already. Not bad for a 350gram packet of pieces.

I might get to the sewing machine to sew, as Im not going to see the girls... Ohh poop its games day so the sewing can wait.. I will ring Bobbie later tho.

My SIL rang briefly on yesterday. She has had her knee surgery. They only did a half replacement. Was only in Hospital two nights. And she really is suffering. Nothing prepared, and she is a Leo who likes to be in charge. And is finding it very hard to let others do things for her, and also being dependent on having others drive etc. her Hubby, MPs eldest brother gave up his license when he turned 80, so they are having to rely on others.

They really are finding that while living in a small town might have once been good, with both of them being Heart people and now with her surgery, that they need to consider moving closer to a hospital. They are pretty much half way between Whanganui and Hawera.
We always did say they would grow to regret moving there. And there is no way they will get good money for their house, or the money back they have spent on the house since they brought it.

Im very unsettled when it comes to housing. I want to move closer to a hospital, to make it easier for myself. But Im on hold until MrP goes.

Was offered a smaller house last week, I drove passed it on Saturday. It would be great apart from one thing. Its smack in the front of another house, I have always hated living in a gold fish bowl. But it had no outside to speak of, but also no garage.
My Aussie friend said I was nuts for not taking it.. I said A I cant pack everything up, yes Winz would pay to move me, but Im still paying the last move off. And B there's no way I can live without a garage.. Then when I told her its $20 more a week for a way smaller house she finally understood why I wont move just yet. Ill consider it after my knee has recovered.

She has no idea about the amount of work that goes into moving. She has others to do hers for her.

Right I better get myself sorted.

Have a fab day all

Moving is horrible, I agree, so it helps to have as much advance warning as you can to allow for that awful job of downsizing, decluttering, and planning. I do not envy you, and I hope to never ever have to do it again, despite my ongoing decluttering bent. That's more because I don't want to lumber someone else with too much of a burden when the time comes, while holding onto to the things that make me happy now. There is a fine line, and it is always changing, lol...

Thats one of the problems , downsizing and decluttering. I've been getting rid of some stuff But somedays I actually wish I was living in a  motel room with just the basic amount of stuff.  A dinner set for 4, not 16. And every conceivable baking dish, tray etc.

I swear some days Ill just throw lots in the garage and have a $2 garage sale.

What I should do is empty one of the bedrooms and just put in there what I want to keep.

Frig the smoke alarm just went off lol.. cooked toast 10 minutes ago and it wasn't anywhere near burnt lol

That is what I did when I decided to apply for - and was told I would get a pensioner unit. I got the measurements of the studio bed sitter space and worked out what would fit by moving into 'that' space in the flat I was in. It was a real wake up call. Once I had sold off - by bargain pricing - the big stuff to pay for the moving truck, I then packed everything else up and phoned the Sallies to pick up. It was hard, but funny thing is I have to think hard to remember what I got rid of. Except for one big squashy reading chair and ottoman, which I really wish I still had. It was so comfy...

It certainly makes sorting out the essentials from the rest really easy.

Sadly Im not old enough for  council flat in Auckland Yet.. Must have a look in Taranaki tho.

But I think its a good idea using a room, or like you the measurements and working to that.

Oddly we sold everything and moved into our Bus.  And it was easy ...but It took 3 weeks to empty that bus when we moved back into a house lol. Mind you we were both very tired and since it didnt have to happen fast, it didnt.

I might Move MrPs bed back into his room and use the "Guest" room to work through stuff. A little and often will help. have to start in the wardrobe tho lol Yes its full too lol.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 10-07-2023

A strange yellow thing was sighted in the sky today; some say its the sun but it hasn't been seen for so long (at least 2 days) who knows..

Too wet for doing much outside & when we went for our walk there was water lying around at the park & I made the unwelcome discovery that one of my gumboots has developed a small leak. I immediately thought of The Good Life when Barbara has that problem & they fixed it using a puncture repair kit. Fairly sure I haven't got any though & anyway these are old & need replacing before next winter.,

I've almost finished The Good Life, one episode to go so will see what else there is that I've forgotten about.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 11-07-2023

morning ladies Smile Another hit and miss day with the yellow thing in the sky, today, I think.

When we did one of the bedrooms up, MrK built a corner book case. To make sure the furniture fitted back in the room, he made a scale model using cardboard and bits of card so we could jiggle things around without having to shuffle furniture. Worked a treat!

It's pretty sodden here too, Lilith. The creek behind us is full to the brim and has been flooding further down. Ugggg... what a nasty surprise as your socks become wet from a gumboot leak. I had to buy new gumboots this winter, bit the bullet and bought red bands. OMG they are so good. I would never have thought of using tyre patches to repair the old pair, but like yours, they were pretty old.

Now there's a blast from the past! The Good Life lol. I remember watching it as I love Barbara Kendall. She's in a murder/mystery series called Rosemary and Thyme on Acorn TV and still looks the same.

Yesterday was spent reading and sleeping, I didn't feel like doing much else. This morning my throat is still sore but not as bad. MrK has it worse as he has coughing to go with it and is still spluttering this morning.

Another mouse trotted across the living room floor as if it owned it last evening. I'll check the trap shortly. We knew we would have mice after the maize was cut but it's frustrating as we haven't had rodents for at least two winters.

We watched the comedian Pax on TV1 last night doing a conservation program and thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll be watching it again.

Today I'll make another attempt to hand quilt some more placemats. Really need to get this done so I can work on the thrush.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 11-07-2023

Good morning.

Nice and sunny ... here's hoping it continues.

Lovely day spent with the wider family yesterday.  Eulogies are always a fascinating insight into someone's life  Smile The Waikato certainly showing signs of too much rain!

Today will be a catch up day ... washing, groceries and library books.  If it warms up may even get into the garden later.

Really enjoyed Endangered Species Aotearoa last week and again last night.  Pax is certainly adding humour to the series.

Cuppa finished, time to move.

Enjoy the day all.
