RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 20-02-2022

Good morning.

A lovely morning so far, after a heavy downpour surprised us yesterday morning.

Yes, Nico did SO well. Amazing that the temperature was -32 degrees! Even our reporter had frozen eyebrows, interviewing further down the Mountain (more like -15 deg) during her interview!

There were signs of toppled trees/branches all along the road and in peoples' properties on the way to Hamilton yesterday. A lot already cut up and in some places, free to take away. We were lucky to only lose the one small (big for us) tree.

Visitors this morning and some more outside tidying planned.

Have a good day.

Morning everyone

Our Kiwikids are doing us Proud.. Go Nico and Zoi.

I got a fair bit achieved yesterday. And have two pick ups today.. One being the divan bed.. Im going to try and get it into the garage myself.. Once stripped of the drawers it is alot lighter. Kind of feel attatched to it in a way. I had one when I was a kid and used the drawers as my glory box. but It needs to go. so Ill get that done early while its cool. Should they not turn up it can stay in the garage for the garage sale next weekend.

I experienced my worst blood sugar low last night. OMG it was full on. Sweating, heart pounding, shaking, felt like i had no legs from the knee down. But I managed to get two super sweet hot chocolates down and a banana.. In the middle of eating a pork chop that Id cooked perfectly, which I didnt finish dammit lol...I need to cut down the insulin to match the weightloss and probably have a wee snack mid afternoon. Never want that to happen again.

Thats the trouble with kids Mica lol they keep growing...lol.

Have a fab day everyone

I have discovered something about me and my love of fabric stuff from this latest adventure into slow stitchery. And it is partly sparked by our conversations here. I have a huge on and off Pinterest habit, being a visual image addict it is the best online addiction that feeds all my interests, and it too is the other clue I finally decoded about what it is that attracts me - it isn't just the stitch technique, or the colours, or the satisfaction of it, it is the texture that results from needle and thread into substrate, be it cloth or paper. The mark making is part of it, but it is the handle, the touch, the haptic feedback I get from both sight and touch. So I am drawn to quilts, to embroidery, to weave, to knit, to stitchery just as I am to ceramics, and gardens, and baking and landscapes. It is that magical combination of textures layered upon textures.

It is such a feast for the senses.

Today is the birthday of two of my grandkids - cousins, two years apart - & as they'll turn up at some stage to collect their loot, I took the dog for an early walk. The sun was out at that point, (but has started playing with clouds so not always sunny) & the really nice plus from going that way so early was that Grumpy Dog was not out on his deck, waiting to pounce on any passers by who happen to be dogs.
Not physically pounce thankfully, just rush to the gate, stick his formidable nose through the bars & bark his disapproval loudly.

I'm having a break before I tackle the ironing, didn't realise just how much of a mess I had made with my sewing lol. I usually tidy as I go but for some reason, didn't this time.

I completely get what you are saying oh_hunnihunni. For me it's the creative journey and satisfaction of making something hopefully, worthy of a smile. Whether it's sewing, embroidery, gardening, or whatever craft I am working on, I need to feel and touch it. I especially love making something different that my friends don't have. I'm a visual person too and often find myself looking at something and then mentally pulling it apart to see how it was made. I learn a lot this way Smile

uggghh Lilith7, I hate dogs that charge at me when out and about. The Furry One isn't perfect by any means and goes into protection mode when people come to the gate. Not growling, just barking to tell us we have visitors. And just enough to stop strangers from opening the gate without us there. He's good though when we tell him to 'leave it' and stops. I think it comes from when we were attacked by another dog when out walking. The dog came out from under bushes and just launched himself at us.

Must be close to lunch time. Might whip up a sandwich and then do the ironing. I can iron my tui picture onto the fabric while the iron is hot. And finally put the ironing board away. Smile

I'm cleaning the kitchen. It is my penance for spending so much time this week with a needle in my fingers.

Soon I will have to tackle the floor.

Dammit.

If I were you, I'd leave cleaning the kitchen a while longer - y'know, when it gets to the stage where you have to hack your way through the cobwebs.... Angel Big Grin

I fully get what you are saying ladies.

To the point that I actually make myself stay away from craft fairs, mainly cos I stand there trying to figure out how they made things. And then telling myself not to buy anything cos I can make it lol..

The bed , free wasnt taken in the end.. Hate time wasters but it could work to my advantage. Its good to have free items at garage sales. but Its in the garage and not in my way.

Kiwimade I meant to ask if you watched the repair shop on friday night before the Sewing Bee. A lady brought in a multi squared leadlight frame of insect pictures. And there was a Frog with a dragonfly above it.. It was nice but I liked your stitched one way better.

Right Ive culled the varigated yarn. I have it but seldom use it, so Ill find some prices and list it on fb I think.

Its good for the soul getting the work done for this garage sale. And its good to have some money in my purse too lol.. I will have to bank it and then do a withdrawl so I can get some change for the float on Saturday.

Just watched Nico get his Gold Medal... ohh the eyes filled

Except that I just might have a tradie in there this week installing my range hood. Right where the wobbly shelf that supports all my pots'n pans is. All of which have now been scrubbed and stacked ready for me to find somewhere else to put them. I cannot do underbench cupboards, so it is a conundrum...

For another day.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 21-02-2022

morning ladies Smile A bit misty this morning but so far, no rain. I have the hose going on the garden at the moment. The garden is gasping for water.

I have some pruning to do today, the bay tree is getting too big and needs a cut back. I love working around the bay, lavender, sage and rosemary as I always come away smelling of them. I cut the hebe back hard the other week as it was looking very sad (old age we think) and it's coming away again. If it still looks sad, then I think it will have to come out. It must be at least 20 years old.

I've ironed my outline of the tui onto my fabric so it's all good to go. Will start that later today as I know the colours to use. My design book is becoming full of ideas, so much too do lol.

Better move the hose, another spot will appreciate the watering.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning Everyone

A good dew on the lawn this morning and its a lovely temp. Yesterday was a warmer one.

I got more stuff sorted for the garage sale yesterday.. Todays plan after I visit MrP will be the two banana boxes of cake tins in the hot water cupboard. I hope to cut it down to one box. Only keeping my fave ones.

Went to put my chicken in the cooker yesterday and it made a horrible sound. Gave it a shake and tried again but still sounded crazy lol... Soo Of course a few days ago Id put the spare one in the big cupboard in the garage.. And of course I had put the bed in front of it yesterday.. But I dug it out lol... it did a good job too even faster than the older one. so maybe it was on its way out for a while. Taking the drumb sticks and parsons nose up to MrP I dont eat them lol.

Speaking of which the whole weekends food for him has been awesome. He's been able to eat all his meals.. He's so much happier now. !!

Im planning a cull in the fabric department.. It wont be easy lol but Im hoping to cut a 3rd out.. And there's a couple of pieces I want to get out and turn into wraps. Ive loved wearing them in the last couple of winters. one piece is black with bright colours stitched in and there's a piece of black lace which hopefully will be Big enough too.

Have a fab day everyone.

I'm waiting on delivery of a piece of salted hand dyed silk today. Dying to see if I can use it somewhere in the current denim adventures. The parcel has been delayed and patience never was one of my strengths...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 21-02-2022

Bay tree is pruned and the branches and leaves mulched.  Jasmine has had a haircut too, thought I might as well do that while I had the loppers out.

Oh_hunnihunni, I would love to see a pic of the silk when it arrives.  It sounds stunning.

Popeye, I love watching the Repair Shop.  It's one of my favourite programmes and even MrK is getting into it.  I love how they try to keep the integrity of the piece being repaired.  I saw the stained glass window and was so envious of her lol.  It was just gorgeous and the way the guy repaired it was very clever.

Kettle's boiled, I'm going to take a cuppa out to the garden and enjoy my toils Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin  Might even make MrK one too Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 21-02-2022

Good morning all - I am obsessive with my crafts and it’s funny when you read posts how memories pop into your brain - when I used to make cloth dolls was always on the look out for bits and pieces that would be handy - had a room full of all sorts - when we moved to Oz had moved on from cloth dolls to blankets so decided to sell my stash on trademe -i kept one plastic bin of special stuff but made over 5k in sales
I was making a cloth doll and got the idea in my head I wanted russet coloured hair - so dyed some alpaca curls in a mixture of tea walnuts etc etc - turned out beautiful after much experimenting so laid it out on the table of our sheltered patio to dry - went out a couple of hours later and it was gone - I was in a panic so the old boy joined in the search -we had a house below us and he spied it hanging in their large walnut tree - of course his telling me to start again caused more drama - so down he went with his ladder - risked life and limb and rescued my precious hair - she turned out beautiful - if any of you have seen any of Jill Maas cloth doll patterns it was one of her patterns - great days
