(06-08-2023, 04:19 PM)JanW Wrote: Been a beautiful day here - been out to the park watching my granddaughter play hockey just finished in time it’s starting to cool down
I have been lucky to avoid the health system - only go to the doctor once a year to get my repeat prescriptions to continue but couldn’t keep my asthma under control - scared myself a couple of times then  I was feeling increasingly fatigued so decided the breathlessness might be my ticker .Waited 10 days to see GP - had all sorts of tests hearts good blood work all good - light bulb went off I remembered when I was 65 I received a lot of literature from Ministry alerting me to post polio symptoms that people were starting to experience - breathlessness fatigue muscle spasms which I have been having in my hands I thought it was from too much crocheting - several other symptoms I had written off as old age .So GP contacts the Ministry for me to go to the diagnostic clinic - funds were cut in April as part of the health restructure and the centre has been dismantled- there are hundreds of different inhalers I can try surely one will work - might start drinking stout my Mum used to have one a day for fatigue - who ever would have thought polio would come back and bite me after all this time .I am not a very good patient
No wonder the hospitals are all struggling everytime one of these idiots shoot each other they use up hundreds of health hours and people needing hips and knees and things wait even longer .It staggers me when I read people denying crime has not increased .This week supermarket crime stooped to a new low a young Mum was buying her lotto - her full trolley was beside her with her toddler in it - the gang recruit grabbed the trolley and took off out to a parked car - several people rushed to help so the driver got out with a metal pipe - they grabbed the groceries  and pushed the screaming little girl onto the road .But even though the gangs are out of control here we aren’t having regular gun fights like Auckland - we have only had two murders in the last 12 months Feel so sorry for the frontline police
Just picked broccolini carrots and broad beans for my dinner - have a couple of chicken sausages which will compliment my veggies
The first lambs have been born on my sons farm - it’s very cold down there so they all have coats on

My Cousin had polio and is suffering now too.. She has a lot of problems but always says you cant kill the weeds.

My Uncle on my dads side had it too but he died. I think he was only near 30ish...

Amazing what they can do to help... if there is the money.

OMG that is disgusting re the woman and her little girl. They will probably both need a lot of help for the mental side of it..

Saw lambs on Thursday which was lovely to see. The farmer always puts them in the paddock near the road, closer to his house, to keep an eye on them I guess. Quite neat tho cos the lambs are at one end of a long straight and the Daffodils are at the other.

Made a Chocolate sponge, turned out good.. Ill make another one and swap a little more of the cornflour out for cocoa. I went easy cos the cocoa I use is quite dark, but I have room to move.

Had an idea to make Colleen a chocolate and cherry trifle and put a little custard on it instead of cream. That way I can use up todays test sponge as well.

Morning everyone

Little bleak out there.

MrP was sick most of yesterday. Im thinking the Morphine might be doing it, or a bug. So Ill get a hug this morning, no kisses. He has walked to the toilet, which is the first time since his last fall.

Decided to have a look online on my phone last night and what should Pop Up, but a post from Whitakers with the chocolate - cream ratios for Ganash. So I was meant to look.. I didn't get around to finding my cake plate, so since Im only doing one home today, my hunt is on lol.

I saw some new Christmas toy patterns on Saturday. I might look into that further. My Sister Friend in CHC loves Christmas as much as I do and it will be the Best present out.

She text last night and said she had 14 New World stickers for me already. So Im well on my way to the roasting dish.

OMG I looked at the bottom of the oven, there are holes in there.. So once I've baked the cake I will stop using it and contact the property manager. Its not safe, and I dont think there is anyway they can change the layout to put a free standing stove or anything, so they will have to find a new smaller one. Whether that means finding a new Hobb as well Im not sure.
But it will be nice having one with instructions and numbers on.. But I figure if I can make everything from sponges, to Pavalova, I'm not doing too bad for guessing lol

Have a fab day everyone

One of my neighbours is a bit blase about covid precautions and has been rather scathing about the way we make sure the shared laundry is surface cleaned and the machines regularly sanitised.

Guess who is down with covid and suffering rather badly.

A good reminder to us all perhaps?

COVID certainly still around. Know a woman who scoffed about covid that it “wasn’t real and just a little cold” and anyone who had a vaccine was liable to be unwell or even dead in 2 years.

She got covid twice in a few months and was very sick with it both times and is now in liver failure so has been really sick for months since getting covid.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 07-08-2023

Yes, the damage it does is not to be underestimated. I am one of those keeping up all the strategies I can, primarily because I make a terrible patient and loathe being even slightly crook...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 07-08-2023

morning ladies Smile A bit on the late side for me this morning. We still have fog, I suspect it will be here until lunch time.

lmao OHH, I know it's mean, but I love karma. MrK's cousin's husband was the same and when he caught Covid, we laughed. He was also scathing about 'a bit of flu' and refused to be vacinated.

Ohhh Jan, that poor woman and child. What a dreadful thing to happen. I'm glad they are OK.

We were in Rotorua yesterday checking out my sister-in-law's newly painted home. She has chosen lovely colours. While in Rotorua, we decided to have a walk along the newly developed lake front and wandered into Ohinemutu. And there was a Royal Spoonbill being kept company by a swan. Couldn't believe our eyes when we saw it. I had never seen one before, but MrK had. What a treat. Then on the way home we spotted a male pheasant in all his glory. We haven't seen a pheasant for years.

Today we are just pottering about Smile

Happy crafting Smile

Pheasant? Yum... I never minded dealing with those when himself brought one home, lol. Gorgeous birds, and unbelievably tasty...

RE: You can never have enough... - Venetian1 - 07-08-2023

I agree KM - I have no sympathy for that stupid woman especially as she tried so hard to discourage others from getting a vaccine or wear a mask.

What is annoying though is that she is in and out of hospital so much now and clogging up a bed.  She wouldn’t trust the medical profession on getting a vaccine but now expecting them to treat her long covid.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 07-08-2023

Karma is such a *itch.. But I do love it...

I get looks for still wearing my masks in shops etc. But they can look all they like. The last thing I want to happen is to get a call up for my op and discover Im sick.

Got to MrP and he was sound asleep , so the first 30 minutes I just sat watching the birds on the golf course. His coughing is over thank goodness. I wouldn't kiss him tho, So I told him Id give him a Jimmy Kiss, long joke about when we met and my Stepfather said no kisses now. Just handshake's lol

Beena bad crash on the Kaimais this morning.. Time something better was organised for that area.

Went and got some Cherry Jam so Im fully set now... Will make another sponge tomorrow.. And if it fails Ill be buying on lol and dress it up lol.

Saw a guy Ive known from the garage sale family this morning, risking his life lol. He told me I was looking good, I dont think his new girlfriend was very pleased tho lol. Oh well it made me feel good lol

Will be the last bake until I hear from the Property managers.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 07-08-2023

I wish those that get covid who aren't vaccinated were refused treatment, Venetian. Mean again, I know, but it also makes me so mad that they suddenly trust the medical profession with their recovery. The doctors and nurses must be so frustrated with it too.

We've had the Furry One back to the vet as he is still plucking his fur out. A higher dose of Prednisone and spread over five weeks this time. We have spent a small fortune at the vets with this dog over the years. Just as well we love him to bits. And I suppose up until this dog, we have gotten away pretty much scott free with pet health issues.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 07-08-2023

It was warm earlier but is now clouding over & temperature dropping a bit. Glad I took the opportunity yesterday to do that bit of pruning; it could have done with a bit more but I can't quite reach further up the tree.

Had a scout around one or two gift shops earlier & came across a couple of nice coffee mugs so may get some later, a bit closer to the next two birthdays.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 07-08-2023

Alexander McQueen doco on Maori tonight... And tomorrow afternoon I expect, if you miss it...

Im with you on that Kiwimade. No vacc no treatment.. Makes it fair that way.

Found 2 holes in the floor of the oven. And the Hobb is connected so the property manager is getting their appliance guy onto it. I asked nicely if I could please have one with fanbake again.. but that Ill be happy to have one with numbers. lol.

Have decided to go buy a chocolate sponge. Im a bit scared now to turn the oven on, now that Ive seen the holes. Can tart it up with cherry jam and cherries, chocolate and cream.

Dr didn't see MrP, so he isn't happy. He's very low at the mo.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-08-2023

morning ladies Smile It's overcast this morning and we are expecting rain so I'll mow the lawn as soon as my coffee is finished. Should have mowed over the fine weekend but I wanted some 'time off' from lawn and garden.

The Furry One seems to be much happier and boy, he slept well last night. All this fur plucking and licking must have been tiring. He was even doing it in the wee hours. We're expecting the Fluffy One this weekend as my sister is off to Phuket for 10 days.

Later I'll keep plodding on with the placemats, I'm begining to wish I hadn't started this lol.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 08-08-2023

Morning everyone

Wet and Grey here... But Im ok with that.

Have decided to give the sponge one last shot. Ill be super careful. I hate it too tho lol. Arghhh!!!!!

Need to make another uncooked slice. And I have washing to do too.. Which is good. I like being busy when I feel good.

Watched the Advocate on behalf of the family of that man shot last year. She kept saying he was Unarmed...I beg to differ.. he had a car and as he had already rammed the police car, he was using it as a weapon. But they forget that.

Once again the Police have the worst and most thankless job in the world.

Have a fab day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 08-08-2023

Grey and still here, might be a late start to the day as her'n me are both rather cosy under the quilts...

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 08-08-2023

Good morning.

Overcast but a lot warmer ... expecting rain which will help the sprayed patches in the lawn oversewn with grass seed.   DH pride and joy ... sq metres rather than hectares, lol.

Glad the furry one feeling happier KM, our JR was driven crazy with itching in her last years ... not nice for them or you.

Need to get out for groceries ... the roads around here still gridlocked at peak times ... problem being they have to be fixed. We certainly made a lot faster progress on foot for the school run yesterday than the lines of cars going nowhere fast!

New baby girl in our family with niece first baby yesterday.  My mum would have been proud, 3 GGD's after 5 boys with another girl expected in December Heart

Cuppa finished, will venture out.

Enjoy the day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 08-08-2023

I wonder about a baking soda bath for these itchy babies. I know when Rose went through a childhood patch of eczema it was the only way to soothe her skin.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 08-08-2023

Congratulations on the new family addition, roma Heart Always great to hear good news Smile

I thought of baking soda too, OHH, but his skin is wet and raw from the constant licking. Another vet thought he had fleas (no, he doesn't) and our vet squeezed his anal glands yesterday much to the Furry One's disgust. We are wondering if it was that as he stopped pretty much straight after that small indignity. Whatever it was, he's much happier now.

There is only the road frontage left to mow but oh dear, how sad, it's raining. Tongue It started to rain just as I finished the front lawn, perfect timing.
