RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 18-01-2024 Oh Popeye - it’s comforting he went peacefully but he will leave a huge hole in your life - take care of yourself - have you got somebody to help you with all the arrangements RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 18-01-2024 Thoughts are with you Popeye as you come to terms with your loss. Heartening for you that Mr P went peacefully. Take care and know that we are all thinking of you. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 19-01-2024 morning ladies A bit cooler this morning. I am sorry to hear about MrP, popeye. Hugs and heartfelt thoughts to you. Look after yourself. Jan, that message is disgusting. You can contact Netsafe and they will help you through it. As OHH says, some men are scared of strong women MrK has his eye appointment with the specialist today. The first we heard of it was a text message reminding us of the appointment on Wednesday. I'm assuming the letter they send out is still in the post. Yesterday I found a website that will sell me evenweave fabric for embroidery by the meter Oh happy days lol. Much cheaper than buying the precut stuff that is never the size I need. I have ordered the fabric for the table runner and they even have free postage. I am still having a tutu with the design but now I have found evenweave fabric, I may incorporate some fancy hardanger into the design. Better get moving. Extra hugs for popeye. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 19-01-2024 Morning everyone Got to 31 in the lounge last night. its was stiffeling. Thank you for your kind thoughts. All I've ever wanted was for him to not be suffering any more. Odd how things happen. The day I first met him he had just been given 3 months to live, but he as telling his Sister he wanted to buy a Holden Commodore.. Thats part of the reason I liked him, he could have given up but didn't. his last car ride yesterday was in a Silver Holden commodore.. So totally appropriate. It was sooo hot yesterday that When the undertakers rang to say who was coming and when I asked that they dress down. I said its far too hot for suits etc. it was a young man and he left his jacket off. I had a tutu with the heat pump in the room, so it was lovely being in 18 degree's. I wonder now if when we change the rental agreement that they will have to put one in here. Cos they dont "have to" Until July this or next year, unless its a new tenancy agreement. Time will tell. But Im not doing any paperwork etc till Tuesday. Im going to see the Girls again today as Dianne will be there. Oh their lunch was disgusting again yesterday. Corned Beef, silverbeet pumpkin and roast potatoes. Which might sound good. but gravy on corned beef is just wrong. And it had been in the hot boxes so long the meat was dry as. the silverbeet pretty much dehydrated.. And the Pudding was apricots and we think Creamed rice. but it tasted like it was boiled rice, no sugar, it tasted like they had caught the rice. tasted sort of nutty. They are meant to be having a BBQ today so Hopefully it will be good. Cant wait to see the work you are planning now Kiwimade. Have a good day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 19-01-2024 Good morning. Sunny and I expect it will be another hot day. It seems that you have everything under control Popeye ... take care. It has made me realise we don't really have a plan in place for the inevitable ... all would have been straightforward in the rural community we had lived in for so many years. Timely to have a talk to Mr R so we are both on the same page regarding what our wishes are! I know we both want low-key and no fuss. KM what is the website you are referring to regarding the embroidery fabric? A metered amount sounds much more user-friendly. Maybe this could be the year I make time to start using the thread I have. What is a good thread count fabric to be using? Groceries to get soon and have son coming for dinner tonight ... his family are away with other family members. Just reading how surf life-savers have been getting abused doing their job ... most of the time they are (young) volunteers. What is wrong with people .... those abusers need to be pushed in and held under the water for a bit to help them keep their mouths shut Better keep moving before it gets too hot. Enjoy the day. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-01-2024 Boy, he was such a lucky man, having you to walk alongside him till the end. And now your new life begins. Be kind to yourself for a while now, the world will wait. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 19-01-2024 Boy it’s hot here already - I see the passengers from one of the cruise ships cycling around instead of busing - hope they are used to 30 deg heat Popeye if you are going to be dealing with Winz and you have a joint bank account - open one in your name ASAP and be prepared they are likely to take back part of Mr Ps pension and any disability payments he was getting - good idea to pop up and spend time with your ladies My problem was dealt with Kiwimade - but if I was targeted like that imagine the abuse Golrav received - she shouldn’t be in court The other day when I was digging in my craft room chaos I found a blanket I started when my son was turning 21 and as he is turning 50 next month I thought it might be timely to finish it - it’s very simple - two shades of grey and black - first optical illusion pattern I ever tried - but he was a young man just finishing uni and intending to apply for the police force - thank goodness he didn’t - and now he is a business owner - is a crochet blanket stupid . RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 19-01-2024 Cyber hugs Popeye, this isn't easy for you but at least he's not suffering in any way. You couldn't have done better in taking care of him which has to be some comfort. RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-01-2024 Timely reminder indeed, also a reminder to tell our best ones just how much they mean to us. I learned that lesson young, and have always been comforted by the fact no one I loved went on without knowing how much I valued them. It beats the hell out of those regretted angry words... (19-01-2024, 10:02 AM)JanW Wrote: Boy it’s hot here already - I see the passengers from one of the cruise ships cycling around instead of busing - hope they are used to 30 deg heat Do they do that now? I remember my Mum getting an extra payment when Dad died, to help with her expenses, she also got an unexpected gift from the RSA because Dad had was a Korea vet, which helped a lot with the funeral costs, so she didn't need the grant. But when she died, there were no extras so I spent a long time paying that debt off lol. Still, considering all the support she gave me over the years it was satisfying to be able to pay some of that help back. All these years later it is nice to be able to remember those times with no regrets. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 19-01-2024 (19-01-2024, 11:48 AM)Oh_hunnihunni Wrote: Timely reminder indeed, also a reminder to tell our best ones just how much they mean to us. I learned that lesson young, and have always been comforted by the fact no one I loved went on without knowing how much I valued them. My old boy died days after a pension payment which included disability allowance for his medications - four days after the funeral I received a letter from Winz advising they required the money be refunded - have heard of others in the same boat RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 19-01-2024 When Dad died, they stopped his pension pretty quickly but never asked for money to be refunded. They did contribute towards his funeral though, $2000 I think, from memory. About a week ago I suggested to MrK he get together with his three sisters and they talk about who their solicitor is, what their wishes are, where the money for their funeral is and all those sorts of details. He has one sister who is very secretive about her will (we don't want to know what's in it!) and lives on her own. We have no idea who to contact for her will when she dies and as she is a hoarder, (omg, she lives in a mess!) have no idea where to even start looking. Two sisters are on board with the idea (guess which one isn't lol) but they all plan to talk about it anyway in front of her and try to get the info they will need. I'll discreetly disappear while they have this talk, but MrK will fill me in later And I need to have the same discussion with my sister as well. MrK and I have had this discussion often as there is 21 years between us and we are both on the same page for when one of us falls of our perches. Roma, the site I found is called Stitchnz.co. I used the 'contact us' button to ask if they sold by the meter and for a price and had a reply the next morning. I like 28ct even weave fabric so I can do Hardanger if I want too but it is personal taste and depends on what I am making. For example, my birds were embroidered onto plain quilting cotton as long and short stitch doesn't require counting but pulled thread and hardanger like an even weave. 28ct is about as small as my eyes can manage now, I used to be stitching on 32 or higher. Any purchase over $65 is postage free as well. MrK has had his appointment with the eye specialist and the specialist is stumped lol. He did a very thorough eye exam and cannot figure out why MrK sees double when watching the TV. I'm wondering (a new expert here lol) if it is something to do with the flashing and movement on the screen. RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 19-01-2024 The cruise ship fog horns went off at lunchtime warning passengers they were sailing then again this afternoon - wonder if the ones who bravely went out on bikes didn’t make it back in time - they can’t wait as often there is boat sitting out in the channel waiting to berth It wasn’t the pension I was asked to repay kiwimade it was the rather expensive amount they were contributing to his drugs which we were paying for - it was fair enough Hope it stops raining down south - very very hot still here RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 19-01-2024 Lol, I'd've taken the drugs in and left them at the reception counter. RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 20-01-2024 morning ladies We've had lots of rain overnight so no need to water the garden. lol OHH, that would have been a good idea When I was clearing out Dad's stuff, I found loads of medication Dad had hoarded. I returned supermarket bags of them to the chemist only for them to be dumped. Such a waste. The lawn needs mowing today, I'll get to it shortly. And of course the convolvulus is enjoying this humidity and rain and is going nuts again. Last evening I heard the pitter patter of feet in the ceiling and knew that rat the Furry One let go is there. More bait and a trap up there, I think. As soon as the maize was planted in the paddock next to us, we knew we would have rats again. Really pi**** me off as it took years to get the rodents under control here. The embroidery fabric I ordered will be sent out on Monday. I had another really good look at the site and omg I was drooling over the threads lol. Have definitely found my 'happy website' lol. I'm seriously thinking of ordering the etoile thread, it has such a lovely shimmer and would be perfect for pohutukawa flowers. The fishing rod money has come at the right time lol. Happy crafting RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 20-01-2024 Morning everyone Has rained here too. And its a nice temp at the mo. I have put my head in the sand and decided to not do anything about paper work until Tuesday. Im glad I went and saw Bobbie yesterday. She wasn't good. Didn't sleep much. But was focused on not missing the music, she snuck away, so I did too lol. They were meant to have a BBQ yesterday but cos they got such a good report about the previous hamburger they did it again, with potato salad and a green salad, garlic bread and then a Lamington.. Alot wasted.. they need to look at their waste of food its disgusting. But it went down well. David gave me a big magnolia cutting with a huge bud on it. Its partially opened overnight. And Its a white one. My Fave colour flowers. I have brought everything in from the car and will go through it later.. If it fine's up Ill mow some of the lawn. But sorting can happen while its wet. I realised cos I haven't been eating properly that was probably the cause of my cramp. No salt.. Ended up putting cold water in the bath to pop my feet in to get the cramp to go. Never used the bath for anything else. The plug leaks lol. Then I had a bright idea and put too hotties in the fridge. Worked a treat. only one lock up overnight. The funeral grant is $4400 ish now. Ill apply for that and My benefit will change too.. Ill lose MrP's "Spending" money. So the juggle will be harder.. but Ill keep selling stuff to keep me going. And downsize for when I move anyway. Have a fab day everyone RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 20-01-2024 Good morning. We have had a little rain overnight and it is now overcast, hopefully we won't have the humidity of yesterday. Thanks for that stitch site KM .... have bookmarked it Good result for the T20 game again, not that we stayed up watching to the end ... a shame they don't start the games an hour earlier! The aftermath of losing a family member is certainly ongoing ... so much to get your heads around at the time and then the 'what to do with stuff' at the end! I still have boxes (of my parents) that I don't know what to do with the contents .... mostly photos (and slides), but plenty of old items including a pendulum clock and a film projector, lol. We definitely like the idea of a cremation first, followed by a memorial at a later date for close family ... any I've been to or involved with was so much more informal, relaxed and enjoyable. No plan for the day but it's looking like a good day to get out in the garden. We are now picking a handful of blueberries each day ... great for the morning cereal. Enjoy the day all. RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 20-01-2024 Morning all Raining and warm Must look at that site KM looking at my red hardanger table runner I can't believe how much it has faded might need to replace it. Finished my ^quick^ quilt project yesterday started to stitch binding down last night Will be quiet day here not sure what I will get up to Enjoy your day RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 20-01-2024 There is no rush to sort things, popeye. Legal stuff can wait for a few days and the sorting will take the time it takes. The lawn is mowed and I'm sweating like crazy. Can't believe how much it has grown in a week. And my petticoat hoop daffs are popping up. Another flowering plant that flowers usually late Feb/March is flowering now. So much for my autum flowers lol. MrK is making a shepherds pie for dinner from some leftover lamb. And he's stewed some plums that I'll turn into a crumble later. He can't do much outside now but he loves cooking, so I leave him to it. Quite handy really as the garden can be done 'my way' Next on the to-do list is sorting the recycling and taking it in to the transfer station. They don't open until 10.00am so time for a cuppa afterwards. RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 20-01-2024 Finally heard from my twin. The pollock had changed his number and told me wrong.. I told him off, like I have been wanting to. lol. odd that we are the youngest and both widowed/er, the eldest two dead and the middle brother is 40 years married in December lol. After her parents sat at our dining table and said they didn't think my brother was good enough for their daughter lol. Should never challenge any of my family.. you wont win lol I've done washing, made a steamed pudding, put some stuff away, crumbed some chops and texting with 3 people at the same time lol.. Now having a nice ham cheese and lettuce Sammie and Ill watch some cricket. Ill have to Juggle tho, cos I want to get some of the lawn done later. Never thought Id say this, But I Miss the exercise lol... mark that one down lol. Talking about taking those meds in.. Several years ago after countless calls to the Auckland Council about the mess their cabbage trees left in our yard, meaning our lawn man had to pick them up, I took two black bags of the leaves into the council office and put them on their desk. Simply said these belong to you, told them where the tree was and that I would continue to bring them in if they didn't start picking them up themselves... Never had to do it a second time.. but I would have lol Cricket has started RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 20-01-2024 (20-01-2024, 11:33 AM)popeye333 Wrote: Finally heard from my twin.Lol Popeye ... that will learn them!
