morning ladies Smile

omgg lmao that poo-tin made me laugh! I've just read an article on Stuff how captured Russian soldiers don't want to go home as they will be shot. Putin has an awful lot to answer for and I hope he lives to face the war crimes tribunals.

Yesterday I finished my sketch of the falcon and sorted colours I could use. So far, there are at least 20 colours ranging from greys, to creams, to browns with a splash of orange. There could even be more once I start stitching. I'm going to embroider the falcon onto a dark fabric (ohhh my eyes lol) but I don't have any suitable. When I'm in the city I'll call into Spotlight and see what they have. For now, I'll just have to wait. Although I am tempted to start something else to 'tide me over'.

The paspallum I sprayed the other day is starting to die off. MrK wants to dig out the soil from the beans and some tomatoes and use this for the new lawn and then put the new soil into the vegie garden. This makes much more sense but I suspect we may have tomato seedlings popping up in the lawn lol.

No rain today although it is surrounding us at other regions. Wish they would share it with us, it is soooo dry here.

Coffee's finished, time to get moving.

Happy crafting Smile

I did laundry yesterday and made up a couple of lettuce pots for non gardening friends. Both were muttering imprecations about the cost of lettuces so I pointed out growing cut and come agains was a good cost effective option. Ours are going mad in their trough, I think it might be that stinky sheep and chook pellet layer I popped in among the potting mix scoops. That and twice daily watering. Whatever it is, the spinach and the lettuce are keeping me and my neighbour well supplied with crisp greens each evening so we're happy. I shall drop these pots off this week and keep fingers crossed they do as well for my friends. If they keep up the watering thing...

Morning all
Lovely day here

Poo tin made me giggle.

Sewed some preggy tights for DIL yesterday have more fabric to make another pair but will wait to see how they fit.

Knitted one bootie for the sheepskin booties ,last night might have been 2 if I hadn't had to unpull them because I  cast on the wrong number of stitches.

Off to DD for morning tea, they have been staying at home and getting a bit bored not  socialising trying to keep DGD safe.
Gotta buy some RAT tests for our med kit will do that tomorrow.

Will pick up quilt top DD wants me to quilt so will get onto that it will be a good test for the machine.

Have a good day

Morning everyone

Overcast again today but still no rain... I wish it would rain.

I was doing some reading last night about the med MrP has stopped taking and Bingo the withdrawals are exactly what he is presenting with.. Anxiety, Confusion and depression... So Ill have to see if I can talk him into taking it again, and ask for the Dr to try too.. Surely its something he could have picked up on.

Have to pop up the road this morning, I keep forgetting to get a rubbish bag... will drop MrPs goodies off to him as well, then I wont have to go out again hopefully.

I decided to have a "Fake Lamb Roast" for my dinner tonight. so Ive got a couple of chops in the crockpot lol... Who can afford to buy a roast these days. And it means there will be lots of yummy gravy, masking the fact that there wont be much meat and it will do a couple of nights.

Need to tell MrP there is cricket on today too. I hadnt noticed yesterday when I was talking to him.

Still no flowers on my mystery geranium.. I swear Ill die with shock if it ever flowers lol.

Have a fab day everyone

Good morning.

A bit overcast but very pleasant out walking before. It had certainly dried out a lot in the Waikato as we travelled through yesterday since last time. On our way we took note in the variation of petrol pump prices  Big Grin Getting up to a possible $4/kilo is bad news!

The 'poo tin' also made me smile. I've never taken much notice of the man before but interested to see he has a 'lover' and 4 children tucked away in Switzerland ... I wonder what value he places on their lives, if any! They will be very valuable to everyone else and I imagine live a life of confinement.

Some baking on the cards and perhaps get the dungarees I've only cut out so far, sewn up.

I picked up some RAT tests at NW for $32/5 the other day ... I thought good value (unless you can get them free).

Have a good day.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 13-03-2022

I read somewhere $6.50 each is about right, though I think Chemist Warehouse will always beat the rest, and they do on these as well, at $29.99.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 13-03-2022

Hunni I think it was you who recommended Freckles lettuce - very successful in my pod so were Mr Ks drunken woman - both are still going strong - my cucumbers are still producing apple and Lebanese they seem to grow quicker - the little round duchesse carrots are beautiful - quick growing I pickled some - going to do more they are lovely in a salad
Putin needs a bullet sooner rather than later - the Ukraine leader is simply outstanding - most leaders in the last few years have scuttled off to safety to save themselves

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 13-03-2022

I do like Freckles, it is a reliable 'doer'...

When I was in my local Hammer Hardware this week, they had a double garden pod set up. Oh I want that. But oh so expensive...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 13-03-2022

Has a visit from eldest granddaughter, her partner & their two boys. I only saw them a few weeks ago & I'm not sure what they're feeding those kids but they've both shot up.
If they keep growing at this rate they'll be taller than me in a week or two!
Gave them some peaches & tomatoes to take home - hope those growing lads don't eat them all on the way home! Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-03-2022

morning ladies Smile  And we have another dry day in the Waikato.  Yesterday while talking to my sister on the phone, there was a tornado in the paddocks across the road.  It picked the dust up from the paddocks already prepared for planting and twirled it high up into the sky.  Was amazing to see and was over before we knew it.

Lilith, I remember when our son had a growth spurt.  It was so quick!  One day he was standing eye to eye with me and the next day he was taller!  He went through five shoe sizes in a year.

I found some fabric I think will be perfect for the falcon.  It's a mid brown and will be easier to work with than a darker colour.  I spread all the threads out onto it and placed the colour photo in the middle and the colours blended beautifully.  Then I tried a different technique to transfer the design by stitching the outline through the tracing paper and tearing away the paper... ummm no.  Should have stuck to tried and true.  Today's mission is to unpick the running threads and use my heat transfer pencil.

But first I have a large succulent that needs digging out.  I grew it from a cutting and it did well for a couple of years.  I'll need to cut the phlox back around it first (probably why the succulent isn't doing too well).  The begonia leaf I had in water had grown enough roots to pot up so it's now sitting pride of place on the kitchen windowsill in it's new pot until it is big enough to take on the garden.  It didn't take long to grow roots in the vase either, only a couple of weeks.  I'm hoping I can trade it with a leaf from my sister-in-law's pretty double white begonia.

Coffee's finished, sun's up, I'm heading outside to get that succulent sorted.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 14-03-2022

Morning everyone

Another dry day here too.. It was warmer yesterday but cooled down earlier this morning thats for sure.

The memory of last years tornado here came up a few days ago Kiwimade.. Wish I had seen it tho... Must be amazing.

Well I watched the game..lol.. Certainly two different sessions to say the least lol. Gentle teasing to my Aussie friend while it was on tho. But her son who was born in Aussie has defected and was supporting the Kiwis. Thats hard for my friend as she is still very much an aussie even having been here 20ish years. She rang her son to tease him about the loss and he had a massive hissy fit lol... Probably be back supporting the Aussies next lol.

MrP is taking his med again. Yay

I might get around to doing the pattern for the wrap today... My lazy mend the knee weekend is over lol.

Have a fab day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 14-03-2022

three hours later and I have my falcon ready for stitching. Tongue Phew, to look at it you wouldn't think it had taken so long.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 14-03-2022

Good afternoon grey old day here but the promised rain hasn’t eventuated yet -your tornado must have been spectacular Kiwimade - one day when we were out in the boat a water spurt formed a few metres away from the boat which was like a tornado- terrifying thought we were all going to be sucked up to who knows where
Hunni have seen second hand pods on the veggie pod Facebook page - people buy a small or medium then want a big one - I wouldn’t buy the stand - saw an absolutely brilliant one that was made out of a free pallet on 4 legs made out a bit of timber - I have had 64 Lebanese cucumber off my two plants that cost $2.94 for four - only planted 2 and gave the neighbour 2 - tomatoes are flowering again but I guess they won’t come to anything
Mr P is lucky having you Popeye to keep your eye on him and his medications
My two granddaughters who are studying law have decided to go to Oz to finish their degrees as the lecturers are showing no inclination to return to live lectures and are seemingly content to do another year online - I understand them making the decision but I fear they will stay over there - we have family over there - their Ozzie cousins will welcome them - there will be 4 of them all studying law - their grandad would think it was hilarious they all take after him and can argue the leg of a wooden chair as my Mum would say - have no idea what half her sayings meant
Have a casserole on - smells lovely my neighbour tells me - maybe the portions destined for the freezer might go over the fence - he has been trying to fix his car all day with little success by the look of it

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 14-03-2022

Makes me cross when I see that ad that says online is the same as in person learning. It is an outright lie. Researched and proven time after time. And I can say that with complete confidence, seeing I am post grad qualified to do so on that subject.

Distance learning is convenient for many, but it is not better than in person, for one major reason. It is the interaction between the students in a class where most of the real learning takes place. You cannot achieve that online.

The best possible education offers both forms, and the best outcomes are achieved with a combination of both.

Apologies people, bit of a soapbox subject for me...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 14-03-2022

Nonetheless I'm inclined to agree Hunni - I've done both, & the interaction with other students is a big part of learning. Even if its small things, like another student knowing a better or faster way of doing something. And then there's the exchanging of ideas between students, which can in turn spark other ideas.

And of course, as Picasso said - 'Good artists copy, great artists steal'....he was well known for it apparently; taking someone else's idea & turning it into something else again.

I hope your grandkids return JanW; they surely will if they want to work here.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 14-03-2022

Oh I agree Hunni - most of last year they were at home - even online end of year finals of course nobody would cheat ! Our kiwi kids are going to end up with degrees not worth the paper they are printed on - my two are lucky they are half Ozzie’s and can jump the ditch - actually one of them had been a cadet in one of the top lawyers in Dunedin since her first year - she is a bright spark and he recommended they do something drastic I am sure not all lecturers are reluctant to get back even though rat tests can be used -what a crazy old world it is now

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 15-03-2022

morning ladies Smile Another stunningly dry day here in the Waikato.

I agree with you all ladies about learning. My degree and post grad was a mix of the two. I'm not one who can learn completely online, I need the interaction and motivation with other students. My Post Grad was mostly done online but we met once a week for a 'block' of time to work through the next weeks work. I really looked forward to that day.

Yesterday I dug out the succulent (I have two others the same) and weeded around one grouping of phlox. Cut the phlox back and pulled out the violas that were being bossy and taking over. I've lost some of my primulas as it was so dry even though the hose is on the garden every third day. The mulch is doing it's best but these dry, windy days are just too much for some plants.

Hopefully I can start on the falcon some time today Smile

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Mica - 15-03-2022

Morning all
Overcast start to today

All online learning must be hard, don't know how degrees with lots of labs and practical manage, just glad we don't have school age children to monitor and try to work at the same time

Ddnt get much done yesterday took DH to his appointment  I had had to concel my podarist appt to take him they called while driving home to say had a cancellation so I took that another drive after lunch

Quiet day today decided not to go to all day quilting group will finish off DDs quilt  instead.

Looking forward to seeing your falcon KM

K9s lurking asking for a walk will have to give DH a nudge to get going

Have a good day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 15-03-2022

Morning everyone

Looks like another beautiful day here too...

I totally agree re education and being in the classroom.. Ive done both in the class room and at home and you do miss the whole classroom feeling and being able to bounce ideas off etc..

Wow Jan I can imagine your girls set up in business together. My stepfather reckoned I should have been a lawyer or a private detective. I find out what I need to know lol

I got the wrap cut out yesterday. The fabric stretches far more than I thought it would. I hope to hem it today.

I was sitting there feeling sorry for myself in the afternoon and thought I should move some furniture around lol.. Ive always liked changing rooms around since I was quite young. And my lounge chair has always been tucked away in the corner with no close window. So it got changed, Im by the only window and I really like how I have it now. And the chair that my friend sat in when she visited last year is on the other side of the room, so our breathing wont mix. Which is something I fear.

When I rang MrP last night he expected me to run up there and take a photo of his tea... There's still some mess in his head that for sure... But I told him to bin it and make some noodles if he didn't want to eat it. Im afraid he might get his head bitten off if he mentions it again. He needs to focus on the positive not live in the bad. Its not like he hasnt got food he can eat.

Have a fab day everyone
