RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 15-03-2022

Good morning another grey morning - heavy rain is now forecast for tomorrow but we will see
The kids would not be making the move if the lecturers weren’t indicating that they are settling into online lecturing long after the peak passes - it was really the lawyer one of them works with who sat her down and had a serious talk with her knowing she had options - as long as they are happy is the most I can hope for and they do have family over there
Popeye I saw a photo on Facebook of meals that are being served at Wgtn Uni to the students who are paying nearly $500 a week- they must be working off the same menu as the rest homes -
Started a baby blanket for my new great grandchild in Oz - but decided to add colour to it and make it a little girl blanket so it has more use - lucky I have so much yarn in my stash

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 15-03-2022

Good morning.

Another sunny day ahead.

Busy day yesterday (my grandchildren day), catch up day today which will include some weeding.

Strange times indeed with all the on-line learning having to take place. Our local college is currently closed with so many teachers/pupils affected with covid. Even worse times for the hospitality and retail industries with businesses working from home and no-one venturing out to shop. It's like a bad dream I wish we could all wake up from and be back to 'normal' again!

Time to go and be productive, getting my hands dirty in the garden.

Have a good day.

That's it, the very thing! Smile

I wonder whatever happened to it.

And I'm now wondering what might happen, if we all started discussing peace & its benefits....? Might work, you never know. Big Grin

I have a plastic one of those, but the one I used as a kid is different. Its sort of a leatherette type stuff.. I still have one somewhere too...   The brass would be way stronger tho..

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-03-2022

Just think ladies, with one of those and a bit of raffia we could make our 60s hippie sandals again...

I have just got a hell of a shock. My power bill arrived. This month it is $42. That has to be one of the lowest bills I have ever got. I wonder what I am doing right?

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 15-03-2022

That's the lowest power bill I've ever heard of. Find out what you're doing & let the rest of us know. Smile

I was hoping to get everything done before the rain came, & we managed the dog walk OK so I started pruning back an almost dead Rosemary bush, got half way through & of course that was when the rain started.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 15-03-2022

I Have raffia lol... I saw it a couple of weeks ago..... now where did I put it lol

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 15-03-2022

My unit is 30 sq m. Including the outside deck. And yet I still manage to lose things I know I have, and they are always in the last most ludicrous place I look for them. I bought a pack of zip ties two years ago and put them somewhere dumb and have been muttering about it ever since.

I found them this week. Under the microwave.

Why oh why...??

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-03-2022

morning ladies Smile  We had the briefest of brief rain showers yesterday.  MrK said you could measure between the raindrops lol.  The rain barely touched the ground and it was all over.  Lilith, send your rain here, we'll take it!  The maize contractors won't be happy but we will lol.

Wow, oh_hunnihunni, that power bill is cheap! We're in the throws of changing our power company and are looking forward to their cheaper rates.  We're also one of the low users who will be paying more once the low user cheaper rates are stopped.

I've lost  my secateurs   Sad  and suspect I have swept them up with the garden waste and binned them  Sad  They were a very good pair too  Sad   I need small garden tools to be fluro coloured so they stick out like a sore thumb in the garden.  What really annoys me is I am usually so careful with tools as I've lost secateurs this way before.  On the bright side, my birthday is coming up so I'll buy a new pair then.  That will give me time to decide what secateurs I need.  In the meantime I'll use the loppers and a pair of very good pointy snips.

I didn't start my falcon yesterday as I'm trying to keep the fabric taut in my frame. My hoop isn't tight enough but I can wrap some bias binding around it (a dot of glue on the ends) to grip the fabric.   I suspect I will have to dig out my old wooden frame and stitch the fabric to it so bought some tape to sew the sides of the fabric to the frame as well as the ends  and this should make all four sides taut.  I'll take a pic when it's done so you can see what I mean.

Today I'm going to dig out the carnation and some other small plants and replant them where they won't be quite so squashed.  I'll give them a good soak in worm wee first.

Happy crafting  Coffee Flower Hi

Morning all
Nice day here but showers predicted

We have DIL and DGS stay as DS was in close contact with dreaded virus

So busy at our house we will be looking after DGS while DIL works so probably no sewing will be done.
Finished hand stitching binding on quilt DD made so can give that back later today

Must move off to gym

Have a good day

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 16-03-2022

Morning everyone

I thought I smelt the rain yesterday but suspect it was someone watering their garden lol.. We havent had any since Cyclone Dovi but even then we didnt get much.

Ohh Noo Kiwimade re your secateurs.. MrP has several but reckons he could never find them, probably cos he never looked on the shelves next to the freezer which is totally away from all the rest of his tools cos I put them there lol.

I did the wrap yesterday. Took nearly half an hour to hem the dam thing lol.. Very stretchy and the colours have lots of little bobbles on them, just big enough to catch in the foot of course. But Im pleased with it.

I wouldn't mind sewing again today , but Im not sure what I want to do. Although I could put the gingham ribbon on the pillowcases I got last year. Im thinking Ill have to undo the side seams to slot it in properly... What I Really need to do is go to spotlight and buy a decent pattern for a nice simple summer dress... I have some lovely Broderie Anglaise fabric in both pink and red and would love something frilly. Not just skirts. Last time I used a pattern was for a friends daughter ball dress back in 2004 lol

Time is getting away so I better decide what Im going to do lol.

Both our oppies are now shut with Covid..

Stay safe and well everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-03-2022

It being payday yesterday I had a shopping day and bought fabric for the stash. Quite a bit of it. I have this idea to make lightweight culottes for next Summer seeing those are the things I most reached for this year and next is bound to be even hotter and stickier.

Binding frames reminds me of making lampshades the right way under my Mum's eagle eye. Each frame was bound with tape and stitched so we could sew the fabric to it. Getting the fabric taut and the seams on the wire was a challenge she managed easily but it comes hard to a learner. These days they just use a stiff plastic liner and glue and the shades aren't nearly as much fun.

Or as fussy...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 16-03-2022

I've flagged my hoop and opted for the binding frame.  Had to trim away some fabric as my frame isn't the biggest (might ask MrK to make me a bigger one) but an hour and a half later... voila! It's done.  Thank goodness for ladder stitch!  And for once I followed the instructions from The Royal School of Needlework lol.  Works a lot better than the way I did it in the past.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 16-03-2022

Looks like my tapestry loom with all those warp threads. I found four tapestry weaving bobbins on T m at the weekend, couldn't resist. So now I have no excuse this winter, to not use up some of that vast stash of hard yarns I have left over from my weaving days...

As in two suitcases full.

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 16-03-2022

Its been raining on & off all day (obviously ,when we went our walk someone up there spotted us & turned the taps on) so haven't been able to do anything outside.

Youngest grandson has covid; he's double vaxxed but hadn't had the booster yet. He's young & strong & quite fit so should be able to fight it off, I hope.

Told DIL that if it looks like becoming all out war & NZ gets involved, I intend to chop a few toes off the grandson's & also granddaughter's new husband - they're NOT getting my grandkids for their war. Luckily she agrees with me on it. Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 16-03-2022

Good afternoon.

Gorgeous day, so packed up a picnic and went for a bush walk, the venue which had to be changed slightly due to the highway being closed because of a large truck/trailer accident. Might as well make the most of the sunny days, now that OH's workmates succumbing to covid (6 so far) and he is staying well away for now. Maintenance around the place will be in order over the next wee while!

Clever people in here with their crafting projects on the go. Knitting will be happening here, with a new grandchild on the horizon  Smile

Cuppa time.

Enjoy the rest of the day.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 17-03-2022

morning ladies Smile Another fine day but I see we are due some rain on Sunday. Fingers and everything crossed!

Congratulations on the forthcoming grandie, roma Smile Lovely to have some good news.

I didn't move the small plants yesterday, the ground is so dry it's almost dust so I'll wait until the dahlias nearby have finished and I'll dig the whole thing over. Hopefully by then, the ground will be soil again and not dust. Dahlias are so clever storing water in their hollow stems.

Yesterday afternoon I started on my falcon. It was a bit tricky as the Furry One decided that would be a good time to sit on my lap for a cuddle. I swear that dog should have been a cat.

I'm doing the happy dance here as our tourists can come back... well.. from a few countries to start with. It's been a tough two years for our town.

Today I have a few things to potter with around the house then I plan to work a bit more on the falcon. Hopefully this time without the Furry One's help.

happy crafting Smile
