Oh Popeye that not our experience of Japan,  use the public transport system which is excellent, very efficient Google maps told us what entry and exit for train stations what platform almost where to stand. Cant imagine touring Japan  by bus. People very friend,y and helpful too. Would go back

Lunch then DS picking me up so that I can mind DGD2 while he at dentist.

Bought the feline a microchip feeder so her food will be secure when we move currently her bowls are in the bath so the dogx can't get to them.

afternoon ladies Smile I hope that awful feeling has passed, OHH Tongue

Japan is on our bucket list to visit. MrK wants to see the blossoms and I want to see the temples in Kyoto.

What a palaver to find a box suitable for son's gear. Finally was able to rummage through the recycling behind the Post Office/Paper Plus (with their permission) and found one. Cut it down to size, almost a roll of tape (why use half when you can use the lot Tongue ) and we're almost good to go. We used son's towels he left behind to wrap the bubble wrapped keyboard and controller, a bit of newspaper and everything is snug as a bug in a rug Big Grin

Time for lunch Big Grin

Good afternoon.

Lovely day.

Have not long picked up GD from Kindy and she is re-dressing Barbie that once belonged to DD. There are still plenty of clothes that I painstakingly sewed once upon a time!

Family members have just returned from Japan ... the photos are beautiful (espec the blossom ones) .... they had a fab time and I would love such a trip on my bucket list.

Lol KM, you will be glad that mission completed!

Vest completed and now I can start the new garment.

Need to go and help with Barbie dressing.

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

Good afternoon from a rathe4 cloudy day in the Bay - might blow over might not
I have been to Japan 3 times would love to go back - Kiwimade you would need to tack on one extra day at least to go on one of the embroidery tours - they take you to the silk weavers - the colours made me cry - and the cherry blossoms and temples - and of course the food and the karaoke bars - it was impolite to laugh but they have no inhibitions - loved loved loved Japan
Had a good news story that all the animal lovers will love - a young border collie had somehow survived Gabrielle and ended up on an island out by the river mouth between the two bridges - all year people have kayaked food out to her - tried to trap her but she resisted all human contact - Saturday a lady dog whisperer went out onto the island - fed the seagulls as the young dog watched - I am not sure how long she was out there - she eventually sat down and put a blanket beside her - eventually the dog approached her with its tail between its legs but wagging and licked her face - she sat quietly with her and eventually put a lead on and led her to safety - the video is brilliant - need tissues .She is estimated to be around 2 years old - nobody has claimed her which is strange
Had some yellow tamarillo sent to me - must say I prefer the red original - enjoyed them
Was chatting to the man who baits my rat tunnels - said this year is the worst he has ever seen - showed me the track they are taking across my lawn to the walnut tree in the reserve and going under my fence he thinks probably nesting in next doors grape vine - he popped over to tell them and got a frosty reception Mr Grump next door thought he was soliciting business but he has more work than he can cope with .He showed me the system he sets up in mice infested houses - a series of traps in a container called a Mouse Cafe - they enter the cafe which is baited and kapow - you can’t see the dead mouse which he said is popular with families with kids

I scrubbed out the green bin instead - it was getting very stinky and the two who use it (I have my own compost system) are not the sorts who would bother. Going to be interesting though because one of them has a habit of being 'first' to use it, and is almost waiting for the truck to leave before pouncing, lol... So there were some cuttings in the bottom which I turfed out before applying soapy water. It was quite an effort, that bin is huge in comparison to my little 80 litre recycling one, I had to be careful I didn't fall in. So by the time I'd done a half decent job I was pooped and came in for a cuppa.

Meanwhile, the owner of the little pile of cuttings has discovered them. My life will be hell, lol... Rolleyes Big Grin

Eldest grandson & a mate went to Japan earlier this year. He loved it especially Kyoto, & is keen to go back & see more.

JanW, I just posted a story about a cat in the USA which survived 6 days & travelled more than 1000 km in an Amazon box without water or food.

Schrodinger's cat?

I do suspect Maureen's Daughter would be very hard to please. Shes a bit of an odd one.

I wouldn't mind visiting Japan. so Long as I could find food I would eat lol.. Like KFC lol NOT Macca's

Took over two hours to chase up Contact energy. They hadn't told me things I needed to do when They chose to change the names of the accounts a couple of months ago.. They also had over $200 of my money sitting there on a no longer active account.
Im sick of them.. Could everyone make suggestions of who they are with and how economical they are please. 30ish odd years I think it is with them and they are acting like idiots.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 29-04-2024

We've been with Genesis for years now and found them easy enough to deal with. The staff are pleasant and do what they say they will do. You get small discounts for having your monthly account e mailed and after a year with them there is another discount. Not much, but every cent helps. We've discovered the world of power shouts now we have a smart meter and so far have six hours free we can use anytime we like (book the time first) and can save it for up to two years. We can stack the hours or use them individually if we prefer.

The little dog had been out on the island for over 12 months - people went to incredible lengths to feed her when the weather was rough - was amazing to see her tail wag - sad nobody came forward to claim her

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 30-04-2024

morning ladies Smile Another gorgeous day in the Waikato by the looks of it.

Omg, cats are such survivors and why on earth would you think it was OK to post a cat. And as for the dog in the HB, omg, no claimed her?? Her owners probably moved away when they couldn't find her or couldn't find the energy to rescue her. I hope she finds a loving home where she can recover.

I'm going back into town today, first to post son's computer stuff. Phew, that's a job done. And secondly to buy the cute pair of earrings I spotted for my birthday. I also have a necklace in need of repairs and will take that with me for a quote. MrK bought it for me in the 1990's while on holiday with the kids and I would love to wear it again.

I started the pohutukawa in the middle of the runner yesterday and so far so good. We'll be seeing my sister-in-law over the next few days and will be able to show her. I'll take pics after I have stitched a few more.

Happy crafting Smile

Morning everyone

A beautiful day on the cards by the looks.

Thanks Kiwimade I will look and compare prices later. Meant to say the other day I still have two pairs of silver Thread earrings. I love them. They must be close to 40 years old lol

I hate it when people abandon animals. That poor dog deserves a wonderful new home.

After trying to change my cleaners day yesterday, and being told No. I got a text at 6-30am this morning telling me my cleaner was sick could they make it later in the day. I said No that doesn't work for me. So "Stone me dead" they asked would Thursday be ok... I of course said yes. But when I wanted it they said no lol

So we are back on for visiting Bobbie and hopefully Peter too. I phone them later and let them know.

And I even managed to be able to get 8 cents off petrol today at Gull, until 7am tomorrow.

Kiwimade I shudder to think what the postage will be for the computer.

Have a fab day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 30-04-2024

I started a new jigsaw yesterday. It came in a tin and is very small pieces, but I got a good start done and rolled it up in the mat and put a couple of heavy books on it to protect it from nosy paws overnight. This morning it was unrolled and scattered all over the floor.

Cats are just so curious and nocturnal, I should've known better. Like the cat in the Amazon box, of course it was going to get in, and bury itself in the packaging, it was a temptation too strong to avoid. They are amazing creatures... But she better not have eaten any pieces!

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 30-04-2024

Good morning.

It's cold out there, having just hung out the washing. But the sun is shining.

Lol OHH, I did smile at the visuals! It shows how observant they are as well, noticing anything different. She must be quite playful to have unrolled the mat ... or super curious! Fingers crossed for the full number of pieces .....

Heart warming stories re the marooned dog and the posted cat. Here's hoping the dog finds a good home after her ordeal.

I shall duck out for a few groceries soon and catch up on some housework. The Rengarenga seeds I planted several months ago and that looked very sparse for several weeks now number in the dozens with the biggest plants over 20cm ... definitely time to transplant! They are still germinating!

Tomorrow we shall treat reward ourselves with coffee out after having our flu jabs.

Enjoy the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 30-04-2024

Another beautiful morning in HB - going to have a lazy day today - bit of online shopping to do first - had a brainwave in the night- have had real difficulty getting suitable fabric wide enough to back my Dr Seuss blanket - in the early hours of the morning a light bulb went off a good quality single sheet would be perfect was going for a stretch merino fabric - not sure why now as it won’t be a blanket that gets used as it’s white
Popeye I am with Meridian - pleased I received my bonus as my rate is up but it was legislated to remove our low user rebate over the next 5 years - from 30c to 60c in 2022 - 60c to 90 in 2023 then a whopping $1.20 a day in 2024 - it keeps increasing until 2027 - it was the dumbest legislation ever especially as it hit all our food processors growers and retailers with a 25% increase in power costs because it was unfair they received a prompt payment discount - which went back to the power companies - 51% therefore to the govt but every kilo of meat or litre of milk or load of bread went up at least 14c a kg on meat at the checkout - dumb .If you do that power switch thing Popeye will show you your best option
There have been many many offers to give the collie a home - it obviously came down the flooded river and was a miracle she wasn’t swept out to sea like so many other pets who ended up washed up on the beach for days after Gabrielle passed - her owners obviously have moved on
Kiwimade you are up to the exciting bit now creating the flowers
Have some persimmon arriving this morning - never sure when they are ready to eat - last year I left them too long
Hoping everything is going to fall into place today for my motel Mum - she won’t be going back to the motel - found another house sitting job - but I hear the new government have put families to the top of the list to get out of motels so that’s a good start

Popeye did you know there's a brand of chicken with that name?

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-05-2024

morning ladies Smile We have some big black clouds out there, could use the rain though.

I saw the Korean(?) chicken place called Popeyes was opening. Big Grin Some competition for KFC, maybe. Doesn't bother us as we rarely have takeaways.

Son's computer is winging its way to Perth. The NZ Post rate finder was spot on with costs. We had another text message last evening, mum, you haven't sold my riding gear yet, have you as I've bought another bike. Just the jacket will do, thanks. And then a pic came through of a gorgeous brand new motor bike Smile His sister described it as 'pretty' lol. We will need to weigh the jacket, I'm guesstimating around 3 kilos. We use the Furry One as a rough guide for weight lol. He's nine kilos of solid dog. For one of the boxes we sent, we picked the Furry One up, then the box and compared weight lol. I estimated the box was six kilos and when weighed it was 5.8kilos. Son was very impressed lol. So now it's become a running joke, ohhh, the jacket is one third of the Furry One lol.

The Fluffy One is coming to stay for a few days tomorrow. She is 17 years old now and every visit, we think could be her last.

I'll spend some more time on the runner today. I've had another idea about the middle but will run it by my sister-in-law first to see if she likes it.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-05-2024

Morning everyone

Yes there's a new Popeyes restaurant , in Takanini I think it is, just North of Papakura. Its Louisiana style chicken. Apparently there were queues of people waiting for it to open.

Had a very long busy afternoon seeing Bobbie and Peter yesterday. It was soo nice not driving and seeing all the new building etc. My Goodness the land is filling up with multiple story boxes.

Bobbie cried when she realized it was us. She doesn't normally show a lot of emotion. The place is nice, the staff are nice too and most helpful. But Ohh so many people with many levels of dementia. Her room is Very sparse so we will arrange some pictures for her walls. And a name for the door. She loved her scarf, but of course I forgot to name it. So they will do that. hope it doesn't melt.

Peter got such a surprise when he saw David and then realized it was me sitting in the wheelchair , he sprung up with a huge smile and gave me a huge hug. His Parkinson's is really bad now. But its obvious they aren't drugging him to settle it down. So he's with it mentally. Another huge place. They both have lovely gardens and where Peter is its called the Garden area and its beautiful.

We stopped at the supermarket on the way home so it was 7-30pm when I finally got in. A long sore day. Need a cushion in the chair. But Also was seizing up from not walking.

I have physio this morning, so I've taken pills but I dont think it will be a very good one. I want to try using a walking stick too, so have got that beside me.

Meant to be going to the bingo/craft morning Birthday but I dont have a ride.

Have a fab day everyone..
