Looks like rain too up here on the Shore, so I have let the ladies know I am staying home. I will miss the coffee and company, but it might clear tomorrow, we'll see. Meantime I am planning on hanging some of my mad pink wallpaper today so that should keep me occupied, and amused. So long as I don't fall off the stepladder, lol.

I must get the fourth jab too, now it is available without a script. Especially with all the murmurings about another wave coming soon. The longer I can stay clear of that bug the better. I make a terrible patient...

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 29-06-2022

Very cold & quite foggy here earlier but had to venture out for a replacement toaster since mind decided to call it quits. I can't complain though, had it for years & I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. The emergency toaster was OK till I got a replacement but its quite large so took too much space & I think it must have been made back in the days when slices of bread were a bit larger, because it was always difficult to fish the toast out so glad to put it away again.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 29-06-2022

Good afternoon from a grey day in the Bay - just had lunch with my sister and increasing power bills came up - she is not the most reliable person to take advice from but she claims she is turning off her hot water for 3 days - she lives on her own shower - washing machine cold cycle - doesn’t use her dish washer - it stays hot enough she claims and saves power - anybody else heard of this theory - turning mine off is a mission the builder certainly didn’t factor in an old lady trying to reach the switch but would be worth giving it a try .I did the power switch thing and the best I can save is $67 a year so it’s not worth breaking my contract with Meridian - they claim losing my low user rebate wasn’t covered by my fixed price contract . My problem is small compared to my son with the sawmill he has also lost his rebates and his monthly bill has gone from $52,000 to $83,000 - he cuts timber for the local building market so he has a choice increase the price of timber or lay off a worker .The power companies are going to be reporting huge increases in profits - not sure what the legislation was supposed to achieve
I rang an insulation company because this house is not insulated but they assure me being Art Deco with a flat roof the only option is to put a pointy roof on which can’t be done because you can’t change an Art Deco - oh dear might go and have another slice of the chocolate cake she brought with her - she can bake a lovely cake that’s for sure

Phew, good to be home and out of the rain. Jan, we have that blanket type insulation in the roof and under the floor. Can't they put that in or is it because the workmen can't squeeze into the ceiling space? Our power bill was horrendous even with our son's staff discount but I suspect it was because last month was a 'guesstimate' and to be fair, I have been using the clothes dryer. Luckily I have made some advance payments so the balance isn't too bad.

I managed to stitch for an hour and a bit earlier this morning. The top wing has now been split in half. It won't take long to finish.

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 30-06-2022

morning ladies Smile The suns out for now so hopefully we can dry out a bit. Well done to the Hawkes Bay Magpies for taking the Ranfurly Shield from South Canterbury Smile over the weekend. You can bet when it's our turn to play for the Shield again we will be fighting for it Tongue And a good win over the Irish by the Maori All Blacks last night too.

Our daughter has pneumonia in the bottom half of her right lung. She's never had pneumonia before but said the antibiotics and pain killers are doing the trick and she should be well again to travel here in the first week of the holidays. So it's rest for her for a while.

Today I plan to spring clean the porch and entrance. It's mostly spiders I want to evict. Other than that it should be a fairly quiet day for us.

Happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 30-06-2022

Morning everyone

The sun is showing her face today.

Jan could they install that insulfluff into the roof. Its advertised on tv. They just drill a hole to blow it in and it fills the gaps.
Years ago we lived in a mobile home and had tank water and a gas califont for heating the water. You learn very quickly to have fast showers.. And every time the tank ran out it was me in there, to start with lol... So to this day I still have short sharp showers. And we pay for water here too so its a double pay off.

The freezer went last night, and they will take the other smaller one if I want to sell it. So I'm going to let them know yes they can have it. But on the weekend. They have a beast coming so need the extra room. So ill just transfer a few things and Ill only have the two newest ones. they have done us well. But one person doesn't need 4 freezers plus the one on the fridge. I haven't brought meat for quite a while now, and certainly no bulk buying lol.

The Rugby results were awesome !!

Im disgusted at what is happening in the US how they are now tracking women who are trying to find out more to get abortions etc. Its a breach of their privacy.. Its like they have gone back a couple of hundred years where women were second class citizens.

On the food hunt this morning.. Ohh fun lol..

Have a fab day everyone

Woken this morning by the council contractor bravely tackling the bamboo creeping from under the neighbours fence onto the reserve. I have been lopping off all new shoots as they appear but can't deal to the roots and the stumps. They must have annoyed the regular maintenance team because this guy has the heavy cutter out to do the job. I look forward to popping down to the gate to inspect the results later this morning when I am dressed and contact lensed enough to see! Meanwhile the tea is hot, the cat is curled up in the sun at my feet and life is good...

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 30-06-2022

Amazing how much brighter the walls look when cleaned Tongue I didn't think the entrance was that bad... oopps... my bad for being slack there.

Great the council is attacking the bamboo, OHH Big Grin I wonder if they could tackle my aggies lol.

Time for a cuppa before I tackle the porch. Windows are all open this morning and the sun is streaming in. Could easily think it was spring Tongue

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 30-06-2022

I found some ancient jars of chili jam in the pantry, too stiff to get out of the jars easily I took a spoon to them and dolloped the contents into the sink. Boy, that stuff was powerful, made my eyes water so much I had to drown it before I could bag it up for the rubbish.

Should keep any pests out of the bin till collection day!

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 30-06-2022

Good afternoon.

Stunning day here ... have had to open up the house and change into shorts/tee shirt after getting heated with the housework  ... lol, the cleaning vibe must have rubbed off KM Big Grin Nothing like having people coming to stay for motivation.

Thanks for the anti-slip fabric link Mica, have ordered some plus a few balls of merino wool to make the pp a bit more ''worthwhile"!

Might have a look how wet the garden is for a spot of weeding ... or not. At least will get out for a walk to enjoy the weather while it lasts.

Enjoy the rest of the day all.

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 30-06-2022

Absolutely stunning day here in the Bay .Just had a insulation expert here to look at my house - he gave Robie an option that sounded pretty drastic -he went away to do a quote as soon as he left the neighbour across the road who has a double story same style as mine can3 running across - told us not to touch the roof - he had the same bloke do his and his roof has continually leaked since the contractor removed parts of it to blow whatever it is in.I had noticed multiple times after heavy rain men working on the roof - as it is double story involves scaffolding etc - mine is only single story but we have decided not to take the risk - both Robie and I hate wasting resources like power but this is a really sound old house so I shall forgive it not being able to get itself up to date .I am just thanking my lucky stars I can pay the bill .I will get heavier drapes - Robie laughed when I said I would cruise the op shops but unless you look you will never know !

RE: You can never have enough... - Lilith7 - 30-06-2022

Yes Popeye - you really have to feel for American women now; I imagine that some will move from the more backward states to more liberal ones if they can, though some won't have the choice. And its all the worse when you consider that America was once the leading democracy in the western world.

Good luck with the Bamboo Hunni.

Its claiming to be 11 here but feels much colder today - was going to mow that back lawn but its still quite wet so might look again tomorrow.

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 30-06-2022

When I moved here I had to provide my own drapes, and found some perfect ones on TM for ten dollars. Professionally made, full length double lined with a flannel layer between cream cord and plain calico. When I got fed up with them after ten years and replaced the cream cord with the pretty drapes I have now I kept the linings and they are amazing insulation against all that glass. So I am a fan of decent drapes, especially considering this lot, including the new top layer have only cost me around fifty bucks over twelve years. That's a whole lot less than insulfluff or whatever!

Keep an eye on TM Jan, you never know what treasures you might find!

RE: You can never have enough... - JanW - 30-06-2022

Cheers Hunni I love a bargain hunt - my walls are all a very light dove grey so I am not restricted -

RE: You can never have enough... - Oh_hunnihunni - 30-06-2022

I should never have suggested it. My watchlist just got bigger, lol.

I do love fabric.

RE: You can never have enough... - popeye333 - 01-07-2022

Morning everyone

A dull wet cold day ahead me thinks.

Yeah I do feel for American females, I wont say women cos some of these people needing an abortion could stil be young girls with rapes, incest etc.
I hope to never be around if trump ever gets back in cos thats the sort of thing he would do too, To keep it that way.

I weighed and did photos for the last of my eyelash yarn yesterday to list on TM. Ill just keep plodding along thinning down things
Off to see MrP and Bobbie this morning. With the perfect timing of meeting MrPs previous carer as one of her clients Mothers is back into the same home. It will not do the management harm to know Im happy to take another lady under my wing.

It was soo nice seeing the other ladies on Wednesday finally being able to be in the dining/lounge. They were missing Bobbie so I told Bobbie to get her glad rags on , she could go visiting lol.

Im thinking of thinning down the cookbooks. Especially the larger ones. Might have a Nothing over $5 garage sale. that might draw in people.

Have a fab day everyone

RE: You can never have enough... - kiwimade64 - 01-07-2022

morning ladies Smile A fine morning this morning so the bed is stripped and sheets in the wash.

It's horrifying to think five people can change a well challenged law. And those five people lied when asked if they would change the law during their interviews. It's the thin edge of the wedge. If they can do this, what else can they do? I am so grateful to be living in NZ and hope there can be change in the States.

The porch and entrance is all shiny and sparkly with a good clean and the spiders were evicted. I'm going to tackle a wardrobe in a spare bedroom. Watching the Sort Your Life out programme has given me some ideas on how it could be better organised and made easier for the grandies to get to the Lego and the like. MrK said he will build me a low set of free standing shelves that will fit inside the wardrobe. I think this will make better use of the large amount of space under the hanging clothes. I bought a gorgeous black metal shoe organiser from TM years ago but this ended up in the entrance as it's narrow width was perfect for there. It does mean I have to find a new home for Dad's tool box and my house painting stuff. One thing leads to another...

I plan to make some time to stitch today. How's things going for you, Roma? I hope you are enjoying your new adventures with thread.

I love good fabric too, OHH. Just the feel of it makes me happy.

The clematis is in flower! It's the teeeeniest flower you have ever seen lol. About the size of a pin head. It was fully closed when I opened the curtains this morning and moved it into the sun. An hour later it was open Big Grin Big Grin Big Grin Can't wait for it to grow bigger so I can plant it outside but this is going to take a while.

happy crafting Smile

RE: You can never have enough... - Roma - 01-07-2022

Good afternoon.

Another lovely day with the birds chirping loudly out there  Smile

I haven't got into stitching yet KM ... just as far as sorting the colours to finish the cross stitch! Too many other knitting projects keep happening and now my baby blanket wool has arrived!

The chicken casserole sounds yum Mica, we are joining others at an Indian eatery tonight ... should be fun to dine out for a change.

Family catch up in the Waikato tomorrow,  hopefully a dry weekend ahead!

Enjoy your day all.
