Hmm, my "Question" pointing the fact out, along with another unanswered one, appears to have disappeared.  Wonder how that was done, unless the seller complained to TM, perhaps.

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 13-12-2023

I posted a question after reading this and it has also disappeared. As we know Trade Me facilitates fraud by its absence of action; its percentage is all that matters.

I've long thought the same.  Tell me - did you include a URL in your question?  I did, and wonder whether it was automatically deleted on those grounds.  If not, the seller must have complained for both our questions to have been removed.

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 15-12-2023

No URL. However advised an earlier underbidder of the concerns and was thanked. But the lot only went to $260.00 (glug). What one calls an unlucky dip. But found a really interesting set of feedback (after being outbid on an item).
The feedback on 'stumped6' (7) shows pages and pages of feedback with one seller namely 'philipjames' . Never seen anything like that before on Trade Me.

I wonder if there will be an answer to the question I placed on Rare Scottish Coin Listing # 4470207099.
Q: What is the denomination and age of this coin which is around 19 mm in diameter and under 3.0 g in weight?

Turners aren't exactly rare, though I see the prices even in Fine are creeping up now.  But in K grade (knackered) they wouldn't be worth a light.  Interesting cover letter, though.

aoteatreasures has '1619 Hungary Queen Matilda Silver Coin' Listing # 4469642339
I have asked Q: Who is this Queen Matilda that you refer to? No reply as yet.

Was there something about Holy Roman Emperor Matthias that they didn't tell us?

I like a bit of aggro it shows passion but am a bit offended by the Franklin Mint remarks. I own some quite nice proof sets from them!

I see stumped6 (7*) cleaned up on those ancient roman coins.

I was going to bid on one or two see if I could get a bargain but no chance!
(I wonder if Mr stumped6 and phillipjames know each other they seem to be on very familiar terms!?)

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 26-12-2023

If you check stumped6's feedback one will note that except for four other traders in his first year of 2013 to 2014 on TM every trade has been with the man who does not like the Franklin Mint. Nine years with only one seller and pages of trades. Never seen anything like it.
Even more strange was that aventine and mattman100 both bid on the same auction! I though mattman100 only listed aventine's items that he has reduced on his website at the original price on trade me.

I can access it now, for some reason.  I wonder what "superficialliy inferior" is meant to mean.  Looks worse at first glance, but isn't?

Bizarre - can't really get my head around the former.  Or the observation about mattman100 either, for that matter.

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 27-12-2023

Are you suggesting mattman100 and aventine are colluding? I don' t follow what is happening with the ancients on tradme so would not notice anything out of the ordinary. stumped6 and phillipjames might also be colluding although I can't see what the point would be? Money laundering? Tax avoidance? Seems far fetched. Some people are just a little odd, that is usually the explanation in most cases!

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 27-12-2023

I don't know the reason but it is happening, as a prominent example we have:-
GERMANY. Saxony. August as Elector of Saxony, 1569. Silver Taler Listing # 4486487943 Buy now: $1,499.99 Mattman100
GERMANY. Saxony. August as Elector of Saxony, 1569. Silver Taler. $1,499.99 -10% NZD $1,350.00 NZD Aventine website World Coins.
And the other coins that are reduced on the Aventine website lo and behold appear at the original price on mattman100's trade me listings.
Also of interest is that collectorman bought 70 of acw-nz's 1/2 price items; beats my 11 by a mile.

It's going to be a busy evening for me on Monday as I log the prices realised for medals online for the past week, it seems!

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 30-12-2023

EGYPT 2-1/2t MILLIEMES COIN 1933 KM 356 UNCIRCULATED Listing #4476652108 is a classic example of "gradeflation".
The line at the bottom of the Fez is incomplete so it is not even EF.

RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 30-12-2023

Yes grading standards have really dropped since the good old days. I blame the internet. I recently purchased a 1934 1/2crown (paid a fair amount for it as there were a couple of other high knowledge bidders after it). The thing that I first noticed about it was it had a different look to most of my other 1/2crowns. The obverse had an almost proof-like appearance. It wasn't a proof but I would have been almost fooled if I'd purchased it from a reputable dealer claiming it to be a proof. This I think shows that old coins in uncirculated or near uncirculated condition are actually quite rare, and if you do happen to get one then you will probably notice the difference. It will have that wow factor.
