Will be watching with interest to see what the mugs bid on the Chinese ones in particular. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 15-12-2022 Obviously the pair of antique Chinese coins were extremely valuable:- Bid history 75 bids Amount Date and Time Bidder $100.00 13 Dec, 8:10:26pm winniehj (33 ) $70.10 13 Dec, 8:10:16pm jennyjen88 (266 ) $69.10 13 Dec, 8:09:30pm winniehj (33 ) There appears to be a few "Quantum Leapers" like winniehj increasing a bid by $30. jacovnz usually does only $10 jumps. But I've had a second chance but regretfully I won't take advantage of this kind offer. The seller has offered you this item at $95.00. Haven't seen the "period" slanted milling on them before. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 04-01-2023 a few very rare and nice NZ proof sets if you are very rich! https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/lots?sort=numismatic_order&categories=1-11EWF&parent_category=1-11EIV&limit=36&lots_range=upcoming RE: TM Coin Club Thread - alpha111 - 08-01-2023 Happy New Year Dean and good luck collecting this year. These sets are way out of my league but who knows some may come back to New Zealand. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 09-01-2023 although these are stamps and not coins it does illustrate the importance for any auction of reading all descriptions and fine print before buying or bidding! https://www.ebay.com/itm/225271610824 https://www.ebay.com/itm/225250237467 https://www.ebay.com/itm/225294084332 (08-01-2023, 06:40 PM)alpha111 Wrote: Happy New Year Dean and good luck collecting this year. They really do belong in NZ, surely there is some rich prick who can bring them back home to NZ! RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 19-01-2023 prices realised for the NZ proofs, 1950 went for a quite a lot. 1939 3 pence went for a bit too! https://auctions.stacksbowers.com/auctions/3-10HQ93/january-2023-nyinc-auction-session-e-world-coins-part-3-europe-asia-north-america-oceania-africa-lots-23001-23592?limit=36&search=New+Zealand RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Roscoe - 22-01-2023 I have been looking at the coins for sale on the NZ Post website and quite a few of the coins are marked "sold out." And it is noticeable that the sold out coins are some of the most expensive. For example the 2022 Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee 1oz gold proof coin is at $4,199 and other coins of a similar price. It seems that there are many people who have the funds to make such a purchase whereas the cheaper coins at about $400 do not move as quickly as the dearer coins. So it seems the cheaper coins are the slower movers as people with what might be termed the average wage cannot afford $4,000 or $8,000. Interesting I thought. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Kenj - 22-01-2023 More logical than interesting I think? Probably the only big investment the less well off will ever make. Rolls Royce cars are slow movers as well. On the mule and the HK coin, the cross on top of the crown points between rim dots, whereas on the Malaya coin it points to a dot, which seems conclusive - unless the BRM used multiple different dies for both circulating coins and my sample of one of each is just too small :-) RE: TM Coin Club Thread - translateltd - 04-02-2023 (03-02-2023, 09:59 AM)translateltd Wrote:(13-11-2022, 08:13 AM)Dean Wrote: Although the dates should be enough of a giveaway, really. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - translateltd - 06-02-2023 And yet it turns out that "Malaya and British Borneo" as a numismatic entity didn't expire until 1967, when Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia introduced their own coinages. The "Malaya Currency Board" continued through to that year. RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 06-02-2023 I'd say Robert Pepping's observation is actually fairly definitive. It very likely is muled with the HK coin, and would require actual evidence to the contrary before considering possibility of BB mule. Wonder how the BB theory even started? RE: TM Coin Club Thread - Dean - 06-02-2023 I mentioned the very high prices obtained for some graded coins on ebay a few posts ago. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=New+Zeland&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_udlo=&_udhi=&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_fss=1&_fsradio=%26LH_SpecificSeller%3D1&_saslop=1&_sasl=jkcoins&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=240&LH_Complete=1 one coin in particular caught my attention. And not just because of the insane price. https://www.ebay.com/itm/225370391044 it looked kind of familiar to the 'display' coin on the pcgs website. https://www.pcgs.com/valueview/3-pence/1942-3d/202299?sn=534105&g=67&h= I managed to locate its certification number via the pcgs regsitry https://www.pcgs.com/setregistry/mycoinfacts/1942/2169091/110655 here it is https://www.pcgs.com/cert/33791322 so the same coin with different certification numbers? or are they actually very similar but different coins? here's the pcgs page for the ebay coin (does not have photo picture) https://www.pcgs.com/cert/03561071 RE: TM Coin Club Thread - translateltd - 09-02-2023 (06-02-2023, 11:36 AM)Dean Wrote: I'd say Robert Pepping's observation is actually fairly definitive. It very likely is muled with the HK coin, and would require actual evidence to the contrary before considering possibility of BB mule. Wonder how the BB theory even started? When the coin was sold in 1991 it came with "documentation from the Royal Mint" - that may have mentioned the MBB die possibility. Nobles have said Malaya all along. Given that we're working with a sample of only 1 coin of each type for comparison, it's still possible that a different version of the colonial die with the effigy, and thus the cross on the crown, rotated a fraction of a degree, was used on some MBB coins as well as the HK ones. For a total MBB 1961 5c mintage of about 90 million spread over six years they must have used anywhere up to 1000 dies (assuming a run of 100,000 per die), and those might in turn have come from different master versions. I'm putting a request in the next Num. Soc. of Auckland "Mintmark" for anyone with a 1961 MBB 5c to check the cross position for me if at all possible. This one is niggling me now. |
