Proper auctions - yousnoozeyoulose - 14-11-2021

Love a good in-the-room auction (or in these times, point-and-click), so will link through to them when something good comes up.

Collectibles auction at Smiths in Chch this week.

Good range of stuff. Plenty of cameras. Anything take your fancy?

We have a similar auction house in Dunedin - they used to do physical auctions, until covid struck. Now, you can visit to check items out, but bidding is online.

Spent many an hour at Dunbar Sloane in Wellington, occasionally getting a bargain, but also working out who were the resellers on Trade Me. Was always amusing seeing a familiar lot popping up on TM after a day or two.

Years ago, I bid on a camera lot at Haywards, and dropped out at $100. A dealer bought the lot, and put it on TM, the lenses separate from the camera. He was looking for over $300 for everything (he paid $110+ commission). The auction was relisted mutiple times, with different combinations, until he eventually put the complete lot on TM for $80 buy now. I bought it then...

Shining a light this week on the Heritage Art Auctions out of Whanganui, started by NBR founder Henry Newrick. A real mixture of stuff for this one. A likely Frances Hodgkins, quite a few prints, photographs, a bunch of cartoons, books, etc. Probably a bit too much chocolate box art by unknowns for my taste, but there's always a diamond in the rough to be uncovered.
