File recovery
#1
Has something in file system changed in Win10/11?  Used to be able to recover a deleted file if the part of the hdd that holds the file wasn't overwritten.

I just did a few test.  I had 2 jpg file, I delete one of them using shift-del and the other one I cut the file & paste it to an USB drive.

I immediately ran a few recovery software which they can see the deleted files, but all said the chances to recover them are low.  And the jpg file won't open at all after recovery.

Any ideas?  Or if someone has some file recovery software on hand, can they please try and see if that's the case?  Or is there a good file recovery software that you guys know that's good?  I've tried R-Undelete, Disk Drill.

Thanks

photorec/test disk are my gotos for recovering badly lost data, if you like a GUI, Recuva does a reasonable job

Another I also use a bit is Shadow explorer, which can recover files from system restore points
https://www.shadowexplorer.com/downloads.html

But also keep in mind if you have only just deleted a file you can CTRL Z to undo, and I believe 10 had an undo button in explorer.
Also if you have a backup drive plugged in you can make use of filehistory to give some better backup options than simply trying to recover data...
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.
