Tailgate Boot Strut replacement
#1
I need to replace the tailgate boot struts of my old 2003 Toyota Corolla RUNX

I have phoned around to look for the replacement part but unfortunately, couldn't find one with exactly length.
Went to Repco this morning, gave him my Registration No. and he sold me a set of struts. But, to my disappointment, they are of different length - it's 70mm longer than my old (existing) strut.
Do you think that it should be OK?  or it won't work, return it to Repco?

Do I need to get the exact length, or approx length should be fine?

I couldn't get the exact part number as the printed number has faded, cannot be read.

Cheers

not a car expert here but I would imagine the longer ones would just open up a little bit further/higher - the only risk would be to the top edge of the roof by the hinges would it not?

If it's not a big job to install them you could just try it and carefully open it up first time around while monitoring how far it lifts
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Returned to Repco and got the refund.
Problem now is, not easy to find a replacement.
Been to Supercheap Auto, no, they don't have it.
Can't get the original Part Number as the print has faded and not readable.
AliExpress has quite a few listings, but they have no exact measurements and I have no Part Number!

Any suggestions?

Can you find things like the VIN number or chassis number? If so supply them to Toyota and they might be able to help. Second hand will probably fail in a short time. If you can't get the part you need, try a suitably cut boom handle as a prop.

I would recommend https://www.amayama.com/en
I buy most of my parts there, the prices are pretty good and they are OEM so good quality.
