Windows 11 auto updating
#1
I updated to Win11 24H2 about a week ago and it works OK.

But, this morning when I turned ON my computer,  the Windows Updating process cuts in and I had to wait for quite a few minutes for it to complete the restarting/updating.

Checked my Updates History, it's the following update:
"2025-08 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5063878) (26100.4946)"  Successfully installed on 13/08/25.

How do I turn OFF the auto update?

In the Windows Update window, "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available"  is 'OFF'.

Please enlighten me.   Thanks.

You can Pause Windows updates for upto 5 weeks. TO do so, open Updates, Click on Pause - to the right is a drop down box, select the time.

The Problem is when they restart you will be flooded with upto 5 weeks worth.

If you have gpedit installed ( Professional) Or install it, you can adjust there as well, BUT sometimes windows has a habit of over riding these settings, but the 1-5 weeks option does work as intended.

If you still want them to download but not reboot automatically or such you can adjust in GPEDIT ( as mentioned needs Professional) OR you install GPEDIT  in Windows Home editions. Have to do that for sorting out  folder sharing on Windows home with no user passwords.

 Options GPEDIT
