Setting up Facebook on new Tablet
#1
I have got myself in a bit of a tangle and would appreciate some help.

I have Facebook and Messenger on an old tablet and also on my PC.

I am trying to also set them up on a new Tablet and have ended up with an account in the name of another person which I can access.

Followed all the Facebook requests but to no avail. Any suggestions as to how I should proceed. Unfortunately I cannot recall the password I used
to setup Facebook some time ago.

The account in the name of another person which you can access?

Is this an account you set up?
Is this someone you know?
Is this the account you have been using on the old tablet/PC?

On the PC you can find the actual email/phone number of the account you're logged into, from
The account profile menu top right
Settings & Privacy
Settings
Personal Details on the left
Personal Details again on the left

The account was setup accidently when I followed the information from Facebook. I typed in what I thought was my password  and they came up with  "Rosalita Amis"
which I didn't notice and must have confirmed it. Old age is catching up I am afraid. I don't know this person. I searched on line for this person and it that account came does come up. I have uninstalled Facebook from the new tablet but I guess when I reinstall it I will be in the same position. Not sure how to proceed. Just to add that this account has nothing to do with the account I use on my old Tablet or on the PC. I just wanted to use the new tablet with the current account.

I presume there is no way I can see the password that I am using for facebook at present, and if I set up another account I will loose everything.?

you can just sign out of the account if you are sure it is not yours -  must of been a heck of a good guess to get signed into someone else's account, and slightly worrying about the quality of Facebook security protocols...

Then sign in with your correct account.

on your PC it is possible, if the browser is storing the password and signing you in... Unlikely on tablets and phones...

What browser are you using on the PC for Facebook?

My problem is that I am not sure what my password is to change it. I presume I could just start again with a new account. When I came up with this "Roaslita Amis" I
found what I thought my Facebook password was and it looks as though it is a password for this Amis person. It was quite a long password also.

I am using Firefox browser.

so from the Firefox main menu, top right, click on passwords.

use the search box to find facebook, hopefully you will find a password for FB in there

Nothing there for Firefox. Thanks for trying to help. I still can't believe a large generated password got into the Facebook account of someone else.

yeah it seems unlikely doesn't it...

you could try password recovery tools, this one is one I use from time to time
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/web_browser_password.html
or
https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/passwordfox.html

But be warned, you will need to disable most Antivirus and security software to download it.  It is not malicious but does recover passwords hence why AVs go nuts

I think that might be a bit too stressful for this old guy. I presume a computer technician would be able to recover my present Facebook password, which I could use on my
new tablet. That should sort out my problem.?           Wainuitech might comment if he sees this post.

You are saying Firefox but it should be a Facebook password you are looking for in the Firefox Passwords section.

Not sure if you have already tried this.
Try to log on to Facebook, on your pc.
If it does log you on, then go to change password and follow the instructions there.
If you can't log on, then go through the lost or forgotten password route.
Either way will get you a new password.
Then you can log on your new device.

No haven't tried that. I am logged onto Facebook on my PC and also old Tablet. I couldn"t see a "change password" option. Unfortunately, I will need to quote my

present password before I can change it. I think I will have to call in a tech to sort it out for me. Thanks for trying to help.

I'm not a facebook user, but I would assume, if you were to log out and then try to log back in, you wouldn't be able to.
Then you go down the forgotten password route.
You would then be sent an email to enable you to set a new password.

Be careful logging out - Seen it happen many times you log out and cant get back in, esp if the password is forgotten.

You say you are using Firefox, BUT is it the Facebook App you are using or going in Via the Browser. If the App actually uses microsoft Edge to work. so the password may be there.

"IF" you did use Firefox, and it auto logs in, following what  King1 posted, this is what you would see. ( obviously I've removed my details) but the Eye ( arrow) shows what the actual Password is.

Edited BTW- the dots dont actually show the amount of letters / Numbers, my password is almost double the amount of dots.

I am using the Firefox Browser on my PC so my present Tab s2 will be also. I don't know much about Facebook, it was a family idea. I presume a technician will be

able to find out my present password so that I can use it on my new tablet or change it if necessary? I am mindful of your comments about logging out and not being able to get

back in.  If necessary can't you just set up another account. It would have been much easier if I had just transferred everything from my old tablet to the new one,

but I didn't want a lot of the old stuff on the new one. I have made life difficult for myself.
