Bidbuds days are over
#1
Sad
Just noticed I was unable to place a bid through bidbud and got the message that the auction was unable to have a bid placed on it due to changes TM is rolling out.
Dont know if another developer will take over the project or develop something else entirely, but it was a useful app to have.
Looks to me that TM is changing their API or something.

from the FAQ on the site it doesn't seem like the dev has much time/interest in updating... and would probably be a huge learning curve for anyone who wanted to take it over
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Thats probably what TM want at the end of the day.
I know they placed some restrictions on their API use that Bidbud was making use of and some features were removed early in the day.
From what i gather, it was only possible once TM introduced the API that interfaced with their website.

well, thats a shame. i use bidbud quite often for bidding. i trust them more than the trademe autobid. i hope someone else takes over, or the developer decides to keep it up.

Trademe's autobid was seriously playing up recently, and I lost a purchase as a result. When I pointed the incident out to TM on the community posts I found examples of other members having had the same issue. In my case the auction closed on my winning bid, the 'other options available soon' banner came up and then the competing bidder placed another bid that went through. When that happened twice more I dropped out through sheer frustration. The funny thing was the TM response, I got an email requesting details of the actual auction, which I gave because I had checked already, and the timeline showed the weirdness. A day or so passed and TM emailed again to tell me I was mistaken, their timeline showed no problem.

Uh huh.

I don't believe in fighting city hall on minor battles I know I can't win, but I know what I saw, and I am no novice when it comes to TM auctions. Not after all these years. So, I don't trust autobid any more either. Doesn't mean I won't use it. But I won't make assumptions about wins either...

From Trade Me's perspective that situation increases the final selling price so also their success fees. They have reason to not correct the issue based on that logic.

I wonder if crowdfunding for a developer to continue the project is an option?

Used it last night, and one today. Interesting, as I love it, Shame if it's going to die.

Ok, so it's still working OK for you?
I need to take a look again, seems it's only disabled on some categories for now.

These update measures TM is doing are bad news for ordinary listings, 'some features are temporarily unavailable' is dead right. Very frustrating. No wonder the site is fading fast.

I imagine there is probably not a lot of incentive for someone to (re)develop it given the declining number of users on trademe now...
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.
