email a/c in new Outlook Win11

Been backed into a corner and forced to update to new mail / outlook account. I have tried to set up a SMTP account using my ISP (Slingshot) without success, each time I am told that it is wrong. I would love some help here as Slingshot can not or will not help me and Microsoft when called refer me to the internet. Both are blind alleys.

Using Windows 11 home latest edition. I have successfully set up two outlook accounts, but my Slingshot account eludes me.   Angry

Also, I have tried my previous account (ruup) but it will not let me log in, any thoughts appreciated.

what email program are you using?

Outlook web app?
Outlook (new) - built in to 11
Outlook Desktop app - part of MS Office

According to Slingshot, their settings are:

https://help.slingshot.co.nz/hc/en-us/ar...-or-device

1st thing you need to do is check you have the correct details, log into the web mail, once you know they are correct then you can setup the email on W11. Almost Guarantee you'll have to manually enter slingshot details, as outlook wont have a clue what the settings are ( by default).

https://webmail.slingshot.co.nz/

When you need to enter in the details, go to your Email Accounts, Add account - Scroll down to the very bottom of the window, click Advanced Setup ( see picture 1)

Then click on Internet Mail - Then you'll be able to manually enter Slingshots Settings. ( suggest you use the SSL options)

Thanks for your help kind people. Sadly it is not possible currently to use this software with Slingshot. So until Microsoft deem it worth while to make their crappy software to work I will and others wishing to use STMP will have to wait. To get around the problem I installed, Outlook from my old 2010 office disc, installed instantly with no issues. Funny how the latest is not always the greatest. Thanks again for your help.

Don't know where you got this information from but email settings are all standards based, there is no difference between slingshot and any other pop or imap email provider, and I know the desktop versions of Outlook both support IMAP and POP.

But I would do as wainuitech suggested and try the webmail link he provided for slingshot.  This is important as it verifies you are using the correct login credentials ie username and password.

The only comment I would make about the slingshot settings nowadays pretty much every mail program will try to use SSL or if setting up manually you should specifically select and use SSL and you should always tick the box about authentication required for the outgoing mail SMTP server

If you want to try a different email program then you can't go wrong with Mozilla Thunderbird - free to use, no strings...

Errrr YES you can -- Did you read all of what I wrote. There's two ways.

As I posted ( see Picture)

OR if you do via The email Client ( Outlook-New) This method does work better (2nd Picture)

Open the Outlook mail you have working - On the left Click Add Account, Type in your Slingshot account -- When it asks for a password enter it then - Click on Show More ( see Picture) All your settings are available, port numbers, IMAP, and SMTP you name it. I just made up a fake account to get the pictures, obviously, no password so couldn't finish, it actually automatically filled in Slingshots details. as per the 2nd picture.

I think what is happening is that it is not using a direct connection to slingshots mail servers but proxying them via Microsoft ie MS is connecting and getting your mail and then MS is delivering them to the Outlook app...

Like I say I have done this before in that app with IMAP, but it must have worked then. I tried mine just now and I have the same issue you do. This way just introduces another point of failure but I am sure MS have a nice commercial reason for doing it this way...

Use Thunderbird linked above, it works well...

Weird, Must just be a slingshot problem !!

Connected a few Xtra accounts with no problems. To be honest, thought Slingshot had closed down LOL

I know last time (many moons ago) when a customer had a slingshot email problem their help was as useless as a tissue in a rain storm. They ended up changing to Outlook.com, or gmail, cant remember now.

Another Free email program is EMClient.

That's the Free Version ( limited to Two) - if you want more you need to buy it.

This (new) outlook is a piece of crap, ive found some accounts no longer work on it, doesnt matter if you are running on IMAP or POP3, double checked all the port settings, etc, still no go.
Trustpower(mercury) email accounts in particular have been causing a headache, i can only assume there is some sort of incompatibility with the encryption standard or authentication methods, not sure.
I am just switching everyone to thunderbird now. Works first pop (no pun intended)
