The reason this is such a very bad country to be a racist in is that we've intermarried so much that you really cannot tell from looking at us who has Maori ancestry, & of course you certainly can't tell who has Maori descendants.
Which is not to say that we have no racists; it seems that every country has its share of idiots & we are no exception.
Time we taught empathy in every school...

We boomers had great music.
Seymour is gaslighting us. Stupid boy, he needs to realise his 8.64% of the overall vote does not entitle him to be the boss, the tail does not wag the dog. Something Mr Luxon could do with remembering too. Be nice to see that man exercise a little of the passion Hana demonstrated in the House. Putting Seymour in his place would be a good start.
Yep, our generation definitely had the best music.
I really don't think Seymour does passion.
I'm not sure that Luxon will rein him in, it could result in a tantrum from Seymour & he might retaliate by creating difficulties which might cause the cobbled together govt to develop wobbles.

Really? You mean the two hangers on might bring down the government?
Oh noes! Dear me, how sad, never mind. I'm starting to feel quite optimistic. Do you think the bish might be encouraged to join in the fun? Mind you, he might have to do so from prison. What a thought.
Make that a lot optimistic.

The PM will be happy to string this out as long as possible, even until the next election... At that point he doesn't have to care if Seymour is happy or not...

I am very disappointed by the response to the haka in Parliament. Do our leaders not understand that a haka is a passionate expression of emotion, not necessarily a war dance, not necessarily an aggressive move. If it was why would we see it at funerals? At welcomes? At celebratory greetings to heroes?
Why should an emotional, passionate response to a proposed piece of legislation that is designed to rewrite what is to many of us a sacred document be ridiculed and humphed at by a bunch of old white guys in suits just because their own ignorance lets them see a challenge as illegitimate?
The sooner this corrupt, out of touch, elderly wannabe statesmen go back to where they came from the better. If they are not prepared to listen to the people they were elected to represent, they have no place in government.

Very much agree - there was absolutely NO need for those comments, & presumably those making them can't possibly be that ill informed, which really shows the comments to be what they are; spiteful attempts at wielding power over those who are standing for what they believe in, & perhaps a smidgeon of jealousy, given how well received & supported the Hikoi has been.

To hark back to the marriage analogy from earlier it's also worth considering that spouse B is perhaps attempting to rewrite the prenup agreement to ensure he or she gets maximum gain when they dissolve their joint assets once the kids leave home.
Seymour is not embarking on this strategy out of the goodness of his heart or the benefit of Mum & Dad Kiwi. He is working to remove impediments to selling off the most lucrative bits of our country at the direction of his overlords. Maori have never regarded ownership of our land and environment in the same way as the colonists and the Treaty was formulated and put in place in light of that. They know fully well that rewriting of that document's passages is a dilution of its original intent and an attempt to pilfer that which is owned by all NZers. All power to them and all those that stand in ACT's way on this.

Indeed.
"Goodness of his heart" - fairly sure that does not & likely cannot, apply in his case.
The only comfort is that he & his mates must have got one hell of a shock at the massive reaction.

And those on the hikoi represent a whole lot more rather cross New Zealanders.

There was also a massive protest across the ditch, in Perth.

They didn't say how many but it looked to be a large crowd - well done them.

Maybe influenced by the opportunities in oil & gas, and heavy engineering associated with O&G and mining, there was enough Taranaki expats in Perth for Taranaki Anniversary Day to be celebrated by those in the Perth community a couple of decades back. Living on sand between the desert and the Indian Ocean didn't appeal to me but my brother has been there for >30 years and has an Aussie wife and kids who call it home.
