meat industry results make grim reading

We are loosing farms fast to unworkable regulations and pine trees.
This is serious, because our economy depends on agriculture.

that article seems to suggest the "Grim Reading" is due to too much debt overhead, lack of maintenance of plant and machinery, and a need for cost cutting in response to reducing demand.

Nothing about unworkable regulations and a cursory mention of pine trees adding to supply side problems - surely you must have been reading a different article completely
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

What about the solar farms ? !!! There is one going in at Rangiriri at the moment - all that beautiful farmland going to waste ! It was just a maize paddock, they will make more money out of it with power than maize.

Well set up solar farms allow for grazing underneath the panels...

It wasn't a grazing paddock, it was maize/silage...maybe a few cows sometimes. I was reading a debate about solar farms and why the locations, and someone asked why they didn't use carparks like other countries do. The mouth of the solar farm company said they need to put them close to power infrastructure - ah, why not the Countdown carpark in Huntly ? Can't get closer than that. Silence.

Why not the tops of bus shelters and stations? Why not the tops of pensioner flats?

Like this one, lol...

No imagination some people!

Btw, any paddock can be grazed, it just needs grass. Big Grin

Yes, any paddock can have grazing animals, but here in dairy Waikato with a lot of flat land, some paddocks just do a maize/silage cycle every year, they are never grazed.

Perhaps a part of it is also that more people are becoming vegetarian or vegan, especially in Europe?
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)
