A woman has been apparently using a phone box to shelter in.
Good grief - is this still NZ?

But no doubt the Neo Liberals are happy...

Yup, that pic was first posted on the Taupo community farcebook page a month or so back. One place I would not like to be homeless in winter would be my lovely Taupo.
You could die of hypothermia overnight down there..

You'd think our delightful govt might just get off their collective ar*ses & set about fixing the situation...
Oh but wait; that might help the peasants.

The country got this way by small increments. The Government is happy enough; there is nothing to fix.

I'm hoping they'll be a one term govt; halting pay equity should almost be enough by itself but if not, there are plenty of other things they've done. A four year term would be disastrous!

The racism thing should be enough. It is becoming more in your face every day. And it is going against social trends, which our government should be reflecting, not denying.

I cannot fathom why people vote for them in the first place.
Must have very short memories.

I feel like we need a two tier system, a Government in NZ has too much power to royally fuck things up long term because of their own selfish motives (cue the anti-Jacinda brigade)...
I would envisage restricting the powers of the 3 yearly elected government to day to day running of the country and have a higher level governance structure that is cross party and sole focus is long term issues such as infrastructure, long term policy etc
I'll work out the details and let the PM know it's kicking in next week...

I don't like their chances of removing Maori language; that train left the station already, when Maori words became a part of everyday language in this country. Whanau is perhaps the most well known but there others.
They've become quite blatant about their racism & with any sort of luck, that may well be their undoing, especially with all the other shyte they've pulled.
The reason I oppose a four year term is that those b'stards manage to do more than enough damage as it is, in three years.

In Dunedin, there is a homeless camp at the back of the Oval. The southern motorway runs along there, and there is a bank, with trees, sloping down to the sports ground. There are usually 5 or 6 tents there. It must be cold there...
The star shows where the camp is.
I do have other cameras!

One thing though, planners of all colours rarely research the needs and wants with the very people they are planning for. Our lot for instance, council land, KO build, Haumaru manage new housing development for older adults. A multistoried block of apartments.
I know it's sensible, but I know a lot of older adults and not one of them would prefer a multistory apartment block home over a small ground level flat with a bit of garden.
We're strange like that.
And I guess long term homeless too have their own ideas about the home they'd like to move into. But no one asks...

And lifts that don't work in emergencies. 'But it's okay. There are safe rooms on each floor'. Uh huh.

It really is disgraceful. There shoiuld be NO homeless people, not here & not anywhere in the world.
What the hell is wrong with our species that we can allow greed to run riot to this extent.
And it wasn't always like this here, & it doesn't have to be like this.

We also, as a result of idiotic 'planning' now have streets here with cars parked along the sides because greedy developers don't leave space to park cars on new builds; nor is there space for even a small garden & nowhere for kids to play.
I hate passing parked cars on the bike because I once saw a horrific accident when a driver opened his door withoiut looking & a cyclist slammed into it; there was no way she could have stopped in time.
