CPU Benchmarks
#1
Long been my goto for comparing CPU performance but this I find hard to interpret

Benchmarks ranging from 10,000 to over 20,000

How is that now meaningful?

Higher is better, those numbers dont mean much on their own, its really only a reference when you compare to another CPU or two, even better is look at the chart and see where it stacks up.
Also something thats easy to overlook is the single thread rating, they should make that a bit clearer and perhaps show both ratings together side by side perhaps?
There is quite a notable difference with single thread ratings between AMD and Intel, and some applications only benefit from single thread performance, so can be quite important.

but how can there be such a wide range given they are all the same chip? some variance is expected but the flat distribution makes it pretty hit or miss as to whether you get a good one or a crap one.

Compare that one with the distribution of an i7 7700k

I'm thinking it must be something to do with the new efficiency cores they have in some of the CPUs

Ok got ya, looking at that data i suspect that its different hardware configurations that are affecting those results.
Makes me wonder if higher end systems with lower latency memory may be a factor on all of this?
Its not really reliable to compare so many submitted results when there can be so many factors at play in configuration, there is more of a wider variance than whats typical.
It is interesting that there is quite a spike towards the end of 20,000.
Perhaps if they had more data submitted, it might be more accurate, but you should see a spike on the chart, my 4790K has the same peak showing too.
Perhaps this is because its an older CPU and they have more data available?
