I think it takes a certain level of courage to deal with a terminal diagnosis and treatment as a tv special. Before that I pretty much ignored him. But that special was a good watch. Authentic.
There's that word again.

And he's managed to do some good with it, by making it public & encouraging others to get checked.

Education is a benefit of our media age. For better and worse... Just as my Victorian grandfather predicted in his diary, opining on the advent of television...

He is right though, Billy T was something special. His name is the first when I think of comedians...
I think it was his lack of ego.

Oh yes, the inimitiable Fred Dagg. Loved him.
And not just because my maternal grandmother was a Dagg.

John Clarke's lasting contribution was Clarke & Dawe, the series of political satires which were so prescient that they come to mind every time I hear a press conference by the present PM or many of his Ministers. Todd McLay's presentation and delivery are a dead ringer for Clarke as PM. The most famous sketch is "The Front Fell Off" but all of them were hilarious.

Yes John Clarke was brilliant. We have no lack of comedians here & they sometimes turn up on that Aussie programme, Thank God You're Here which has just finished. I've seen Urzila Carlson, Guy Montgomery & Mel Bracewell on that so far.

Oscar is pretty funny. Same lack of ego. We New Zealanders do enjoy a bit of self deprecating humour.
