Audio playlist software
#1
Seems that we have a few IT savvy peoples around here.

I've been putting together a music list for an event I'm organising in a couple of weeks. I have somewhere around 1,000 CD albums ripped to my HD from which I've copied a selection of music suited to the attendees to a file. Original format is WMA but I'm able to convert to mp3 if required.

The problem I'm having is that using Windows Media Player is that the functionality is pretty ropey and the playlist I've compiled needs some editing and WMP is doing some pretty random shit in this regard.

What I'm after is something that will allow me to have a reliable file that is ready to play from my laptop into the venue's audio system. What's going to suit my purposes?

I've done that in the past streaming a Spotify playlist that I put together for the occasion.

A lot of the music I have wouldn't be available on Spotify, or would at least entail a lot of faffing around finding it. I already have the music I require but just need an elegant way to make play how I want it. Selecting extra tracks, deleting others and putting the tracks in order.

VLC is an old school looking media player that plays just about anything - i know with that you can create your playlist and save it to a file, might do what you need. Another is Pot player

This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

Winamp is still around as another alternative, not as simple as it used to be but still decent IMO

Thanks heaps for that. Seems to do most of what I'm after in a pretty user friendly package. Added bonus is the total play time for the tracks I've loaded which does away with a lot of faffing around, or guesstimating.

One player used myself a few months back, is 1by1 Directory Player. Had to make up quite a long selection of music, and depending on the mood you simply can drag files to a different position, add whil ethe list is playing, delete if required, takes a bit of learning but very versatile. https://mpesch3.de/1by1.html
