It's not the least charm of a theory that it is refutable. The hundred-times-refuted theory of "free will" owes its persistence to this charm alone; some one is always appearing who feels himself strong enough to refute it - Friedrich Nietzsche

For an allegedly intelligent species, we can be incredibly stupid. Surely we can find some way to cut the noise.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

A way of avoiding reality is to ignore it and be busy with other priorities.

The problem is not only military based sonar but also seismic oil exploration surveys and the low frequency audio footprint of large cargo vessels. Describing the issue as one of "stupidity" should more accurately be one of wilful ignorance. Truly disappointing how the quest to maximise human's economic or military advantage trumps the wellbeing of the sea's creatures.
