Means testing superannuation would save heaps. Probably pay for school lunches and breaking the ferry contract.

Indeed, that & making it impossible for the wealthy & big businesses - Sanitarium for example,  to avoid paying their fair share of taxes. Those  two thing would make a massive difference & provide a fair bit of funding.

Providing any govt can be trusted to use it wisely...

Which is why transparency, true transparency, is so important.

And so hard to find.

I don't see why there can't be a subsidised tax rate for charities, say 15%, rather than the standard tax rate.

or a scale of tax rates 5,10,15,20,25 percent etc
They get a lower rate based on the amount of demonstrable good they do in the community
This world would be a perfect place if it wasn't for the people.

That's interesting - saying that PM's should be given the same lunches. Pat Newman, a sch\ool principal said that politicians wouldn't be so casual about it, if they had to live on them for a few months.
"I think we should just go ahead & swap the budgets, & the MP's get the $3 a meal budgets the kids are on & the kids get the MP lunch budgets & then we can see how quickly things turn around."
