New build occasional Bluescreens
#21
I got a bit ahead of myself and didn't wait to see if running one stick of RAM was stable before trying something else. I have also updated the firmware of the SSD after seeing some people had similar issues in handheld devices. Been stable for 2 days now with expo enabled in single channel mode. If it doesn't crash tonight I think I'll go back to dual channel to see if it's the memory or ssd that's made a difference.

Update, the first RAM stick stayed stable with Expo enabled all week so after work friday I swapped them and... 2 bluescreens in 2 days with page fault errors.
Going to contact the supplier and see what they say.

have you run memtest on it? that will soon tell you if the memory stick is faulty

Yes, can't fault it with memtest. both the standalone bootable one and windows in built test pass just fine. Left it running all day.

I had a laptop once that was like that.
Memtest was totally fine.
Windows BSOD within minutes.

Replacing the RAM fixed it.

weird, maybe for certainty you could run them again for a few days individually, just to make sure its reproducible.  A bit more ammunition can't hurt

Have sent a message to PBTech and am waiting for an answer.
Been going at this for a while now and am fairly certain it's the RAM but without spare parts it's never going to be 100% certain.

Given 5 days stable in single channel mode with one RAM stick and 2 crashes in 2 days with the other in the same slot with the same settings I'll be shocked if it's not the issue.

Currently back on the first stick in sjngle channel mode again and it'll stay like this until I get replacement RAM or it crashes again. Might end up sucking it up and getting new RAM from the QVL list. I don't think I could sell this RAM in good conscience though.

Blow out the RAM slots on motherboard with compressed air, wipe the RAM pcb connections with CO2 cleaner observing anti static precautions.

There can be some very rare incompatibility issues where a memtest will pass fine, but still cause windows to crash. It probably would pay to leave testing for a bit more than 24 hours or more however.

So hopefully Final update, Replaced the RAM with a kit from the QVL list and it's been 3 days with Expo enabled and no crashes.
The original RAM is currently with PBtech being assessed to see if they'll replace it under warranty.

They are usually quite good to look after you in these situations, it appears your memory may have been incompatible rather than faulty.
