Must've been really impossible to keep all of them safe considering the amount of war demolition going on in the area. But no doubt Israel knew that.
About the protests - I see there is a PSA going out to remind protesters who see violence to sit down immediately, to leave those involved standing, and obvious. This follows information received that deliberate provocations are being planned by those with other agendas.
Bit like that story that suggests Mossad was not only aware of the planned Hamas attack back in October, but supported and participated. In the end perhaps it comes down to who has the most to lose in battles like these...
