I grow mine in glass vases. I was given one as a small offshoot from a bigger plant. It is a green and white form, but I have younger solid green plants as well in the jungle collection that I bought as babies from Kings. The vases have potting mix in the bottom, and I fill each with water to about an inch above the soil level and keep it topped up. Occasionally I drop in a swish of liquid ferts and keep them in a draft free area with medium light exposure. The biggest one currently has three flowers and several offshoots. It will need splitting up probably this coming winter.
They like bog conditions, but need their leaves in the air - try it and see if water culture works for you.

I would like to try your method but I thought they needed to dry out between waterings. Growing in glass vases would ensure they are out of draughty conditions. Thanks

Yes, it is the common advisory. But aquarium keepers have used peace lilies for years as one of the plant choices for the top layer of a bio filter set up, roots in the tank, foliage above, without issue. That is how I learned about water culture and adapted it for most of my indoor plants. They seem to adapt easily and survive well. My big peace lily is now in its third year with no problems.
I also grow pothos hybrids, philodendrons, dracaena, and a couple of other species the same way. And some of those are seriously big plants now. I'm trialing an orchid now, for the fun of it. It was a rescue, well on the way out but has new root tips and is looking very healthy. I have my fingers crossed for flowers... |
