morning ladies We have a stunning day today, perfect with sunshine and light wind.

Thank you for the birthday wishes. It was a mad start to the morning. MrK no longer has signals to his bladder and has accidents. And no washing machine meant a mad dash back to the laundromat. This no signal business started yesterday. We have an appointment to see our doctor on Wednesday (made weeks ago), but it may mean a trip to A & E shortly. We'll see how he feels. We suspect it is all to do with the nerve damage around his back and hip.

Anyhoo, I might spend a bit of time in the garden weeding. The ground will be cold after our first frost of the season this morning.

No weeding so far, my friend offered me her washing machine again, so another load went through.

A second police car has gone by with lights and sirens on. This road is nuts. The sooner the new SH29 is built and this road stops being a main highway, the better.

Im going to vacc this morning and then get the cake made.. Lemon Meringue pie I might do the pastry and filling. but do the meringue part early tomorrow.

One of the smoke alarms was beeping. but now I have the heat pump on its stopped... dont think I've ever noticed if the temp can make a difference.

Ill also dig out another blanket...

Fanny sent me a photo of Mount Egmont late yesterday. She looks Magestic covered in snow.  Will always be my fave mountain.

Was talking to MrP's Nephew Son as we call him yesterday. He was feeling rather lonely. He had shingles In his eye.. he said along with the pain it means he cant stand light in it.. Has been thinking about pushing to get it taken out.  Its a big step but he's been thinking about it for a year.  he's like us.. If its not useful and is causing pain all the time get rid of it.
I told him to talk to the drs and specialists and see what they say.

He's only 7 years younger than me but really drew the short straw in his family for the health stuff. He will always be my Boy tho. And he used to call MrP Uncle Dad.

Every year I forget how the sun gets lower and starts to move patches of warm onto the foot of my bed. But the resident furperson doesn't. It's nice though, the heavyweight load suddenly ups itself from my lap and goes over to begin duty as a heat collector, and the blood flow returns to my knees in time for the second cup of tea making, and the Q&A episode.

My Madam has decided this year that being Under the blankets is warmer. 

Right on my chest with her nose uncovered.. Like me she obviously will never do the full cover up..

Madame le cat took up residence under the blankets once it got cold at night.

Just back from third eldest granddaughter's baby shower lunch; eldest grandaughter picked me up & dropped me off. She had it worked out with her partner for him to take their two boys out while we went to it so that worked out really well. It was at a Spanish place in town & absolutely lovely food.

Now home & exhausted - other people wear me out I think but lovely to see everyone.

Battery is replaced. I figured it was failing cos it didnt scream at me when I burnt my birthday cake..

I have offically wasted a whom jar of Nutella. 9 Minutes in a Just under 150 degree oven.. To say I was Miffed wiht a capital P and two ss's was an understatement.

Landlord and her other half came and changed the battery.. And she will phone a sparky tomorrow.

SOO arranged for landlords sister to cook the sausage rolls and Ill make a carrot cake instead... Still using the cream cheese as both cakes use it for the Frosting.

Then Di said use your glass bowl air cooker,, brilliant why didnt I think of that... COS I dont know where my brain is.. Well I do.. I was absolutey miffed about wasting ingredients and actually burning a cake..

And Ill give the lemon meringue pie a go in there. The pastry is made and in the fridge Ill be up early and get cooking.

Fanny has landed, and yep her room is already a mess.

Another friend who doesnt look around. Simply comes in and sits..

Will see how much they will cost her.  Cos it will be the call out fee, the thermostat and for him to replace it. It might be cheaper to buy a new oven. 

You can get induction ones for $800 now in the trade Depot.

Happy birthday, popeye.  I hope your birthday luncheon goes well and you all have loads of fun.  I have a sister-in-law that just sits while everyone does everything.  Now we find her things to do   And what really bugs me is she will sit at the head of the table at meal times even though it isn't her home. 

I suspect MrK has kidney stones, the pain, he said, is 15 out of 10.  A pretty good clue there. I didn't know about the free incontinence stuff; I'll ask our doctor about it on Wednesday.  We had the heat pump on last night for the first time this winter.

Another dash to the laundromat this morning and then later to Noel Leeming to buy the machine.  Fingers crossed it can be delivered quickly. 

The Furry One is under the blankets and made it very clear it was time for me to get up.  You don't dare turn over as he will move.  And paws kicking me in my back was a good hint he wanted my spot lol.

Our lot replace the entire thing if it is the thermostat, they are expensive apparently, but the replacement stoves aren't. I checked, mine was just over $400, no warming drawer, no lift up top for cleaning, and any element on heats the entire surface so it pays to beware. And, interestingly enough of the twelve units four have had kitchen fires due to the stoves being misused by idiot tenants, two serious, one of those the fatality. You'd think they'd get the message and put in more appropriate units even at a higher cost.

Gorgeous morning out there, but cool. I am starting the wardrobe swap over today, quite looking forward to the change, I have built up a nice collection of mad coloured Snags tights over the summer, including some highly inappropriate goth flavoured ones. They should raise eyebrows lol...

The ring thermostats may be faulty as well. They also will fail to full on heat with no regulation except to be able to turn OFF.

Ages ago (30 years) they cost about $50 each and there is labour time cost on top of that from a registered electrician.

A very sad event happened to a member of my family centered around a stove in a granny flat connected to my parents house, not caused directly by the thermostats being faulty but by actions taken because they were not working properly but no one realized that; Great Aunt Ediths (96 years old) seeming inability to boil an egg without boiling the pot dry was not due to oncoming failing mental abilities and/or her age, but that the heating rings were always on high because the thermostats were faulty.

When my mother and father went on holiday to the North Island from Chch they were so worried about her burning the place down as a possibility whilst she was on her own that they moved her into permanent hospital care where she eventually died quite quickly, she said to me it was so noisy there, and she was right. When I went to visit her she begged me to move her back to our home but I didn't know about the stove thermostat faults then, thought Mum knew what she was talking about, it was only later when I moved into the vacant flat I realized what had happened. As an aside, I could always smell 4711 perfume on hot days even years later.

I never told Mum, she would have been so upset, she was always a worry wart.

Quite a horrible story really, unexpected and unbidden.

If anyone is interested it is the heating coil on a bi-metallic strip that fails and causes this fault of the thermostat to not control the heat by altering the time duty cycle.

Hope you get your cooker woes sorted Popeye not good while you have visitors. Induction tops are great but there might be extra cost to ensure the electricals can support the extra amperage.

Have apointment for skin check today and need to return couple merino tops my clicky fingers bought. Nice tops but so short.  Also long wait for dental appointment 3 weeks!  On the cancellation list  but still might explore seeking service else where.

Nice dinner last night with DD family DGD1 did turn up with her togs so we spent an hour at the pool leaving DH at house to supervise his BBQ. DH had made a lovely banana cake he used my last packet of Bakels gluten free self raising flour in my opinion it gives really good results but at $12 odd packet it is too pricey.

Going to drop DH off at DD house shortly he does their gardens andcgrooms their big ?.

When my mother and father went on holiday to the North Island from Chch they were so worried about her burning the place down as a possibility whilst she was on her own that they moved her into permanent hospital care where she eventually died quite quickly, she said to me it was so noisy there, and she was right.  When I went  to visit her she begged me to move her back to our home but I didn't know about the stove thermostat faults then, thought Mum knew what she was talking about, it was only later when I moved into the vacant flat I realized what had happened.  As an aside, I could always smell 4711 perfume on hot days even years later.

I never told Mum, she would have been so upset, she was always a worry wart.

Quite a horrible story really, unexpected and unbidden.

If anyone is interested it is the heating coil on a bi-metallic strip that fails and causes this fault of the thermostat to not control the heat by altering the time duty cycle.

I think that was the right thing, not to tell your mum - she'd have felt terrible, anyone would despite it not being their fault.


I vaguely remember reading somewhere that if an older person has to move away from their home, they very often die within a cou[le of years.

Yes Mum is long gone now as well. I think about poor Edith quite a lot and think I should have done more to get her back home. She was my Grandfather's sister, they both came from Manchester to Christchurch in the early seventies I think.

Mum was certain that Edith was losing her marbles and it was only much later when I was using the stove that I realized the faulty thermostats causing the incorrect judgement of Edith's state of mind and what had really happened.

It was months rather than years for her death, the hospital was St George's Hospital up Papanui Road, it's been replaced with new buildings now.

The flat that Edith was in was so quiet and secluded with large trees and lots of birdsong from next door, the Hospital was just so noisy, no wonder she hated it.

When next door was eventually populated with houses from Twizel four houses were put on that land it was like a small forest in the middle of suburbia, there's another place, much bigger but very similar, down the same road and river but on the other side, remnants of when Christchurch was not built up. It's a lovely place for people to get old in but the earthquakes trashed our place so I had to move to Woolston where I am now.

Spoilt rotten... So much fun.. Lots of laughs.. So much so that none of us thought about taking photos. But I will remember it forever.

Gayle and Erin started doing the dishes, then in the middle they stopped and said Change over, so Fanny ended up having to wash while Dianne dried lol.. Sooo Classically done.. Ive never know her to do dishes lol.

And no Im not opening my Queen Anne chocolate fish until After Fanny leaves lol.

We were in the middle of sort of slagging off rest home David and he rang.. It was like ESP.. The room went silent lol.. But it was loud when I finished talking to him..

It was like a witches Coven lol.. but he is such an egg at time he's very easy to make fun of lol.

But I have invited him around tomorrow afternoon for Cake.
