US tariffs
#1
Sounds like US residents will be getting a rude shock in the coming days as the "de minimis exemption" ceases. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/newslette...fs-kick-in

I heard something on the radio yesterday about the tariffs affecting any parcels we send to the united states, whats up with that?
From what i understand none of them will get to their destination.

You can't post to the US at the moment. Letters are okay, but no parcels since the duty free minimum size thing has been canceled...

So they are not even being held by customs over there to await payment for duty, etc?
Thats just nuts.

We've had similar delays on incoming shipments to NZ in the past where the shipping company (DHL) held a consignment until Customs had been paid on it. Lots of faffing around results in order to provide invoices, process payment and get the item cleared. Understandable for medium value items but imagine how much storage area would be required if this demand was made for every last Temu, Amazon, Etsy, etc item.

This is probably the potential problem our government envisaged which prompted them to put the $1,000 threshold on incoming items before GST was payable. It looks like Trump and co didn't put that much thought into their tariff actions.

The first mistake was thinking Trump and thought has any connection whatsoever.

Some are saying he is showing signs of dementia... especially with the way he goes off on rambling tangents and makes up things.

Like how he said Putin was a great man for leading Russia to victory in WWII.... ummm... what?

Yes, that wouldn't surprise me, he does tend to waffle on about random stuff - apparently all fine with his party but I do wonder what may happen when/if he worsens rapidly.
What they could possibly do might be to come clean about his condition & oblige him to step down with the next in line taking over - Vance.

Not a happy prospect. Sad

It's not even just waffling, it's just blatantly incorrect.
For example, Putin was physically incapable of doing anything in WWII because he wasn't even born yet!

And that's only the tip of the iceberg of the mountain of lies that Trump spews forth on a daily basis.

And yeah. Trump or Vance? Neither of them are a happy prospect.
