Morning everyone
Wow we had an impressive wake up call this morning.. Thunder... Sooo much louder under a tin roof. Missy Flew.. And it turned a touch lamp on with the next clap.. I dont actually use that one so I might unplug it. Its just to even up the look lol
I decided to skip the garage sale cos it was soo wet.. Now its sunny of course. lol
I get lazy when stressed.. although when I used to mow my lawn I would take my stress out there. How is the furry one with MrK not being home KM?
Ill go and do the shopping this morning.. Cross all ya fingers that its fine when I load the car at the shop. and at home, although it will come through the window, but the boot will still get rain probably... The bathroom window is wet again, on the inside.
Ive decided to put my name back on the Kianga Ora list again.. I love this house but I dont wish to be standing in the shower when the wall falls off. And the landlord isnt concerned about it.
Have fab day everyone

The callas sound lovely, OHH
The baby's blanket sounds very cute, mica. The lucky baby to have that
I have heard of left paw dogs and cats None of ours have every been which has miffed this leftie a tad I have started turning notebooks upside down to write in them, so I am writing from the edge of the page to the center. I have no idea why I haven't done this before, it's a gamechanger.
The Furry One is missing his dad and every now and then goes to look for him. I had him in the car when MrK phoned (hands free in the car) and the Furry One was listening to his voice and I could see he was wondering where MrK was. MrK is missing him like crazy too so I might ask if I could take the Furry One in with me one day. The trouble is, there is a gorgeous rest home cat who resides there.
The kitchen has been spring cleaned, even the windows are done. Only the fridge to clean when I get home later. The rest of the house will be done over the next few days.

Funny thing about notebooks... there was a recipe on farcebook I wanted to try and so I needed to write it down fast. Opened the drawer in the bedside and pulled out a little forgotten notebook to do just that. Turns out that notebook is half filled with writing from twenty years ago that I put down each night before sleep, as I traveled through Penn state and New York. It was weird in a way, reading those words after all these years.
Life is such an adventure. We just do not know what is coming up ahead.

It might be worth asking the nursing home, KM. They could perhaps keep the resident cat confined until after the furry one visits & it might help both Mr K & the furry one.
Tipping down here so we did the very short rainy day walk, & once back i decided to have another foray into the workroom since I couldn't do anything in the garden. Not very enthused at the prospect, but in I went. Have been doing one or two pastels lately & need to put them away somewhere but can't until I venture down to The drawing Room for some acid free tissue paper.
But while I was in there something made me look in a box I haven't sorted yet, & lo & behold, there was the diploma I'd been hunting for for several months. So that's now put away with the others. No clue how it got in there, but it was clearly labelled.
in order to be old & wise, you must first be young & stupid. (I'm still working on that.)

Hi Popeye
If you have louvres that are draughty or leaking water then your house isn't healthy homes compliant. It's not about whether the landlord cares, but whether you do. The wall will take a long time to be at risk of falling off, but your power consumption on using your bathroom fan all the time to keep mould at bay could become annoying and isn't necessary. If the landlord doesn't respond to a direct request to fix the problem then your next course of action is a 14 day notice. Of course that runs the risk of your relationship with the landlord becoming less friendly, but they are supposed to be providing you with a safe dry home. If you keep your communication professional then hopefully they will too. All the info you need is at https://www.tenancy.govt.nz.

Thanks Sue,
She has said that I will get a new window but it wont be until next year... Its wet again on the shelf of the window this morning.
That reminds me I need to bung something in the gap by the vanity too I can be sitting on the loo watching the towel move in the wind.
She did the healthy home thing and said it had passed.. Would there have to be paper work on that?
Ohh love it Hunnie will look it up soon.
Did the groceries. Decided Ill go to the garage sale next year. Cant afford to get sick at the mo, my surgery comes first.
Did get my groceries so that's done. I've been buying extras so when I cant drive I wont have to rely on others.
KM our home had 3 cats but they had a "care" dog I suppose you would call her. She was a golden retriever, Shanti her name was. Maybe there is a room where you could be with the furry one safe and sound.
Funny cos as I was leaving this morning there was a lady walking two retrievers passed, which were beautiful and reminded me of Shanti.
They told me I couldn't, so I did.!!

There would have been a compliance statement in your tenancy agreement when you moved in. It would have covered the relevant requirements at that time. For a complete statement now, you have only to ask the landlord for it. The formal Tenancy Services one is about 15 pages but it says it is OK for the landlord to provide the same information in their own signed statement if they wish.
For the issues with your window, it's reasonable that the landlord didn't know there were leaks or draughts until they are told, but having been told they do need to sort it out for you. There is a risk of course that the water is coming from somewhere other than directly around the window panes. If that's the case, investigation and remedy can be very complex. But the window does sound like the likely culprit, and definitely where to start looking.
There's a short summarised list of healthy homes requirements at this page https://www.tenancy.govt.nz/healthy-home...checklist/ and from there you can navigate your way to the full explanations.

morning ladies We have another wet day. Not that it bothers me at the moment as I will be with MrK for most of the day.
SueDonim, I don't rent but would like to say 'thank you' for the information you have given on this thread about renter's rights. It's concise and clear and I'm sure there are others who post or don't, who will find this information helpful. So, thank you We sure have a variety of people here with lots of interesting backgrounds.
MrK would eventually like to come home, and I would love him to be able to do this. In our talks yesterday, we mapped out a rough plan for him to do this. In my heart of hearts, I know the chances of him coming home are very slim. But, he felt we needed to have something said and a rough plan. Today, I'll try and steer the conversation to what-if-you-can't-we-need-a-plan-B. If he can't come home, I'll need our GP's help to tell him. I also need to ask the head nurse to change his meal size to 'small' as he can't eat everything served to him. The medium sized meal is huge. The other day for lunch he had two big pieces of roast beef, potatoes, pumpkin and peas with peaches for pudding. For dinner he had a bread roll filled with pulled meat and salad goodies and steamed pud. No complaints about the food at all. And the staff are lovely and very respectful. Even the young guy doing the vacuming was so respectful of us both yesterday.
The kitchen is almost squeaky clean. Only the fridge to clean and the ceiling. I'll do the ceiling once I have a new sponge for the mop. The fridge won't take long to do as it is a regular thing anyway. It's good to be kept busy and I might as well make the most of the wet days as when this rain stops, I'll be back to weeding again.
My Westerland rose is dying along with one of the new roses I planted I have no idea why, there is no sign of disease that I can see. I'll dig it out in case it has root gall in which case, it needs to go, and I won't be able to plant another rose there for quite some time.
Washing machine is finished and so is my coffee.
Have a good one!

We've had disappointments with Westerland. The first one flowered beautifully early in the season in its first year, then the stems got progressively weaker then broke, and the flowers sparser, It started to die back so badly that we pulled it out. The second one was planted on a sunny fence last season; it flowered a bit on long leggy stems but only at the tips. This season it is sprouting only on the highest part of the stems, with the bottom metre or so showing nothing. We'll give it a few more months then review its future. Our other roses are sprouting madly this year, with some (Compassion and Sally Holmes and Cecile Brunner) forming flower heads already. Maybe Westerland doesn't enjoy the very rich soil here; most roses adore it.

Morning everyone
And thank you Sue.. I will be looking into it all The trouble with moving is you quickly put the tenancy agreement somewhere safe and then have trouble finding it.. I certainly didn't see a wad of papers. It could be in one set of drawers that used to sit beside my chair so I will look for that in the coming days.
It is nice having things explained properly. Sue would I be able to contact the healthy home people without my landlord knowing?
The sun is out, so Missy is shooting the rays in the bedroom. I've got washing on which can go outside yay. We woke late but it was a lateish night watching the cricket.
Housework today here too since Ive had two busy weeks.
Sounds like the home MrK is in, is a good one KM.. Funny you should mention the young man vacuuming. One of the two at the first home MrP was in was lovely. The second would say hello but not much else. She worked without taking home her wages. They saved them for her and she used them to go to Australia once a year to see family.
Have a fab day everyone.

The Westerland I was married beneath was in Taupo, planted in pumice rich but otherwise poor soil, which we mulched each year with homemade compost but very little else. It was a huge old rose that had colonised a decent area of pergola, and had been 'trimmed' back on occasion rather than properly pruned - so I suspect you might be right. Treat it rough and see if that helps, lol.
I winter pruned an old fashioned rambling rose I brought here from a roadside flower cutting that grew roots in the vase on my desk, it is another one that responds to harsh treatment. I noticed yesterday how thick and healthy the spring growth is, and I have hopes for masses of flower this year. Mutabilis also got a severe winter haircut and has buds all over her new stems with lovely tender new red leaves. I shall reward her with new mulch this year, she has earned it.
The arborist has been and tidied up the feijoa hedge on my northern boundary, and it is a joy to look out there at the perfect squared off edges with the wild foliage of first broadleafed natives and then the horrible bamboo behind it, the contrast is just plain lovely.

Check out the Tenancy Services website popeye, it's part of MBIE, and yes you can speak to them for advice without them doing anything unless you want them too. I did when I had a very dodgy landlord and took her to court, they were very helpful all the way through.

Hard cos the Landlord is my best friends little sister... But I just had another thought too, I know someone else who lived in this house and Ill contact her and ask if the window was letting the rain in back then too.. and its years since she was in here.

Thanks for the Westerland advice Hunni. We had a huge Mutabilis when we were in Auckland - in one season it grew into a very decorative beast that was a nightmare to control. We haven't planted one here as I suspect it would rapidly take over the entire yard.

Thanks for the info about Westerland. I now suspect she just isn't happy in the garden At least it won't be the dreaded root gall.
Boy they have all the fancy equipment at the rest home. Amazing how easy it was for MrK to have a shower. Right tools for the job as MrK would say.
I have put a 'Tree of Life' design onto fabric for a 'take-away' stitching project, it's not centered properly but that's OK. I'll sort that out when or if it comes to framing. It's an old design from my mother-in-law's stash of patterns probably dating back to the 1980's or '90s. I thought something lively to stitch would be nice.

morning ladies And we have another wet day...
Back to the rest home for me this morning. Our doctor is doing daily visits Monday - Saturday (I thought it was only during the working week) and this morning I would like to catch her as we both have more questions. The Furry One is still sleeping, I think he is becoming used to it being him and me. Yesterday someone bought two little dogs into the rest home. When I asked the head nurse if the Furry One could join the party, she said oh yess! We often have pets bought in and the residents love it. They have even had one resident have his dog sleep on his bed overnight. And someone bought a goat in, but she said, no more goats lol. They poop everywhere lol. I think I will take the Furry One in, on a quiet day when we don't have too many questions for our GP.
I put this on my FB page, but I think it is important to spread the word elsewhere as well. Did you know, our nurses have not received their 3% pay rise they bargained for three years ago? And their pay offer this time round is 0.01%? We only found out after I thanked a nurse for her care with MrK after his recent Waikato Hospital stay. She had tears in her eyes as she said they don't hear that very often and then asked if we knew about their pay. We were shocked and horrified and so were the other patients in the ward. She said they have been told not to go to the media about it, so the public has either no idea or very little idea. I said to her, well, you might not be able to say anything, but we can, so I flicked an email off to Stuff. It's probably sitting in someone's in box, but I do hope it is read, and someone picks up the mantle for the nurses. My thoughts are eventually the nurses will have to be paid and that will be one almighty back pay which no doubt our Literary Genius of a Finance Minister will blame the nurses (anyone but herself and the government) for. And my next thought was, what a blo*** insult offering 0.01%. Our nurses work so hard under trying conditions - think abusive drunks, addicts, people in constant pain, worried families, hospitals in need of repair or replacement, and so on. My sister-in-law who is a retired nurse asked a nursing friend about the wage issue, and she was told exactly the same thing. So, can we please advocate for the nurses, speak up, demand they receive, their promised pay increase. This nurse told us she doesn't expect to ever see it and fears she will be working for the same wage for the rest of her career. It adds an extra burden and stress on our nurses when it doesn't have to be. No wonder they are leaving in droves to Aussie. Sorry about the rant, but it infuriates me that governments do not respect our nurses enough to pay them the agreed increase. Any other employer would be taken to court. Maybe that is happening in the background, who knows. In the meantime, I for one will be speaking out as often as I can. Just thought you should know.
Better get moving, this morning I'm cleaning out the freezer. It's bin day tomorrow so a good time to bin anything that is beyond eating. Next fine day it will be the BBQ being given a good going over.
Have a good one!

Overcast a pause in the rain
OMG didn't realise that about nurses pay KM thats so wrong and disingenuous and fascial pay offer. Whats wrong with the media not reporting . I am a bit skeptical re media as they rarely report a balanced view usually one sided to make it seem like we are doomed.
Good that you can take the Furry one to visit and that bed snuggles are allowed it will be good for MrK and the k9.
Been to gym shower next might do a bit more quiltingnthis morning have a meeting this afternoon.
The rose in out back yard is looking sad the new leaves look OK but the fully formed leaves look droopy and slightly curled. Will get the gardeners to take a look.
Enjoy your day
