This makes for depressing reading. The damage that Luxon and his coalition are inflicting on us will take years of work to rectify, and if they get their way in relaxing laws on environmental release of GMOs the damage may well be irreversible.

Yes, disgracefully, these greeders are happy to put profit ahead of what amounts to the future welfare of their children & grandchildren, as well as everyone else's.
Just as long as the farmers & other donors are happy, they don't appear to mind at all. And obviously, any problems are entirely the fault of the previous govt...
Its OK to kill Kiwi, as long as its an 'accident' Its fine to pollute one of the most beautiful springs, Waikoropupu springs & perfectly fine if people living in Ashburton can't drink the water - that's all good as long as their donors are happy.
Its difficult to find any other word to describe them apart from evil.
I hold this govt responsible for my many failed attempts to give up swearing...
The only consolation is that with all of their wilful damage to our environment,& their having kicked women in the teeth by stopping pay equity, they'll almost certainly be a one term govt
And heaven help the next govt...

If you were a woman, or a man with a good relationship with one you wouldn't be taking this position.
We see through different eyes, different life experiences.
I read just recently a meme that suggested one of a man's greatest fears is being laughed at by a woman. Whereas for a woman, her greatest fear is being harmed by a man.
As for equity, we wish...

I think that unless we somehow manage to get a remarkable govt, it could take decades given the damage done by Neo Liberalism.

You do make me laugh at times. And sometimes your timing in that respect is just perfect.
Sometimes.

To get back to your original point though, I don't see too many governments around the world doing what needs to be done, unless they are some of those most threatened by the oncoming disaster. Maybe that is what it takes.
In our case though we have has flooding that clearly shows us what is in our future, in the provinces, and in our biggest city. And yet are they doing anything real?
Are they 'eck...

Are they 'eck... The problem I think is that politicians, and many voters, are too focussed on short term issues which may effect their bank balances. Once the reality of environmental issues starts impacting on their lives their attention shifts but for issues that have been many decades in the making that is woefully too late.
The really concerning side of this is the effects of that non-action on coming generations. I really do worry about the world our kids and grandkids will be experiencing in their lifetimes and the accusations they will rightly level at the inaction of those generations that preceded them.

The right wing are poison through and through, the women are just as bad as the men, look at Ruth Richardson and Jenny Shipley for instance.

It seems that those people who are very, very wealthy don't actually care about the future of our planet. Either none of them have kids or grandkids, or they're unconcerned about their futures.

They are stupid people focused on gathering money, they aren't looking that far ahead, somehow even though they are definitely not Christian in their values they act as if a benevolent God is taking care of the world and its future in general no matter how badly humans are treating the eco-system etc.
They are both stupid and crazy and ignorant.

I can't really disagree with that.
I think they may either not comprehend what is now extremely likely to happen to our world unless we change what we're doing, or they thinkl they'll somehow survive it all in their bolt holes.
