Bye B....

Firearms she took the easy option and went after law abiding and legally licenced owners only and not any of the illegally owned guns used almost weekly by the gangs and remember it was the police who failed all of the law by not following the laws guidelines when issuing a certain nutter with a licence.

She also kept the borders open until after her photo opportunity so letting Covid get a toehold.

Those who know me from the other pub know that I'm usually a Labour supporter but she failed to impress me with anything she did apart from all the hugs and photo ops she did those real well and failed at just about everything else. How can you lead a country when you have never had a real job and so have no life experience to call on?

What's the profit on your lambs - after all the months of expenses that go into growing them? Probably less than the supermarket makes for some transport costs and a butcher to cut up and package over just a few days.

You are right about the firearms. Whatever happens - make it harder for law abiding people and the voters will pat you on the back for "doing something". Too bad that our problems are caused by uncontrolled crime because the money the could go on catching criminals early in their lives and sending them in a new direction gets spent on admin for gun licensing. And they're planning to do a whole lot more of that in the future. Hopefully National will move us back to a more sensible balance. And you are dead right - the police didn't follow the law in that instance but millions were spent "doing something" that was totally irrelevant.

The early days of Covid showed how things should be done. Assess the problem, seek advice from people who know about it then formulate a plan that does the best it can to answer everyone's needs. Too bad that it all fell to bits when the borders starting re-opening and there was no coordination between airlines and MIQ (why wasn't it simply a bed in MIQ for every person booked on a flight in?). We waited far too long for the vaccine to be available. The traffic light system was disbanded just as it was most needed. The whole point was to have tighter controls in places where hospitals and the health system were overwhelmed but that never happened, and just as the hospitals were most overwhelmed the whole system got dropped. And masks are no longer required at the supermarkets, etc, so everyone now gets Covid whether they want to or not - assuming that the few others like me wearing a mask prefer to stay well.

The half-hearted management of Covid was about the best of what Labour has done. The processes followed at the beginning are how EVERY decision should be made. But no, advice from experts is ignored and those in power but without any knowledge of what they are doing, and very often with few life skills, push ahead anyway. Everything else they have done has put prices up, created housing shortages, increased crime, made cost of living more expensive, and so on. One of the next things to happen is the next round of rules for new house builds is forecast to increase joinery costs by 30% just for compliance.

I hope Labour gets a good new leader, but do also hope that they don't win the election. It will take National ages to get us back on track again - as always happens they make unpopular decisions out of necessity and then get criticised and voted out. I'm old enough to see the cycle, and old enough to see that the tit for tat of always blaming the previous government is usually weighted on the side of National's unpopularity for doing what's needed to fix Labour's cockups.

it is ok, no-one is trying to do that...

Yes, that is exactly what they are trying to do. Clubs are now suffering because of the cost and complexity of new laws, supposedly to make things "safer" in a sport that has always been pretty much the safest sport there is. There is almost no accident data for target shooting because there are almost no accidents. So why spend money on admin that clubs can't afford when there are more dangerous things to deal with? Hunting accidents do happen and are expensive individually, but are also very few and far between in relation to the numbers of people out there doing it.
