Because that is how capitalism works. It is a giant pyramid scheme that relies on a broad base of those very same heavily exploited low income workers and tax payers. Its othering really; & once you manage to 'other' any group it becomes possible to treat them in all sorts of quite nasty ways. As we really should know from history.
