I had orthodontic work done as a child in the 50s, and my parents paid for every bit of it. My Mum got a second job to pay the bills.

I'm sure if they paid for it, my mother would've never let me forget it.

Mind you, after she died (19 years ago) the things she didn't tell me have been very enlightening...she could keep a secret my Mum.
