Luxon's inexperience costs him international power play
#19
The press are clearly unhappy. Having the three leaders maintaining an appropriate silence until there is something to announce is clearly driving them nuts. Luxon has handled everything pretty well - saying nothing without being rude. Good on him and shame on the reporters that keep pushing pushing pushing. Peters is being Peters - happy to tell them to piss off. Good on him and shame on the reporters that keep pushing pushing pushing. Seymour is showing his inexperience by being less keen to say "No" and is less polished in his answers. Not quite so "good on him" but still shame on the reporters that keep pushing pushing pushing.

Overall it is being slower than anyone would like, but as Luxon keeps saying, the important thing is to get it right. He showed his ability to prioritse appropriately by not going to APEC. Everyone, including (especially) the press needs to remember that the parties are not just the three leaders and it does seem that everyone who should be involved is being included as the discussions happen. Yes, it's slow, but far better to arrive at the right result step by step than rush it all through and have problems later. That's what Labour has done in the last 6 years of legislation and look at the mess we have, including the hold up we had with the vote counting because of all the election day enrollments. A change that should have been properly thought through but wasn't.
